411 on Saja: At four-years old, in her native Korea, Saja designer Yoo Lee began learning to draw and paint. It didn’t take long for her love of colors and textures to manifest themselves into cutting clothes for her Barbie. By 12, she was attending classes at the NY Institute of Art further rounding out her classical art training.

Yoo trained at the Royal Melbourne Institue of Techonology in Australia and the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, where she held a prestigious internship under Richard Tyler. After stints as Assistant Designer at BCBG, Designer at Xie and Max Studio (one of our favorite retail labels), and Colorist at DKNY, Yoo decided to create her own line. In February of 2000 Saja was born.

Saja is inspired by the lines, glamour and feminity of 1920’s and 30’s fashion, when women were elegant, mysterious and sensual. With a nod to the renowned French dressmaker Madeleine Vionnet, Saja’s quality is defined in details-french seams, silk linings, only natural fabrics, hand embroidery and beading. www.sajainc.com.
