Roseanne Cash on Today, Letterman, NPR
With the release date of her new album for Manhattan Records, The List, on October 6, 2009, singer-songwriter Rosanne Cash announced a series of upcoming television and radio appearances in which she performs songs from The List and talks about her decision to record her first-ever covers album, which features Cash’s contemporary, stylish interpretations of 12 classic songs culled from her list of essential country tunes that her legendary father Johnny gave her in 1973.
The week of the album’s release, Cash will perform on NBC’s The Today Show on October 6, 2009, followed by a performance on CBS’s The Late Show With David Letterman on October 7, 2009.
Cash will also appear on NPR’s “Fresh Air” and “Morning Edition,” as well as American Public Media’s “A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor,” broadcast live from the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, MN, on October 17th at 4:45 p.m. CT. In addition, listeners will be able to hear The List streamed in it's entirety as part of NPR Music's "Exclusive First Listen" series from September 29th through October 6th.
Following on the heels of September performances at the Country Music Hall of Fame© and Museum and WNYC’s Greene Space, Cash and her band will open the St. Ann’s Warehouse 30th Anniversary Season by performing The List on October 9th and 10th. St. Ann’s Warehouse is located at 38 Water Street in Brooklyn. Tickets are currently on-sale. Please visit www.stannswarehouse.org for more information.
Produced and arranged by Grammy Award winner John Leventhal (Cash’s husband), The List gives intimate insight into one of America’s best-loved musical families. The album includes Cash’s covers of songs written and/or recorded by The Carter Family (“Bury Me Under the Weeping Willow”), Hank Williams (“Take These Chains From My Heart”), Jimmie Rodgers (“Miss The Mississippi and You”), Hank Cochran/Patsy Cline (“She’s Got You”), Merle Haggard (“Silver Wings”), and Bob Dylan (“Girl From the North Country,” famously done by Dylan and Johnny Cash in 1969). The first single from The List is Don Gibson’s “Sea of Heartbreak,” which features guest vocals from Bruce Springsteen. The track is currently available for download on iTunes.
Two bonus tracks from The List will be available exclusively at Barnes & Noble and iTunes beginning October 6th. The bonus track "Sweet Memories," featuring Chris Thile, will be on CDs sold exclusively at Barnes & Noble, and "Satisfied Mind," featuring Neko Case, will be available digitally on iTunes.
On The List: “How can one not get excited to hear Cash wrap that gorgeous, throaty alto around elite, time-tested material handpicked by the legendary Man in Black?” asks USA Today. “Long revered as a master songwriter, Rosanne is equally talented at reinterpretation, singing with such close-to-the-bone sincerity that you can’t help but think: like father, like daughter,” says Elle magazine of The List in its 25 Essential Happenings feature.

Friends of El Faro, a dedicated group of actors, musicians, and friends aim to enhance the quality of life for Tijuana’s children all by providing simple necessities such as food, shelter, and basic schooling. In the past several years the orphanage has begun to flourish and now includes seven buildings, a computer lab, and full-time school for all the children. The Orphanage though is continuing to expand and remains committed to the children of Tijuana, Mexico.

The Ona Spa took care of a couple of Emmy attendees pre-event.

Heidi Klum's Glam Emmy Look
This year for the 61st Annual Emmy Awards nominee, Heidi Klum (seen above on the red carpet with her husband, Seal), walked the red carpet in a Marchesa gown, Lorraine Schwartz jewels, with her hair styled by Michel Aleman for Frederic Fekkai & make-up designed by Linda Hay.
Michel Aleman for Frederic Fekkai created a Fifties inspired up-do with a modern interpretation. To get the look, he crafted soft texture with slight waves pulled back to softly frame the face. A strong middle part was accented by a chignon positioned back of the head at ear level. Michel started off by applying Fekkai Coiff Bouffant Gel to create some texture and then blow-dried the hair. Once dry, he applied Fekkai Coiff Oceanique to create the soft waves. He created a middle part and two pony tails in the back of the head at ear level, making sure the hair in front is smooth but pulled back softly. He teased each ponytail to create the volume and then brought together into one dramatic chignon. Aleman finished off with the Fekkai Advanced Brilliant Glossing Sheer Shine Mist.
The simplicity of Klum’s gown inspired Linda Hay to keep her makeup minimal and fresh. She used a palette of pale pinks and apricots for her eyes and cheeks. To begin Hay used Brightener around her eyes, nose, and the corners of the mouth, blending everywhere to even out Heidi’s complexion. She followed this with a very light touch of cream powder blush on the cheeks.
On the eyes Hay used a selection of pale pink and lavender shadow's from Victoria’s Secret, applying the pale pink to the lid using a flat shadow brush, lavender in the crease using a pointed shadow brush and a silver to highlight just under the eyebrow. Under the eye Hay applied a touch of lavender using a small pointed shadow brush and then added a touch of silver to the inside corner of the eye to make it pop. Next she curled the lashes + applied 3 layers of Black Mascara to the top and bottom. Individual lashes were applied to the outside corners to make the eyes pop. The lips were lined with a nude lip liner then painted with a beige lipstick. She finished off Klum’s look with Victoria’s Secret Body Perfecting Spray to make her skin glow.

