Kinara Spa’s New Treatments

These sound particularly yummy to BeansTalk. Of course we are complete massage addicts (and pride ourselves on being somewhat experts). At any rate, we’re looking forward to trying , at least some of, these.

Kinara Spa has made additions to their spa menu – creating a more relaxing and memorable spa experience.

LOMI LOMI HOT STONE THERAPY
Whether it’s daily stress or an imbalanced rest schedule, melt away stresses with the soothing warmth of heated, river-worn basalt stones. The stones are heated to an ideal temperature and bring you to a profound state of relaxation through specific placement and Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage characterized by deep, long, rhythmic strokes. Ancient therapeutic benefits are further enhanced through the use of organic virgin coconut oil, a natural exfoliant and moisturizer. This is Kinara’s most relaxing massage, unlike any hot stone treatment. Fifty Minutes $150, Seventy-Five Minutes $200

KINARA SIGNATURE LYMPHATIC TREATMENT
This thermal body wrap is unlike anything else you have experienced. This treatment nourishes and stimulates the lymphatic system promoting drainage, essential to good health. The use of castor oil, an ancient detoxifying remedy for a multitude of ailments from colds to cellulite also boosts the immune system and alleviates muscle tension. The treatment begins with dry brushing and ends with a deeply penetrating full-body massage. Recommended series of four weekly treatments. Seventy-Five Minutes $200

BODY BOOT CAMP BY KINARA
From combating chronic dull aches and pains of previous injuries through intense massage techniques or looking to detoxify and rejuvenate this Body Boot Camp means serious business. Restructuring the body takes more than one session, it takes a total commitment to your health. To completely transform your well-being, it is necessary to treat the whole body and Kinara has not overlooked those conscious of their skin. Through working with a personal therapist on a custom-tailored program, selecting from Kinara’s menu of body treatments to create a 10-week intense series, you will renew the mind, body and spirit. 10 Treatments: Seventy-Five Minutes Each $1700

FOOT THERAPY
It may be for the latest Manolo’s or your favorite weekend flip-flops, either way, your feet need as much care as the rest of your body (and should look as good too). Feet are the home of thousands of nerve endings, called reflexes, corresponding to each and every organ in your body – our most overlooked limb. This deeply relaxing treatment utilizes hot stones placed on strategic relaxation points and are then incorporated into therapeutic massage. Twenty Five Minutes $70

SCALP MASSAGE
Like the body, the scalp also benefits from regular massage, and is just an enjoyable. In this treatment, essential oil blends are selected specifically for you and incorporated with massage to stimulate blood flow, relieve headaches, and boost healthy hair growth. The perfect addition to any massage. Twenty Five Minutes $70

DEEP RESTRUCTURING HAIR TREATMENT
This customized four-step process restores your hair to its optimum condition. Ingredients like Ceremide-2, Protein Amino Acids, Lipids and Sugar Esters are strategically utilized to even hair’s surface, lock and hold moisture adding elasticity, softness and flexibility to even the most difficult hair types. Every hair type can benefit from this deeply rejuvenating treatment – Fine, tangled hair becomes silky and smooth; unruly hair becomes flexible and shiny; course, rough hair becomes soft and manageable. The reparative ingredients are further penetrated utilizing our state of the art Volcano micro-mist system. This is the perfect solution for damaged hair, and is especially ideal for over-processed, sun-exposed and color-treated hair. Includes a four-week home treatment kit. Price: $85

TNT’s TV Premiere of Kill Bill

Vol. 1 Premieres Friday, Sept. 15, at 8 p.m. (ET/PT);
Vol. 2 Premieres Saturday, Sept. 16, at 8 p.m. (ET/PT)

Part kung-fu revenge drama, part spaghetti western, part samurai film, part exploitation pic: Quentin Tarantino’s stylistic, no-holds-barred, genre-blending pastiche – Kill Bill – will make its network television premiere on TNT this September. The two-part dramatic thriller stars Uma Thurman and features Viveca A. Fox, Lucy Liu, Michael Madsen and Daryl Hannah, with David Carradine giving a critically acclaimed performance in the title role. The action-packed story of revenge will kick off Friday, Sept. 15, at 8 p.m. (ET/PT) with 2003’s Kill Bill Vol. 1, followed Saturday, Sept. 16, at 8 p.m. (ET/PT) by 2004’s Kill Bill Vol. 2.

