Willa Holland

DePalma Daughter Cast on “The O.C.”

Willa Holland has been cast in the role of “Kaitlin Cooper,” Marissa’s sister, on THE O.C. Holland begins production this week and will appear in a multi-episode arc starting in early 2006. THE O.C. airs Thursdays (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

Holland’s character “Kaitlin Cooper," age 14, has returned to the THE O.C. during her winter break from an exclusive Montecito boarding school, bringing a lot of attitude and a few secrets of her own. Much more in the mold of her mother Julie Cooper than her sister Marissa, Kaitlin will wreak havoc, turn heads and introduce a darker, edgier element to the sun-drenched O.C.

“Willa is a real presence and a wonderful actress,” says THE O.C. creator and executive producer Josh Schwartz. “She can be sweet as a little girl, but also dangerous and much more self-possessed than her age would suggest. She seems like Mischa Barton's little sister and looks it, too. She's a real original, with the same sophisticated allure that Mischa possesses. She's going to break a lot of hearts."

Holland, age 14, can be seen modeling in campaigns for Guess, Gap, Abercrombie & Fitch and Ralph Lauren. She has been a guest star on "The Comeback" and appeared in the Fox pilot for "The Inside." Holland grew up in London and Los Angeles and is the stepdaughter of director Brian De Palma. She currently lives with her family in Los Angeles.

From Wonderland Sound and Vision and College Hill Pictures and in association with Warner Bros. Television Production Inc., THE O.C. is executive-produced by Josh Schwartz, Bob DeLaurentis and McG. Stephanie Savage serves as co-executive producer and Ian Toynton is supervising producer. The series stars Peter Gallagher (Sandy Cohen), Kelly Rowan (Kirsten Cohen), Benjamin McKenzie (Ryan Atwood), Mischa Barton (Marissa Cooper), Adam Brody (Seth Cohen), Melinda Clarke (Julie Cooper) and Rachel Bilson (Summer Roberts). Bob Marley & The Wailers :
Africa Unite: The Singles Collection

"Slogans," First New Official Bob Marley Recording In More Than A Decade, Plus Two New Remixes, Highlight Africa Unite: The Singles Collection Also Live! At The Rainbow Concert Homevideo Adds Caribbean Nights Documentary And Exclusive Extras For Its DVD Debut

In the year Bob Marley would have turned 60, the past, present and future of his music are celebrated not only with the first Bob Marley & The Wailers greatest hits package to include both his early sides and his Island Records hits but also a new recording and two new remixes.

Along with 17 vintage tracks, Africa Unite: The Singles Collection (Island/Tuff Gong/UMe), released November 8, 2005, spotlights "Slogans," the first new official Marley track released in more than a decade. It is believed Marley recorded the song in a Miami bedroom in 1979. The tapes were kept at Marley's mother's house and last year the reggae legend's sons Stephen and Ziggy revisited the acoustic demo. In 2005, Stephen overdubbed the tracks with other instruments, including guitar by Eric Clapton. Stephen and Ziggy produced "Slogans" specifically for this release.

Another new recording is a remix of "Africa Unite," whose original was heard on the 1979 album Survival. The song is presented here in an anthemic remix by will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas, who was personally invited to create the remix by Rita Marley, Bob's wife.

Also new is the Ashley Beedle Remix of "Get Up, Stand Up Vs. Jamrock," a mash-up of Bob's classic and "Welcome To Jamrock," the 2005 hit from youngest son Damian.Africa Unite: The Singles Collection commemorates Marley's life on record just as the 2005 Africa Unite concert in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on his 60th birthday (February 6) commemorated it on stage. Africa Unite: The Singles Collection includes the early classics "Soul Rebel," "Lively Up Yourself," "Trenchtown Rock" and "Concrete Jungle" alongside the Island hits "I Shot The Sheriff," "Get Up, Stand Up," "No Woman, No Cry," "Exodus," "Jamming," "Could You Be Loved," "One Love/People Get Ready," "Roots, Rock, Reggae," "Waiting In Vain," "The Sun Is Shining," "Is This Love," "Three Little Birds" and "Buffalo Soldier."

