Pageant Girls on MTV

Tiara Girls, MTV’s latest News & Docs series, documents the surprisingly high-pressure world of beauty pageant contestants as they prepare and train for competition - even hiring special coaches for interviews and presentation – and manage the expectations to win. Find out what motivates these young women, the often significant role that parents play in guiding their children’s aspirations, how they deal with victory or loss, and explore their ultimate goals in living the life of a tiara girl. Tiara Girls premieres April 19, 2006 at 10:30 p.m. on MTV.

The Tiara Girls are:

NANCY – 16 year-old Nancy Mae Landry is competing in a pageant against her best friend Justine in a small Louisiana town where being a beauty queen means everything. Rivalry, jealousy, and grueling hours of preparation add to the tension and threaten to tear apart their lifelong friendship as they vie against each other for the coveted crown.

SABRA – Sabra Johnson has spent most of her 17 years collecting hundreds of titles thanks to her pageant-obsessed mom and mom’s relentless drive to turn Sabra into the next Miss America. Sabra is hard at work preparing for a special preliminary contest – and if she wins, it will be her ticket to the big-time world of state competition. But when mom starts pushing too hard and Sabra resists training for the first time – Sabra’s stubbornness may ultimately cost her the title she so desperately wants.

JAIME – Jaime is a sassy pageant girl whose parents will spend anything to help her win a title. But between her pro-active folks and her hardcore coaches -- it seems like everyone is on Jaime’s case all day and all night. Jamie’s tired of the relentless training and long hours of practice which often cause arguments to break out between her and her team. She wants a crown – but Jamie also wants everyone to stop telling her what to do!

MEGAN – Megan is making one last desperate run for her dream crown – Miss Iowa – before she ages out of the pageant system. But winning a pageant just to qualify for the state title is proving to be a lot harder than she ever expected. Everything needs work – from reducing her cellulite to honing her interview skills – and Megan’s dad and her coaches are brutally honest about it all. There will be a lot of tears along the way as Megan makes her final quest to be a queen.

KATARINA – It seems mom wants to win a crown even more than her 16 year-old daughter, Katarina. Mom signs up her daughter for everything from lip injections to body wraps – anything to help her get that extra edge. But Katarina gets fed up with mom’s constant criticism about her looks and ends up battling her every step of the way as she prepares for the biggest pageant of her life.

NATHALIE – 19 year-old Nathalie has won the title of Miss North Carolina Piedmont twice before and thinks she has it in the bag again this year – but her mom is worried about her weight. It’s a love/hate relationship. Nathalie loves spending mom’s cash on her pageant wardrobe – but hates it when mom comments on every calorie she eats. Nathalie will be working extra hard this season if she wants to make this special crown a threepeat.

APRIL – April passionately wants to win a pageant both for the attention and for the scholarship money that will help her finance her college tuition. April’s biggest challenge is lack of pageant experience. Compounding this issue is her penchant for rarely agreeing with her coach and often ignoring her advice. April is determined to find her own way to beat out the pageant veterans and become a queen.

BRENDA – Brenda is a highly competitive Texas teenager from a small border town who approaches pageants like she does sports – she plays to win. Now, Brenda’s hoping for a shot at the big leagues; if she wins the Miss Val Verde title she will qualify for a state-level pageant for the first time. Brenda’s got the looks but her interview skills (or lack thereof) could be her downfall – unless she finally gets serious and takes the advice of her coach about how to win the title of her dreams.

Each episode of Tiara Girls will be followed by an exclusive aftershow of deleted scenes and extended interviews available on MTV Overdrive, the network’s broadband channel (overdrive.mtv.com).