Kill Bill tells the story of The Bride, (Thurman) a woman whose fiancé and wedding party are brutally murdered by her former associates, members of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad (Fox, Liu, Madsen and Hannah). Seeking revenge, she hunts them down, one by one, before finally confronting their notorious leader, Bill (Carradine), who also happens to be her former lover.

In Kill Bill, Tarantino (seen in image right with Thurman) pays homage to “grindhouse cinema,” a variety of genres made popular when they played in rundown movie houses in the 1960s and ‘70s. The genres generally associated with grindhouse cinema include poorly dubbed kung-fu films from Hong Kong, samurai films and anime from Japan, spaghetti westerns and splatter horror films from Italy and blaxploitation films from the United States, to name a few. Tarantino honors each of these genres and references or borrows from well over 100 movies, including such disparate titles as Once Upon a Time in the West, Citizen Kane, Black Sunday, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Yojimbo. His main story, however, is based primarily on the Japanese Lady Snowblood movies and Francois Truffaut’s French thriller The Bride Wore Black.

Kill Bill was originally intended to be one epic film, but Tarantino and the executives at Miramax, which produced and released the film, decided to break it up into two separate volumes, which was more in keeping with the brevity and multi-part stories inherent in many grindhouse films. Also, as with other Tarantino films, the Kill Bill movies are broken down into separate chapters, some of which are shown out of order.

The Kill Bill movies are packed with actors who have made names for themselves in the genres Tarantino is celebrating: kung-fu film star Gordon Liu Chia-hui, who plays dual roles as Johnny Mo, a bloodthirsty henchman, and Pai-Mei, an extremely demanding kung-fu teacher; Japanese legend Sonny Chiba, who plays Hattori Hanzo, a famous swordsman who has vowed to never make another instrument of death (Chiba also provided Kill Bill’s kenjitsu swordplay choreography; Michael Parks, who plays dual roles as the Texas sheriff investigating the crime against The Bride and as an old acquaintance of Bill’s who helps The Bride track him down; and Bo Svenson as a hapless minister. Other notable roles in the movie include Julie Dreyfus as a trilingual aid; Chiaki Kuriyama as a teenage girl with a vicious mean-streak; James Parks (Michael Parks’ son) as the sheriff’s not-too-bright son; Jun Kunimura as a hot-headed member of the yakuza; and, in an unbilled role, Samuel L. Jackson as a church organist.

In addition to the phenomenal talent appearing on-screen, Tarantino has also collected an impressive roster behind the camera, including kung-fu fight choreographer Yuen Wo Ping, whose work on Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and the Matrix films has catapulted him to the top of his field; cinematographer Robert Richardson, who won Oscars® for his work on JFK and The Aviator; music by film director Robert Rodriguez and the Wu-Tang Clan’s the RZA; and an astonishing animated sequence by Production I.G., Japan’s leading anime studio.

TNT will present an encore of Kill Bill Vol. 1 Friday, Sept. 15, at 10:10 p.m. and an encore of Kill Bill Vol. 2 Saturday, Sept. 16, at 10:40 p.m. The two volumes will be shown back-to-back Sunday, Sept. 17, at 7 and 9:10 p.m., respectively; Thursday, Sept. 21, at 9 and 11:10 p.m.; and Sunday, Sept. 24, at 5 and 7:15 p.m. Both volumes will carry a TV-14 content rating for suggestive dialogue, language and violence.

Bullock in Stephen Webster

Sandra Bullock wore a cuff by Stephen Webster to the premiere of her film, The Lake House, in Tokyo this weekend. Bullock chose a piece from Webster’s “Borneo” Collection to complete her look. The white gold cuff features diamonds set in the distinctively arching “Borneo” pattern that is a signature of the collection ($15,200). Bullock first saw the cuff two weeks ago at Teen Choice Awards in Los Angeles where she wore the black sapphire version, also set in white gold; $8,100.