Also issued is the DVD premiere of Live! At The Rainbow in a two-disc package that adds to the 1986 concert homevideo more than 20 minutes of exclusive interviews and footage recently shot in Kingston, Jamaica, of a visit to The Bob Marley Museum and Tuff Gong Studios, plus the award-winning 1988 documentary Caribbean Nights: The Bob Marley Story. The latter includes interviews with family and friends, and rare archival footage, and has been augmented for this edition by 20-plus minutes of exclusive interviews and new video of Marley's birthplace and final resting place, Nine Mile. For the 1977 concert at London's Rainbow Theatre, the group performed quintessential versions of "No Woman, No Cry," "Lively Up Yourself," "Rebel Music" and more. For its DVD debut, Live! At The Rainbow's video has been digitally enhanced and its audio digitally remastered in both 5.1 Surround Sound and stereo. Marley's stature in music grows with each passing year. Africa Unite: The Singles Collection and Live! At The Rainbow continue his legacy. Posted by Picasa

Clinton on Nick News

In a Special Edition of Nick News With Linda Ellerbee: The Fight to be Fit, Former President Bill Clinton, award-winning journalist Linda Ellerbee, and a room full of kids talk about the barriers to getting fit and how kids might break them down. The program will air on Sunday, November 13, 2005 at 8:30 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon.

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation – a joint initiative of the William J. Clinton Foundation and the American Heart Association to prevent childhood obesity – recently entered into a partnership with Nickelodeon. The three organizations are combining forces on a comprehensive media and public awareness campaign to encourage young people to engage in healthy and active lifestyles. The special kicks off the effort and will engage kids to take an active part in building a movement combating obesity and promoting healthy lifestyles.

“The challenge is to persuade kids to care about their bodies now. One of the benefits of living fit is living a long time, but to kids, a long time is a long time from now. We tell them the truth: they need to care because in the end no one else may,” commented Ellerbee. “And they tell us what we can do to help them. The solutions to the obesity crisis—the health crisis facing kids in general—may be simple, but they’re not easy.”

“Spending time with these kids and participating in the Nick News special provided me with an opportunity to tell kids face to face that we need their generation to lead us in this fight to be healthy,” said President Clinton.

President Clinton candidly talks to kids during the special about the fact he was an overweight child. “I can identify with kids who have a problem controlling their weight and staying healthy. After my heart surgery, which was a wake-up call for me, I decided I needed to do something to help kids be healthier.”

He tells kids that later he began to exercise and got his weight down, but didn’t really change his eating habits until after his heart surgery in 2004. The kids, President Clinton and Ellerbee talk about what influences their decisions about eating; who chooses what they have for meals, if there are healthy choices in their cafeterias, whether junk food in school cafeterias should be banned (President Clinton thinks it should), whether the food industry has any responsibility for the rise in childhood obesity and related health problems, what part exercise plays in their lives (if any), whether they still have regular Physical Education in their schools (many do not), and the abundance of time today’s kids spend in front of their television sets, their computers and their video games (Ellerbee suggests turning off the TV more often).

The kids featured in the special include: 12-year-olds Tyler from Kansas, MO; Kim from Crystal Lake, IL; Cory from Morrison, CO; and Antonio from Dorchester, MA; 13 year-olds Adisa from Englewood, NJ; Jordan from Orange, CA; and Jessica from Roseville, CA; 14-year-olds Audrianna from Lexington, SC; Myll from Brookville, NY; and 15-year-old Allie from Roseville, CA. In the audience are kids from Long Island, NY’s Friends Academy, New York City’s KIPP Infinity Charter School, Grand Street School for Legal Studies and Young Women's Leadership School. The audience has an opportunity to ask President Clinton questions as well.

The special also highlights Chandler, a 13 year-old from Georgia, who started an initiative called AKA (Athletics Plus Kids Equals Academics) to increase awareness of childhood obesity, bring back PE classes in schools and provide healthier options in school cafeterias. Created in response to her school only allowing her to take PE for one semester, Chandler has visited and written letters to her state senators to ask them to make PE mandatory in schools and most recently addressed health and government officials, including the surgeon general, at the National Healthy Kids Summit in Washington, DC, where she was the only kid in attendance.

Also featured is the Children’s Health Improvement Program, a group of Latino kids from Chicago that promote health by going into communities and educating kids on diabetes prevention, reading food labels and the importance of exercise. Many of the kids in the group are struggling with their own weight and they know that Latinos are a high risk group for heart disease and diabetes.

Several experts in the fields of health and nutrition are also consulted for the Nick News special. Stephen Daniels, M.D., Chair of the American Heart Association’s Cardiovascular Disease in the Young committee and professor of pediatrics and environmental health at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, explains how kids are now developing what experts used to think of as “adult” illnesses and points out that African American and Hispanic kids are at greater risks for these. Kelly D. Brownell, Ph.D., director of the Yale Center for Eating and Weight Disorders and author of Food Fight, discusses how because we live in a world where food to satisfy these cravings is cheap and physical activity is lacking, it is difficult to make healthy choices. And Russell R. Pate, Ph.D., professor at the University of South Carolina in the department of exercise science, describes the importance of embracing a healthy lifestyle early in life.

