Candidate Kerry’s Daughter and Other Fashion Focus Notes: Alexandra Kerry, filmmaker and daughter of U.S. Presidential candidate John Kerry, strolled the red carpet at last night's AFI Life Achievement Award, A Tribute to Meryl Streep in a cocktail dress by Monique Lhuillier. She selected a nude and black beaded cocktail dress with black satin halter neckline that criss-crossed at the base of the neck. The overlay was gorgeous…

as was Kate Beckinsale who went all-out glam, strapless, lightly printed empire waist dress, silver strappy sandals, just beautiful. Melanie Griffith chose very safe all black (hose, shoes, dress, purse, chiffon shawl). Charlize Theron never looks bad, she’s an always winning look – she chose a taupe top and skirt evening ensemble that was simple and elegant.

Goldie Hawn could’ve stopped traffic in the screaming orange lace front tank top and chiffon printed coordinating spring skirt.

Streep herself, chose a full skirted black dress with a white capelet knotted at the front. Very pretty and suitable.

Claire Danes, who the Star caught smooching with beau Bill Crudup in the park, wore a mermaid themed knee-length gown in shimmery blue-green-red shades, unique and lovely.

Arielle Kebbel, who stars in the much anticipated Be Cool with John Travolta, will wear a 1940's inspired dress by Elsie Katz Couture to tonight's premiere of "De-Lovely," starring Ashley Judd and Kevin Kline. She'll wear a cocoa floral silk-chiffon dress with ruched bodice and fishtail hem.

Prince Charles is parading his Camilla Parker-Bowles around. She was at the The Royal Gala Charity Performance of "Mamma Mia!" wearing a printed blue, yellow and turquoise pastel gown, with a triple strand pearl color and massive stone at the center, smiling happily.

New mommy Gwyneth Paltrow looked so pretty, with her long free-flowing curls and non-matching black skirt and top at the Taryn Simon: The Innocents at the Gagosian Gallery in London. She even had the bondage-y ankle wrapped black sandals, to complete her hot look.

Funeral March: Did you watch it today? It was inescapable – on nearly every network and cable news station. I marveled that Nancy Reagan is a (pardon the pun) dead ringer for a white version of my Filipina mother. One thing that was interesting (in addition to the many historical figures in attendance – and the security that must have been around the National Cathedral), was how all the women attendees, with the exception of Barbara Bush was pretty much wearing the same outfit, a black suitdress.

Death Watch: Speaking of death, our friend Melinda Marquez sent us this website http://www.deathclock.com/index.cfm, it predicts your death. Mine is January 19, 2051.

Dan Band: If you’re in NYC, you really must check out this truly funny show starring Dan Finnerty – a good time will be had by all, guaranteed. the dan band is coming to NEW YORK CITY

Potter’s Prisoner If you haven’t seen it yet, check out the latest Harry Potter film! All of us at BeansTalk highly recommend it. Here's our review:

Although it strays from the book, the basic premise and plot remain in the latest “Harry Potter” installment, “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.” Director Alfonso Cuaron takes a decidedly different approach. Where Chris Columbus (director of the first two films, producer of this one), was fairly faithful to the original source material, Cuaron not only veers somewhat, he also gives the film a completely different look than Columbus’ versions did. Cuaron’s Potter is much darker – the colors in the films are burgundies and grays, there’s a much more obvious sense of what’s lurking. The irony in all of this is that, without giving too much away, He Who Must Not Be Named doesn’t make an appearance in this film, and yet it is considerably more ominous and grim and Harry’s fate is more compelling than ever.

The acting in this is nearly perfect, from the three primary actors –Daniel Radcliff as Harry, Rupert Grint as Ron and Emma Watson as Hermoine – to the latest additions (David Thewlis as Professor Lupin, Emma Thompson as Professor Sybil Trelawney). Although in this film, Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) is just the slightest bit over the top – more attention may be called to this, partly because the rest of the cast stays so steadfastly true to the character.