BREAKING NEWS

Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin Dies

Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin died Monday. He was a huge favorite of BeansTalk’s chairman of the board, who got to meet Irwin at the premiere of 2002’s “Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course” at Hollywood’s Cinerama Dome. BeansTalk also attended the party, which featured many of Irwin’s beloved wildlife (he was even photographed with one of Irwin's crocs). Irwin has two children, Bindi Sue, 8 and Bob, 3.

Discovery Channel sent out a release. The following is from that release:

To honor Steve and the enormous contribution he made to the world and to our company, Discovery Channel will rename the garden space in front of Discovery's world headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland, the "Steve Irwin Memorial Garden."

DCI is planning to create the Steve Irwin Crocodile Hunter Fund, which it expects to affectionately call "The Crikey Fund." The Fund will be established to honor Steve's passion and exuberance for conservation and the animal kingdom and is expected to provide a way for people from across the globe to make contributions in Steve's honor to support wildlife protection, education and conservation. The Fund will provide support to Steve's Australia Zoo in Beewah, Australia, as well as educational support for his children, Bindi and Bob Irwin.

Steve Irwin was the world’s best-known wildlife crusader. As the Crocodile Hunter, Steve became a household name, and his television adventures have been seen around the globe. In 2002, he starred in the feature film, The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course and appeared on numerous popular television talk shows. Throughout his high international profile, Steve's commitment to wildlife always remained paramount.

His passion to protect the world's most endangered and threatened species could be traced back to his parents, conservationists and animal lovers Bob and Lyn Irwin, the founders of Australia Zoo. As a young boy, Steve helped Bob rescue and relocate crocodiles in the rivers of North Queensland. The father-and-son team was proud to say that over 100 crocodiles living at Australia Zoo were either caught by them or bred and raised in the zoo.

In his 20s, Steve volunteered his services to the Queensland government's rogue crocodile relocation program, living alone for years in the mosquito-infested creeks, rivers and mangroves of North Queensland.

In 1992, Steve and his friend, television producer John Stainton, created a distinctive new style of wildlife documentary. That one-hour program, The Crocodile Hunter, featured Steve, his new wife, American wildlife caretaker Terri Raines, and the animals of Far North Queensland. Steve's boisterous charm, unconventional style and extraordinary daring, combined with Terri's wit and composure in dangerous situations and their amazingly close encounters with such potentially deadly creatures as crocodiles, venomous snakes and spiders, made The Crocodile Hunter a worldwide hit.

In addition to The Crocodile Hunter series, Steve and Terri filmed 53 episodes of the Emmy Award-nominated Croc Files, The Crocodile Hunter Diaries, a behind-the-scenes look at Steve's daily life at Australia Zoo, and New Breed Vets, a series highlighting the cutting-edge veterinarian science.

As testimony to their commitment to conservation and the environment, Steve and Terri purchased over 60,000 acres of wildlife-sensitive land and worked the rehabilitation and breeding of some of the world's most endangered animals. At Australia Zoo, they established a breeding program to help such endangered species as the southern cassowary, koala, giant land tortoise, Fijian crested iguana and Komodo dragon, to name just a few. The zoo, a dedicated conservation area covering over 250 acres, earned Australia's most prestigious tourism award as "Major Tourist Attraction" for 2003. Steve was recently awarded the title "2004 Queensland Australian of the Year."

Lingerie Source: Jacalyn Bennett

While our associate editor was tending to other activities at the Showtime Emmy Gift House, we wandered over to the Jacalyn Bennett booth. Bennett started nearly 25 years ago doing private labels for other major brands, and, like Donna Karan before her, decided to launch her own brand and line. She had previously produced Frederick’s of Hollywood, among other recognizable brands. Bennett has more than 30 years experience in the apparel industry and won the Outstanding Alumni Award from the Fashion Institute of Technology

Laid out in the booth were some beautiful silk lingerie pieces, including richly colorful and elaborate corsets, bustiers, slips and camisoles. Pretty! Each of Bennett’s pieces are handmade.

Bennett’s design, technical and production staff work from her offices based in the USA, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong and China. All aspects of the production process including the construction specifications and quality standards during the cutting, sewing, finishing and packing process are monitored daily.