Brit Drama Occupation Premieres
Occupation is a powerful drama concerning the lives of three British soldiers caught physically and emotionally in the cross-fire of the Iraq war.
Described by one critic as “one of the very best British dramas of the decade,” it’s written by Peter Bowker, writer of the Golden Globe nominated Viva Blackpool and produced by the makers of Life on Mars and MI-5. Having participated in the invasion, and helped fly a critically injured child from Basra to a UK hospital, three soldiers find it impossible to slot back into civilian life.
Driven by very different motives – each heads back to Basra. Sergeant Mike Swift (James Nesbitt, Five Minutes of Heaven, Jekyll) returns for the love of an Iraqi doctor, Aliyah (Lubna Azabal). Corporal Danny Peterson (Stephen Graham, Public Enemies, This Is England) returns for money, setting up a private security firm. Lance Corporal Lee Hibbs (Warren Brown, Shameless) returns because he passionately believes in the mission to rebuild the country and help the Iraqi people - and the mission is nowhere near accomplished.
Amid growing sectarian conflict, and a boom time fueled by billions U.S. dollars, their dreams come to define not just their lives but also the occupation itself. Occupation unveils a tale of wasted billions, lost lives, corporate greed, and a war that has left many questions unanswered.
Occupation, Part One premieres Sunday, October 18, 8 p.m. ET/PT and Part Two premieres Sunday, October 18, 10 p.m. ET/PT

THE LIFE OF MAMMALS: A WINNING DESIGN – CHANNEL PREMIERE
David Attenborough introduces the audience to the most diverse group of animals ever to live on Earth, from the tiny two-inch pygmy shrew to the enormous blue whale; from the sloth to the swift cheetah; from the naked mole-rat to the human baby. This is the story of 4,000 species which have outlived the dinosaurs and conquered the farthest places on Earth. With bodies kept warm by thick coats of fur and their developing young protected and nourished within their bodies, they have managed to colonize every part of the globe, dry or wet, hot or cold.
The Life of Mammals: A Winning Design premieres 5:00 p.m. ET/2:00 p.m. PT
GRIZZLY: NATURE’S ENTREPRENEUR – CHANNEL PREMIERE
Few animals can match the intelligence, resourcefulness or power of the North American brown bear, or "grizzly". This documentary meets the most intelligent and adaptable of the world’s eight species of bear, filming 14,000 feet high in the Himalayas, in the Gobi desert and of course in North America. The film reveals the bear’s curiosity, playfulness and fighting prowess and its important role in the survival of its environment. Most surprising of all is that - just like us - every grizzly is its own character - in looks, temperament and skills.
Gizzly: Nature’s Entrepreneur premieres 6:00 p.m. ET/3:00 p.m. PT
LION: SPY IN THE DEN – CHANNEL PREMIERE
This documentary takes natural-world filmmaking to another level, when the award-winning team of director and cameraman employs remote-control buggy-cameras, buried periscopes and state-of-the-art night vision technology to truly enter the lion's den. When a lion charges, the viewers charge with it, when it rests, we lie alongside. In what is a new achievement for lion specialists, the program is able to examine the fragile alliances between pride males and their relationships with neighboring rivals.
Lion: Spy in the Den premieres 7:00 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. PT

