You would think that after more than 30 years of practicing veterinary medicine, raising three kids, maintaining a bustling practice, and eating all the fresh farm steak he can get, this senior would slow down. Nope, not Dr. Pol! He’s a rare breed that thrives on helping all creatures great and small. And lucky for us, he’s still going strong with his down-and-dirty approach to veterinary medicine. And we get to join him once again as Nat Geo WILD’s #1 series The Incredible Dr. Pol returns with an all new season Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Having serviced thousands of patients since opening his now thriving practice in 1981, Dr. Pol is the definition of passionate. Passion is the key to his success and stamina. His day isn’t complete unless he’s checked a cow for pregnancy or helped a goat with pneumonia. Once again we join the good doctor as he travels around the Michigan countryside, making house calls to a variety of farm animals. Regardless of their size or condition, if they are kicking or biting, Dr. Pol is the man with the goods to heal.

This season, Dr. Pol’s son Charles is still home to help his parents and Dr. Brenda with the clinic, while Dr. Pol’s wife, Diane, keeps the clinic in tip-top order! With winter finally slowing down, spring brings a whole new set of animal ailments, as mating season is in full bloom. We’ll see a horse whose hormones are so out of control, he is chasing after mares half his size; an emergency castration of two bulls when their owner tried to do the procedure himself; and a retired racing greyhound with a strange growth on his forehead that needs to be removed. No job is too hard or too large for our favorite vet!

The Incredible Dr. Pol: Noah’s Bark

Premieres Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at 9 p.m. ET/PT

The winter snow has turned into torrential rain, bringing a flood of farm calls to Pol Veterinary Services. The vets, farmers and animals alike are growing weary of the deluge of rain-related problems and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight. In the pouring rain, Dr. Pol rushes out to Pohl Dairy to check on a normally docile dairy cow that is acting out of its mind. Could the incessant rain be affecting this cow as well? Dr. Pol wonders if the real problem could be the rainwater leaching the farm’s feed supply. Meanwhile, Jacob the goat and Nellie the pig come in with their concerned owner, who’s worried they are sharing a skin infection. And Pickles the chameleon has a cyst that needs Dr. Pol’s astute eye to check it over. When it rains, it pours, and Dr. Pol isn’t letting a little rain slow him down.

The Incredible Dr. Pol: Spring Fever

Premieres Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at 9 p.m. ET/PT

Spring is beginning to bloom as the animals begin to run wild. First on the doctor’s list is revved-up mini-horse, Mateo, to see if Dr. Pol can tame his big ego. Ever since spring began, Mateo’s hormones have kicked in, making him go wild for the mares, even if he’s half their size. The solution is to castrate Mateo to lessen the testosterone, but this turns out to be no ordinary castration. Then the Gray family’s cow, Jezebel, is in distress and unable to birth her calf. Dr. Pol and Charles discover that Jezebel has milk fever and if not treated quickly enough, Jezebel could slip into a coma, causing both her and her calf to die. Meanwhile, Boo the dog has a run-in with a porcupine, leaving him with a mouthful of quills needing to be plucked. Not a walk in the park for this dog, but he’ll be back to normal soon enough.

The Incredible Dr. Pol: The Bull Pen

Premieres Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at 9 p.m. ET/PT

Dr. Pol and Charles start their day by heading out to see a sick ox at Matt Middleton’s farm. The ox has lost weight and is having trouble breathing. After an examination, Dr. Pol finds that the ox’s lungs are in bad shape; most likely he’s contracted pneumonia and it’s so advanced, Dr. Pol is unsure if the animal will make it. Back at the clinic, Dr. Brenda sees Remington, a dog that has accidentally ripped the skin off the top of his back. After administering an anesthetic, Dr. Brenda carefully trims the excess skin and stitches Remington back together. Meanwhile, Dr. Pol and Charles head off to John Jourdain’s farm to fix a castration gone wrong. After the owner John’s attempt at castrating his two bulls was unsuccessful, one has actually become more aggressive. Dr. Pol needs to castrate these bulls as soon as possible to ensure the safety of both the bull and owner John.
