We Rocked, We Rolled
Last night BeansTalk attended the scene that was the Rock and Republic show and party at Sony Studios. It was a must-go-to, especially since it was four blocks away from the BeansTalk office. We weren’t on the VIP parking list and shunned the $20 parking, opting for the 100 feet away street parking, which was free. We got there at
Who Was There: Nicole Murphy (aka Mrs. Eddie Murphy), Stacy from the Apprentice (we didn’t recognize her but our pal, West Coast Fashion Editor for one of the weekly celeb mags, Karen Brailsford, did), Nicole Eggert, The Rock, Jeremy Piven, Kelly Hu, Alana Stewart (daughter Kimberly wore the final long-trained black leather gown at the end of the show, carrying the train for her entire walk), Ali Landry, and a pouting, preening, pink-silk wearing Bobby Trendy with his tranny entourage/posse/barkada (the latter, for those of you – probably all of you – who don't know it, is a Filipino term for, well, posse). It took nearly 35 mins. but accommodating ushers created first-row seats for Trendy and his Carmen Miranda-styled companion.
Highlight: Donovan Leitch doing a kick-ass version of Ballroom Blitz. His performance in general was the best. (We're not just saying that because we were once acquainted with him. And that's not euphemistic in any way.)
Oops: Heralded Mark McGrath came on stage after the show to perform and the much of the audience actually left while he sang.
Love Her, Hate Her: BeansTalk actually loves sassy controversial model Caroline D’Amore (at least, we think that’s her name) who was in the show – at both Smashbox shows and here, she elicits the most response because she demonstrates attitude, personality and a walk all her own. She also has facial expressions.
The Show: Models of both sexes strutted their stuff. What was presented:
Super ultra micro minis so short, even the tiniest of butt cheeks (we’re talking model gluteus maximus, so small) wiggled in full view. Seriously.
First on the runway were a series of colorful big-ass fur hoodies paired with super long (steppin’-on-the-heel) denim jeans, embellished with colored crystals. That was the women. The men wore similar denim, but with fur coats – coats that used to be described in the day as “car coats.”
Plaid blazers embellish with embroidered sayings on men and women
Deconstructed men’s wool bazers, with blue denim patched and cuffs, the latter replete with crystal “cufflinks.”
Denim blazers in pseudo traditional style
Wife beaters and those micro minis (which most often featured a pleated, ruffled bottom – what little of it there was).
Screams erupted when six-pack-ab’ed male models sauntered bare chested in below the knee traditionally designed kilts with colorful plaids.
One of the women’s pleated minis – short in front, just ever so slightly longer in back, featured a fur waist purse, in the style of traditional Scottish Sporrans, replete with the three hanging fringe, here in brushed metal. For actual Sporrans, check out www.highland-wear.co.uk
Sean Stewart (Kimberly’s brother), modeled the burgundy velvet blazer with large black fur lapels.
The Bar: Bartenders were generous with the drinks, pouring strong ones. So strong, we couldn’t finish our sour-apple martini with Effen Vodka (yes, it's fun to say, 'Make me a drink, and use some of that Effen vodka!") I know, I know, we’re so five minutes ago with that martini. But we loved our Zen lychee tequila drink the previous night at the Pure Fiji/Blue party.
