Kevin James, Ray Romano

CBS Stars Putt-er Around the Pebble Beach Pro-Am

The early season PGA tour stop is at the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Each February, more than 150 PGA golfers hit the challenging course at Pebble Beach to try and win a 72-hole championship event that can set the tempo for the season. In addition, 30 to 40 celebrities and notables from other sports accept the challenge of competing in the amateur portion of the tournament, entertaining dreams of making enough quality chips and putts to qualify for the final round of the tournament's pro-am.

Ray Romano ("Everybody Loves Raymond") and Kevin James ("The King of Queens") went to Pebble Beach an annual event. The HBO Sports special Ray Romano & Kevin James: Making The Cut takes viewers behind the scenes as they battle the course, the elements and the pressure when it debuts Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 9 p.m. on HBO.

The show features footage of the two playing in the tournament with PGA stars and celebrities, and captures their unique preparation methods and competitive nature, along with unscripted, humorous moments from their action-packed week in California.

Says James, "As an amateur golfer, it's the greatest experience because, even when you hook a ball into the other fairway, you get to apologize to guys like Freddy Couples."

"We all dream of playing centerfield for the New York Yankees in the World Series," says Romano. "Most people will never get that opportunity, yet for one day, if you make the cut at Pebble Beach, you can play in the final round of a major professional event."

The 68th Pebble Beach National Pro-Am was held February 9 through 13, 2005, and for the first time in history, Phil Mickelson was the leader wire-to-wire, carding a four-round score of 269, 19 shots under par.
