Clive Owen's "Sight" on BBC America

Clive Owen in "Second Sight"

The crime fighting reputation of a tough, determined cop is under threat when he contracts a rare condition that impairs his sight and threatens to derail his career in BBC America's new murder mystery: Second Sight airs on BBC America starting May 5, 2005 at 9 p.m. ET/ PT.

Oscar-nominated Clive Owen (Sin City, Closer) is Detective Chief Inspector Ross Tanner, a highly respected copd. Assigned to the brutal murder of a 19 year-old boy in the debut episode, he discovers he is losing his sight to a rare condition called AZOOR (Acute Zonal Occult Outer Retinopathy).

Tanner, in denial of his condition, pursues an increasingly complex investigation with the hope his sight will soon recover. That is until his eager new deputy, Detective Inspector Catherine Tully (Claire Skinner, Almost Strangers, Bridget Jones's Dairy), discovers his secret. The two agree to form an uneasy alliance, where she will act as his eyes and he will help to fast track her career. As Tanner struggles with his worsening condition his dependence on Catherine becomes more than just professional.

Barely holding on to his sight, and with gossip spreading through the ranks about his special relationship with Catherine, Tanner is hand picked to lead an elite new team of detectives. He will head up the Special Murder Unit, designed to take on the unsolvable, mysterious and high profile cases that have gone cold. He recruits the help of his most trusted colleagues to take on this new challenge.

When the pressure of maintaining their relationship becomes too much for Skinner, she transfers out of the unit leaving Tanner to cope with his disability alone. Can he keep it together long enough for his sight to recover while potentially compromising investigations and the careers of his team or will he finally come to terms with his new reality and give up the job he loves?