We loved looking at the lingerie, but our favorite thing was the beautiful vinyl-covered toile beach/tote bag we were given (and have carried to our staff/day job). The company’s information is cleverly embroidered onto a ribbon that runs along in the inside of the bag. There’s a great feature – a zippered pocket in which you can put things you want to keep dry while you put (in our case) your ice-filled thermos jug or your wet swimsuits (for the chairman of the board).

At any rate, check out the line. We’ve attached an image of icon Carly Simon wearing a Bennett design.

Country Inspired, City Dwelling: Farmer Industry Jeans

As with lipsticks, handbags, and sunglasses, BeansTalk contends you can never have too many pairs of jeans.

BeansTalk is particularly thrilled with fit and fashion statement we make in our new Farmer Industry Jeans.

The El Toro is notable for its twisted inseam, contoured fit, midback and low front, gingham tab detail, contrast stitching, seamed fly-front, and American 1% flex denim. BeansTalk would feel comfortable wearing these to a tractor pull or a hip LA restaurant. Your choice.

Actor Tim Daly (Wings, The Sopranos), who stars on the much-buzzed about new ABC fall series The Nine (Wednesdays, 10 p.m. -- about a group of strangers held hostage for 52 hours after a botched robbery -- stopped by the Farmer Industry Jean booth, as BeansTalk did, at Showtime’s Emmy Gift House and chose a pair that suited him.

BeansTalk didn’t get to meet designer and owner Paul Lang but photographic evidence demonstrates he was handing them out himself at one point. Other celebs who were gifted include: Thekla Reuten (Sleeper Cell), Kevin Alejandro (Sleeper Cell), Malin Ackerman, and Adam Gaynor (Matchbox 20).

These denims definitely do not have that mass-produced look or feel, but rather a personalized and casual signature look. We think we look quite fetching in them. You can too. We nosed around the web and found them at www.revolveclothing.com
--BeansTalk Associate Editor Andrea Goodwin

Women’s Wear Daily reported this summer:

Farmer

This Los Angeles-based denim company specializes in premium denim bottoms for a core customer base of 18- to 45-year-old women. The Farmer label concentrates on "the cultivation of denim," said chief executive officer and designer Peter Lang, adding that "denim is life's necessity, a medium for personal style, not fashion."

Jeans styles showcase modern lines and vintage treatments in traditional indigo denim for rugged and timeless silhouettes. Bottoms "aremeant to look old and naturally worn," said Lang, who achieves this look through light hand-sanding techniques and short stone runs. Two styles expected to be popular this season are the Clash "indie slim,"which comes in a skinny-leg silhouette, and the Glory, a contoured slim cut. Wholesale prices range from $90 to $125.

Now entering its third year, Farmer has acquired 150 better specialty store accounts, including Twist in Naperville, Ill., and E StreetDenim in Highland Park, Ill. Volume for 2007 is projected at $2 million, according to Lang.

Skincare Secrets: Elizabeth Grant

BeansTalk staffer Patricia Cramer was the recipient of a generous sampling of full-size Elizabeth Grant products, which were featured at the pre-Oscar Silver Spoon Buffet. Just in time to replenish her supply, the company was at the recently held Showtime Emmy Suites.
Since she’s swears by the products, we're passing the information onto you (more at www.elizabethgrant.com)

Elizabeth Grant: The Backstory

The company was started 40 years ago in London, England. Grant’s skin was damaged during World War II, and she became embarrassed by the condition, but then heard about a substance used to treat war wounds and had some formulated for her and applied it to her skin. As a makeup artist, she worked closely with many women and one commented on how young-looking her skin appeared. Grant gave her a sample. Grant says “Ten days later she called me and asked me to get her some more. She said her skin was starting to feel normal again. When I saw her 6 weeks later, her skin was glowing. Paula Dorf: Confirming Why We Love Makeup

Two BeansTalk staffers got to actually meet one of our makeup idols, Paula Dorf (that's her in the image left), at the Showtime Emmy Suites. Dorf heads up Paula Dorf Cosmetics, and created a line of professional makeup brushes while working as the key makeup artist for some of music's top performers (including our all-time favorite pop star, Stevie Nicks). Once on set, Dorf realized the heavy foundation was no match for the heavier lights, and walked over to a local art supply store, cut up high quality paint brushes and began to apply foundation to skin with a maestro's hand, began the widely copied technique of using brushes to apply foundation. This lead to the creation of her own collection of professional makeup brushes.