The special will also air on Nickelodeon’s Cable in the Classroom on December 5, 2005 and December 21, 2005 at 6 a.m. (ET/PT), and stream on Nickelodeon’s online broadband video service, TurboNick, on Nov. 14. Lesson plans are also available on teachers.nick.com. Kids are encouraged to provide feedback on or about the Nov. 13 special by participating in an online poll and message boards on Nick.com and NickNews.com.

The new partnership of the William J. Clinton Foundation, the American Heart Association, also known as The Alliance for a Healthier Generation, and Nickelodeon’s “Let’s Just Play” pro-social initiative will provide the necessary tools to empower children and families to be agents of change in their communities through grassroots activities, events, and programming support through multiple media platforms. Spongebob's Gary

Gary’s Gone!

It’s a sad day in Bikini Bottom when SpongeBob learns that his beloved pet snail Gary is missing and that he may be at fault in the mollusk’s disappearance. In “Where’s Gary?,” a half-hour special premiering on Nickelodeon Friday, November 11, 2005 at 8 p.m. (ET/PT), Gary runs away from home after feeling neglected by SpongeBob and is “adopted” by a new owner. After realizing the error of his ways, SpongeBob sets out with his best friend Patrick to search high and low for his adored pet and bring him back to his rightful home.

Launched in July 1999, the Emmy-nominated series SpongeBob SquarePants has since emerged as a pop culture phenomenon and has held rank as one of the top kids’ shows on broadcast and cable television since its debut.

When SpongeBob SquarePants(voiced by Tom Kenny) forgets to feed Gary for several weeks while attempting to beat the paddle-ball world record, Gary becomes disillusioned and runs away from home. While living on the rough streets of downtown Bikini Bottom, the down-and-out snail is taken in by a strange but kindly old woman (voiced by Amy Poehler, Saturday Night Live) who mistakes him for one of her other beloved pets. One week later, when SpongeBob snaps out of his paddle-ball obsession, he realizes that he has forgotten to take care of Gary, who is now missing. With the help of his well-meaning but dim best friend Patrick, SpongeBob sets out on a town-wide search to find his pet mollusk and return him home. Meanwhile, as Gary is wrapped in comfy blankets and indulged in an endless assortment of snacks, he discovers a dark secret about this sweet old woman.

SpongeBob SquarePants has consistently been one of the top rated kids’ shows on television, with the Saturday play of the series ranking as the number one rated program among Kids 2-11. Nearly 53.7 million viewers tune into the show each month, making it the most watched show on Nickelodeon among Total Viewers (ages two and up) including 22.1 million Kids 2-11, 12.7 million Tweens 9-14 and 12.9 million Adults 18+. (Source: Nielsen Cume Data –May 2005). SpongeBob SquarePants’s adult viewers also continue to tune-in and have increased by 31% since the premiere of the show in 1999.

Nickelodeon is supporting the special with a month long off-air marketing campaign that includes print, outdoor and consumer product partner support. For five days leading up to the "Where’s Gary” premiere, kids can watch Nickelodeon and log onto Nick.com to enter the SpongeBob SquarePantsWhere’s Gary?" Sweepstakes. Every night on-air, Patchy the Pirate and other celebrity guests will search in different locations for Gary. By visiting Nick.com, kids can get a "Trail of The Snail" tracking card and enter the Patchy's search locations in order to be eligible to win the sweepstakes. The grand prize is a trip to the Nicktoons Studio to meet the production team of SSpongeBob SquarePants and the opportunity to sit in on a voice recording session with the cast.

Prior to the premiere of the "Where’s Gary?" special, Nickelodeon will offer a sneak peek and bonus coverage of the special on Nickelodeon's broadband online platform TurboNick, available on Nick.com.

Kids can also visit Nick.com where a snail-seeking undersea adventure awaits in the "Trail of the Snail" Flash game. In addition, on November 15, kids can pick up the SpongeBob SquarePants "Where's Gary" DVD at select retailers.

SpongeBob SquarePants is created and executive produced by Stephen Hillenburg, who previously worked as a writer, director and creative director on Nickelodeon’s animated series, Rocko’s Modern Life. Hillenburg graduated from the California Institute of the Arts with a master’s degree in Experimental Animation and studied marine biology and art as an undergraduate. Before beginning a career in animation, Hillenburg worked with kids as a science educator and staff artist at the Orange County Marine Institute. Hillenburg created and executive produced The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie which hit theaters in November 2004.

Paul Tibbitt served as a director and writer on SpongeBob SquarePants for all three seasons and is executive producer of the fourth. He wrote some of the show’s most memorable episodes such as “Ripped Pants” and “Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy.” Tibbitt is one of the co-writers and storyboard artists on The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. SpongeBob SquarePants is a Nicktoons Production and is produced at the Nicktoons Studio in Burbank, CA. Posted by Picasa
