Alexander's Inspiration
In the June issue of Harp Magazine (on stands now), Jessi Alexander explains how the 1980 GMC Sierra Classic pickup she inherited from her late grandfather inspired the first line for the vivacious tune "The Long Way" from her debut album 'Honeysuckle Sweet' (Columbia, March 1, 2005).
"That’s me on the pickup truck waiting for some old boy to pick me up,” she says. “He wants to change my zip code and change my luck with warm beer and stale cigarettes. [It] came to me when I was thinking about being 16 on the back of that truck."