When we left the Paula Dorf make-up area at the suites (our associate editor was getting touched up on her Cyndi Nistal-created brows; more on that later), Dorf was engaged in a major conversation with Judie Nitzin, whose husband Gregory Itzin was was nominated for an Emmy (he plays the president on "24").

The Sephora site (www.sephora.com) says Dorf’s makeup is the best of the best in terms of the makeup, but no makeup look.

Paula Dorf’s Tricks of the Trade

1. Paula Dorf Eye Primer $24
Dab this cream neutralizer onto lids prior to applying shadow to help color stay true and last all day.
2. Paula Dorf TransFormer $17
Turn any eyeshadow into liquid eyeliner with a drop or two of this wonder fluid.
3. Paula Dorf Enhancer Baby Eyes For Eyes & Lips $16
This peach-toned pencil brightens the lower rim of the eyes, making them appear wide open. Also, try it above your lip line for the prettiest pout.
4. Paula Dorf EyeLite $24
Say goodbye to tired eyes. This feather-light cream diffuses light for an instant pick-me-up, and a relaxed and refreshed look.
5. Paula Dorf Perfect Lash? $15
This lash conditioner thickens every last lash for a full, lush look. Apply a few swipes before applying mascara to help plump thin, sparse lashes.
6. Paula Dorf Perfect Illusion $20
Prime your lips with this emollient perfector that plumps the lips and stops feathering.
7. Paula Dorf Sweep Away? Clean Up Stick $10
Now you see it ' now you don't. This instant clean up stick magically sweeps away makeup mishaps in seconds.

We’ve certainly written enough on BeansTalk about our favorite lipsticks, but Dorf’s is definitely a contender. We love the lip color Bikini, new from Dorf (it’s on Dorf’s actual site, http://www.pauladorf.com/); it’s exactly the kind of bronzy prettiness we need to accent our growing collection of chocolate colored clothing. Both of the lucky staffers who met Dorf loved the color (although one of us had a lipstick disaster involving overly curious younger household members and guests). The other of us loves the vibrant red of Legend. Paula Dorf Lip Color, $19.

Leonor Greyl: Euro Hair Care

As we mentioned in an earlier piece about our impressive new T3 Tourmaline Featherlight Hair Dryer, we have a vested interested in our hair. Then again, who doesn’t? Right now we’re using a new product featured at the Showtime Emmy Suites. So far, so good.

We have a couch that Brad Pitt allegedly custom-ordered and then decided he didn’t want and now we’re using the hair products that he allegedly uses.

Wire in the Blood Returns

Robson Green Returns For A Fourth Season Of Wire In The Blood
BBC AMERICA co-produces a new season

Robson Green (Rocketman, Reckless) stars as Dr. Tony Hill in Wire in the Blood, based on Val McDermid’s best-selling novels. Whatever Tony’s trying to crack — Internet chat rooms, a deadly hypnotist, suicide cults, or DNA evidence — it’s riveting to watch this unassuming, fanatical clinical psychologist think. The way he answers a question from eight minutes ago, talks loudly to himself and doesn’t even notice he’s standing in a downpour is enough to make his colleagues crazy. But it’s all part of a brilliant process that’s impossible to explain — especially to detectives who want facts, not theories. Although Tony is one of the best profilers in the business, he’s often conflicted about his work and abilities. And this season, an old flame, the loss of a patient and the fear his tumor has returned will bring Tony straight to the edge. Wire in the Blood premieres Monday, October 2, 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

In the first episode, Tony’s credibility is questioned when a rapist he helped convict is released on appeal. Things get even worse when Tony learns that Carol, the police detective he worked with, has left the force for South Africa, and her replacement, Alex Fielding (Simone Lahbib, Monarch of the Glen, Bad Girls), doesn’t want Tony anywhere near her case load.

When the body of a young woman is found in a barrel buried in a field, Alex believes the murder is isolated, but Tony is convinced that this body is linked to several cases of missing persons involving young women. He can’t prove it, but his theory is they were all lured to their deaths by a serial killer posting messages on a sado-masochistic internet site, where their own fantasies are being used against them. A battle ensues as Alex tries to shake Tony off as he doggedly pursues the case. Alex even threatens to have him arrested if he doesn’t stop snooping around. But if Tony stops, a young woman is more likely to die. Will Tony be able to convince Alex he can be trusted before it’s too late?