SIR DAVID ATTENBOROUGH
Sir David Attenborough is one of the world’s best-known natural history presenters. His distinguished career spans more than 50 years, during which time he has done more than anyone else to popularize natural history programming and has become one of the world’s most respected authorities on wildlife. His combination of charm and enthusiasm, together with concern for conservation and the environment, has been profoundly influential on several generations of viewers.
Born in London on 8 May 1926, Attenborough studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge. He served in the Royal Navy and joined the BBC in 1952 as a trainee producer of documentary programs. In 1954, he became a presenter and launched his famous series, Zoo Quest, which took him to the wilder parts of the world. In 1965, he took one of the top jobs in the BBC, Controller of BBC2, and was responsible for the introduction of color television into Britain. He went on to run both BBC television networks and in 1973, returned to program-making.
In 1979, he wrote and presented Life on Earth, at the time the most ambitious series ever produced by the BBC’s Natural History Unit - an estimated 500 million people worldwide watched it. In 1984, came its sequel, The Living Planet, and in 1990, The Trials of Life, the final part of the epic trilogy spanning all life on Earth. This was followed by Life in the Freezer (1993), The Private Life of Plants (1995), The Life of Birds (1998), The Life of Mammals (2002), Life In The Undergrowth (2005) and Life In Cold Blood (2007), all of which received huge acclaim and many awards including the accompanying books and DVDs which topped bestseller lists.
In 2002, Attenborough celebrated 50 years with the BBC with Life On Air, a television biography and bestselling book and on his 80th birthday, in 2006, was on the Galapagos Islands filming giant tortoises for Life In Cold Blood. Other recent projects include The Blue Planet and Planet Earth. Over the years Attenborough has received countless prestigious awards and honorary degrees and in 2005, he was awarded the Order of Merit by the Queen which recognizes exceptional distinction in the arts, sciences and other areas.

“It is so important for everyone across the country to dare to be conscious and aware of the struggles of those around them—even if those struggles are not the same as their own," says Crow. "Feeding America does just that, and it’s a great privilege for me to unite with them in their cause.”
“Rock a Little, Feed a Lot” is one of many initiatives for Feeding America’s Hunger Action Month and benefits both Feeding America and its local member, the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank.
Hunger Action Month, formed to help those in need, bloomed from a day of service into a month-long campaign as the economy has taken a turn for the worse and the demand for food assistance has increased.
“Many Americans are unaware of the great demand for food assistance throughout the country," says Vicki Escarra, president and CEO of Feeding America. "The need for food assistance nationwide has increased 30 percent throughout the last year and in many communities the increase is much higher. “We are excited to team up with so many talented artists to shed light on Hunger Action Month and the issue of hunger in America.”
“We are so grateful for the generous support of these artists -- and residents of Los Angeles -- for their time and efforts to raise awareness about hunger in America,” adds Michael Flood, President & CEO of the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank. “The agencies we serve are experiencing unprecedented demand for food assistance and this event will help shine the bright spotlight of the entertainment community on the issue of hunger in America.”

Grant Hart of Hüsker Dü's
New Solo: "Hot Wax"
Grant Hart's new solo album, Hot Wax, will be available on CD and vinyl worldwide on October 6th, 2009.
1980s' alternative rock has gone down in the history of music as one of the most fertile and influential musical movements ever - as judged by the amount of notable bands that would subsequently "follow the leaders." And one of the leading lights of the movement was unquestionably Hüsker Dü. After the group's split, drummer Grant Hart moved out front with guitar in hand, and also handled lead vocals on his solo releases. But Hart has spent the last few years working on Hot Wax.
Joining Hart on the disc is a diverse cast of musicians from Godspeed You Black Emperor, Silver Mt. Zion, and Rank Strangers with the tracks being recorded in both Montreal and Minneapolis. Hart explains:
"The song 'Narcissus, Narcissus' is my first attempt at combining ancient Greek mythology and American rock-a-billy. By merging those influences with an ice cream truck atmosphere I think I have found a style that defines this period of my career. 'You're the Reflection of the Moon on the Water' is one of the most organic rock and roll songs that I have ever written. It's style owes a lot to my devotion for Patti Smith. It was inspired by a comment made by a monk during the selection process to find the next Panchen Lhama, who said of one candidate, 'He is the reflection of the moon on the water but he is not the moon'."
Hot Wax (Cover Art)As a member of Hüsker Dü (which also included singer/guitarist Bod Mould and mustachioed bassist Greg Norton), Hart played on such all-time alt-rock classics as 1984's Zen Arcade and 1985's New Day Rising, while constantly criss-crossing the U.S. with legendary explosive live shows. Since Hüsker Dü's split in 1987, Hart has sporadically issued solo releases, and was also spotted as a member of the group Nova Mob. He has found a place and function in visual and dramatic art forms as well. Hot Wax will be Grant's sixth solo release overall.
