Karyn’s on Green
by Amanda Bellafiore BeansTalk Contributing Editor
Tucked away in Chicago’s Greektown neighborhood, between condos and public parking lots, the vegan dining movement blooms at Karyn’s on Green.
As the sun pours light into the large, white-walled dining room you can’t help but feel at peace sitting underneath the earthy carved ceiling. With quiet music playing in the background and a soft fountain tricking over a stone slab you don’t know whether to ask for a massage or a table for two.
“I want to take the granola out of vegan and make it sexy,” said Karyn Calabrese, award winning holistic expert and owner of Karyn’s on Green. “You won’t see any Birkenstocks here.”
Whether you are a vegan hipster or a notorious meat-eater, Karyn’s on Green is the perfect bridge between the two. With plates priced from $6 to $15 you can enjoy maki rolls, vegan cheese pizza or Karyn’s favorite, the crispy chicken legs.
Open seven days a week, this chic eatery fills the most seats once the clock strikes six. Get a table when the stars are in town and maybe you’ll catch a glimpse of Will Ferrell or John Cusack indulging in their favorite dishes.