What The British Press Said:

“One of the best of the current generation of TV crime thrillers…” Financial Times

“… Green has matured into a first-class actor. His role as neurotic, obsessive criminal psychologist Dr. Tony Hill brings out the best in him.” Daily Express

“Wire in the Blood turned out to be brisk, creepy, unusually well characterized and directed with a good deal of style. Robson Green was especially impressive.” Sunday Telegraph

“Could this be the new Cracker? This is certainly a promising start.” Evening Standard

“… refreshingly quirky and unusually edgy.” The Times

“Robson Green should be congratulated. Wire in the Blood, was shocking in every respect yet not once did I reach for the remote control. This was a far slicker killer thriller than any I have encountered before - I watched every second.” Sunday Mirror

Episode Synopses

Episode one

Tony Hill is having problems. A rapist convicted years ago, as a result of Tony’s first forensic psychological profile, is released on appeal and Tony is discredited. Carol won’t return his calls offering to help police investigations after a body is found in a barrel buried in a field. And his therapist thinks he’s resisting treatment because he clings to the dark side of his psyche.

Things get worse when Tony realizes that Carol has gone — left the Bradfield force for South Africa without even telling him. And her successor, Alex, doesn’t want Tony and his serial killer theory anywhere near her work. Alex assumes the body in the field is the dead wife of convicted matricidal farmer Darren. But then another body is found, a catalogue of girls going missing under similar circumstances emerges and Alex begins to realize Tony’s theory could be right after all.

A battle ensues as Alex tries to shake Tony off but he doggedly pursues the case. Tony realizes the missing young women are being lured via a sado-masochistic internet site. Their own fantasies are being preyed on by a killer who uses them until boredom sets in, and then discards them for the next victim. To catch the perpetrator Tony must tap in to his own dark fantasies and Alex must discard her prejudices to help him unlock a macabre final twist as they race to save the latest kidnapped girl.

Episode one premieres Monday, October 2, 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Episode two

Police are baffled when a prostitute’s murder matches in every detail a series of killings for which Derek Tyler has already been caught and jailed. Tony knows it can’t be a copycat, because in sexual homicides every killer has their own unique signature. But if this isn’t someone imitating Tyler’s atrocities than how are the killings happening at all? While Alex and her team struggle for a lead on the streets, Tony thinks Tyler holds the key. But there’s a problem — Tyler has remained utterly mute since the day he was arrested and, to crack him, Tony has to use every ounce of his psychological skill and imagination.

Tensions develop within the police operation as the vice-squad Detective Inspector disagrees with Alex’s running of the case. And things go disastrously wrong when one of the detectives becomes bait for the killer and is kidnapped without trace.

All the experts have diagnosed Tyler as a schizophrenic who heard imaginary voices telling him to kill. But Tony realizes that Tyler’s inner “voice” was a real one. He is the victim of brainwashing — and whoever controlled him is now controlling another killer and has their colleague, Paula, within their power. When it becomes clear that whoever is doing this has access to information about the police investigation, Tony confronts his one and only suspect and is almost killed in the process. Will his intervention save both Paula’s life and Alex’s career?

Episode two premieres Monday, October 9, 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Episode three

Saving student Kurt from leaping to his death makes Tony ponder why someone might want to take their own life. He’d like to help Kurt feel better, but Kurt doesn’t stick around in therapy long enough to debate the issue. He disappears to hook up with a new group of “friends” and Tony is left feeling inadequate.

Meanwhile a businessman and his accountant die in a horrible fire — apparently victims of deliberate arson. Were they murdered by jealous partners? There seems no reason for the deaths. But these are not the last pair of corpses found in Bradfield, and Alex turns to Tony for help. Masonic symbolism leads the investigation to a local lodge but to no avail. Then Tony makes a breakthrough — the ways in which each of the pairs of victims has died bears uncanny resemblance to the deaths of Christian saints. This is a suicide cult. Someone is breeding murderous martyrs and the deaths will continue until Tony and Alex find the source.

A local vicar with links to many of the victims looks the most likely candidate, but when he kills himself, Tony realizes he’s merely an ordinary cult member sacrificing himself to show his loyalty — and remorse. He builds a profile of the true leader for Alex and her team and piecing together the ways in which the cult members were recruited enables them to arrest their man.

For a moment the team are jubilant, but then Tony realizes that the group of new “friends” Kurt has found is actually a murderous cabal. Kurt must be found and stopped before he uses his knowledge of biochemistry to wreak havoc. Tony has to use every skill he has as a therapist to save the day.

Episode three premieres Monday, October 16, 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Episode four

Tony’s first case with the police comes back to haunt him when Jason Eglee, convicted of murder on Tony’s evidence, comes up for parole. Jason appears to be a reformed character after years of therapy in prison, but Tony’s not convinced. He manages to sway the board to his view, until Eglee’s distraught mother attacks him before collapsing and dying. To the press and public Tony has blood on his hands, and Eglee is released as a compassionate gesture.

When a girl is murdered in the same circumstances as Eglee’s former victim, Tony is in no doubt that Eglee is starting a new spree. But Eglee has a cast iron alibi in the form of his therapist Ozick — who has tapes of their session on the night of the murder. Even worse, when Eglee is persuaded to give a blood sample, he’s found to be innocent — the DNA evidence from over ten years ago does not match his.

Tony’s confidence begins to crumble and, as pro-Eglee reporter hounds him for an expose, Alex decides she can no longer permit him to work for the police. Life gets even worse when he encounters old flame Karen — intent on trying to restart their relationship and so unstable that Tony’s rejection is devastating. Now even Tony feels guilty and fears he has lost the empathic perception on which he relies.

But although everyone has lost faith in Tony, his acuity hasn’t deserted him. As the murderer gears up to take another victim, Tony suddenly realizes how the killer was able to take on a double identity and also create a false alibi. Now all Tony has to do is persuade Alex to believe him so they can catch the killer before another young woman dies.

Episode four premieres Monday, October 23, 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Interview With Robson Green

On how the four latest are the best – and scariest – episodes yet:

“I feel that this series is our strongest so far, and we are always pushing the budget so each episode has a filmic quality. I am very proud of it, and I hope our viewers will be terrified and intrigued by it. One of the episodes is full of religious imagery – hanging, beheading and drowning with a millstone around the neck. The killer is someone who’s besotted with the artist Caravaggio. Like the slaying of John the Baptist, whose head was served on a plate, this is how one of the victims ends up. It’s full of symbolism and it’s like a feature film in the way it’s shot and lit. But when Michael, the actor, turned his head round on the plate and said, ‘hello Robson’ it was terrifying! It’s nightmarish stuff and I was a bit scared to pick up the new scripts because of what they might reveal. But the feedback we’ve had from around the world is that people enjoy being scared by the films and want us to push the boundaries a little bit further, without being gratuitous of course. Our aim, through the writing, performances, design and effects, is to create a chilling atmosphere.”

On doing a series based on serial killings:

“Murder is destructive, dark and horrible. The consequences are visually unpleasant. Our program is fictional, but what we have to say is important. As long as it’s not a gore fest, we don’t shy away from the reality of what we’re talking about, which is destructive behavior. I don’t go around celebrating the violence but I enjoy experiencing the reasons why people behave as they do. It’s an interesting learning curve for me – the most educational piece I’ve ever been part of.”

On the new character, DI Alex Fielding, played by Simone Lahbib:

“She really doesn’t want him on board but in the end thanks him for being there. Tony and Alex have to learn to trust each other and work together to solve the murders and their new relationship brings a new energy and warmth to the series.”

On his soft-treading hero, Dr. Tony Hill:

“Tony’s far more outside the university now and more involved in the police work, as a volunteer. But he’s on the periphery. When the crime is solved he disappears. He’s never applauded for what he does and he doesn’t stand out in a crowd. Just like a surgeon who performs something profound in hospital or someone who’s carried out an amazing engineering feat. You wouldn’t look at them twice.”

On the appeal of Wire in the Blood:

“I can understand why it is a very successful program because its themes are universal and what Tony has to say is very interesting. It’s unusual though, because he’s a clumsy character, not your clichéd lead. He travels to work on a bicycle and has his life in a blue polythene bag.”

On his hobby, organic gardening:

“I’ve got a greenhouse with melons, eggplants, marrows, peppers and chili. I have a real thing about it and I hate it when a plant dies – life in the fast lane, eh!”

Scientific Skincare

Dr. Gregory Bays Brown created the skincare line – RéVive.

Brown established a laboratory to conduct a two-million dollar study on healing severe wounds of burn victims. In his research, he discovered a bioengineered molecule called EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor) -that when applied to burns and wounds, dramatically accelerated healing in all patients tested.

Brown had a revelation: this was the same molecule that regenerated aging skin. He was compelled to apply the same intensive scientific attention to skincare. He set up a laboratory within the burn research unit convinced that the only way to obtain the fluid-filled skin of youth was at the molecular level -with EGF. He proved that in a cream form, he could give women what they really want: the vibrant skin of their youth.

Brown was the first doctor and scientist to apply the bioengineered version of EGF into skincare. The discovery of EGF went on to win a Nobel Prize in 1986. His findings were published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 1989. He won the cosmetic patent for EGF in 1994. Through perseverance, Brown launched RéVive to the public in 1997.

“I’ve been using RéVive on patients since 1991,” says Brown. “I was able to show real results objectively with biopsies to prove we increased cell turnover. There is nothing surgically that can do what RéVive does -to give you that dewy-glow and luscious, youthful skin. There is no single magic bullet in aging but we can already delay plastic surgery with RéVive products. If you use it religiously, RéVive will decrease the magnitude of the surgical procedure needed.”

RéVive line is based on one irrefutable fact: in your 20’s skin regenerates every two to three weeks (i.e. skin cells turn over regularly to expose fresh new skin underneath the dead top layer of skin cells). As we age skin regeneration slows to eight or nine weeks. Dead cells gather on the surface, look worn out, and contribute to dull dry looking skin. Alternatively, new cells with quick life cycles produce fresh and radiant skin and improve skin quality and tone.

RéVive speeds up skin cells on a molecular level how the molecules work.

The Formula / EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor)
At the heart of RéVive Sensitif Cellular Repair and Moisturizing Renewal Creams is the highly active EGF molecule (Epidermal Growth Factor). It is released in the body when there is an injury and when applied to aging skin can restore luminosity. Made of 53 amino acids, Dr. Brown combined it into creams that produce small miracles. Only RéVive has this technology and it works to bring the ‘RéVive glow’ to the face within days.

IGF (Insulin-like Growth Factor)
IGF firms and strengthens the underlying collagen to thicken the dermis. IGF prevents sagging and plumps fine lines and is called the youth molecule because it actually boosts collagen production and re-juices the skin.

KGF (Keratinocyte Growth Factor)
KGF is the newest most potent molecule yet. KGF works specifically to increase facial volume – a subtle loss over decades that dramatically ages the face. KGF can potentially fill the creases, lift the sag, and tighten the droop. “This is the first product to address volume,” says Dr. Brown.

KGF achieves results never before possible in skincare because it doesn_t just speed up skin cell turnover (8 times faster!) but halts DNA fragmentation to prevent cells from spinning out of control. KGF has a quick response and enhances skins fluidity in days.

MPI
MPI slows signs of aging by inhibiting the loss of skin’s natural elasticity and collagen levels. MPI rebuilds broken capillaries and significantly diminishes fine lines, sun damage, and rosacea.

GLOSSARY

EGF [Epidermal Growth Factor]: A naturally occurring protein molecule that dramatically increases skin cell regeneration and whose important discovery warranted a 1986 Nobel Prize.

SOD [Superoxide Dismutase]: One of the most powerful preventative antioxidants available. Dominant in white blood cells, it purifies skin’s surface of the environmental impurities and free radicals that age and pollute the skin.

Exfoliants [Glycolic]: Organic acids that remove the dead outer layer of skin allowing regenerated cells to rise to the surface. An acid base intensifies EGF’s ability to ‘retexturize’ the skin and achieve the RéVive glow.

Firming Agents: Organic compounds that maintain the skin’s natural elasticity and resist the daily pull of gravity.