Also spectacular are the special effects -- the Hippogriff is almost exactly as Rowling describes it in the book (although there’s only one in the film and several in the book). Too bad that some of the other creatures new professor Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane) brings to class don’t show up in the film. You see less of Professor Minerva McGonagall (Maggie Smith), nothing of Madame Pomfrey (Gemma Jones – whose character is key in the novel), or Madame Hooch (Zoë Wanamaker, who also figures prominently in the book). Even though he hasn’t yet returned (in the novels), I did long a little bit for my favorite character of the series, Dobby. I missed Fang, too.

Rowling brilliantly reveals more about Harry’s background and family, alludes to more, and always remains faithful to her characters, and “Prisoner” continues to tell the tale well.

For fans of the book and film, this film offers genuine surprises, is cleverly executed and wholly entertaining. It’s suitable save for the squeamish or those who might be frightened by even the soundtrack (as it lurkingly leads audiences around).

Summer and Sonya: One of our favorite skin-care lines is Sonya Dakar’s. We got a charmingly crafted, treat filled popcorn carton from her the other day. In addition to Milk Duds, Tootsie Pops, Twizzlers and Gummi Bears, Dakar included three of her top sellers, tied into summer blockbusters. Her vitamin enriched Aromasol Mist is a favorite of “Van Helsing” star Hugh Jackman and designed to repair, balance and tone skin. Dakar’s longtime client, Kirsten Dunst is a fan of the Seaweed Liposome Gel, a detoxifying concoction with anti-oxidants and vitamins – it’s used to control oil production and protect against environmental pollutants. And here’s one we didn’t know: Matt Damon of “The Bourne Supremacy” (which opens mid-July, despite the fact it was only filmed in November 2003) is also a fan. He uses 365 SPF 30 sunscreen. Unlike other sunscreens (and we’re speaking of experience, not a press release), this sunscreen doesn’t make your eyes tingle, doesn’t sit heavily on your face, smells great and most importantly, works. If you’re in Los Angeles, visit Dakar at her Beverly Hills facility or go to www.sonyadakar.com.

Deadwood: Our new favorite series, HBO’s “Deadwood,” is wrapping up its premiere season this Sunday, June 13, 2004 at 10 p.m. If you need to catch up, the cable network will show a marathon of the previous three episodes, starting at 8 p.m.

FASHION NOTES:

Pretty in PinkBoy, it seems like Sarah Jessica Parker has been out every night lately! She showed up at the The Fragrance Foundation's 32nd Annual Fifi Awards in a Oscar de la Renta dress and Fred Leighton necklace, bracelet and jewelry. The baby pink printed 50s influenced dress featured a fitted bodice and waist and two tiers of a full skirt.

At the same event as Parker, Lynn Whitfield also chose pink, but hers was a deep pink Nicole Miller dress, strapless with a single black band under the bosom area.

Both ladies wore their hair up in buns, in very 60’s “Down With Love” style.

Jessica Seinfeld, who looks like she must be majorly low-carby lately (not that she needed it), chose a strapless white-topped, black Narciso Rodriguez dress for the “Fifis.”

New mommy Cheryl Hines also was at the “Fifis,” and she chose a sexy plunging black Badgley Mischka dress.

Meanwhile, Petra Nemcova wore a silky, tropical-influenced (she even had an orchid in her hair, over her right ear, in case you were wondering) sheer silk dress with dramatic asymmetrical hem by Elie Sab, Brian Aturro shoes and Piaget jewelry.

Model Carolyn Murphy wore a soft seafoam blue Grecian-inspired Michael Kors dress, with detailed accents on the straps in the back of the dress. Even though the dress was “loose,” you could catch a glimpse of Murphy’s slender hipbones.

Sigourney Weaver chose a Michael Kors dress, in the same color as Murphy’s, but hers was even more fitted and beaded.

There were ruffles, ruffles everywhere on Aerin Lauder’s Tuleh chartreuse silk chiffon dress – ruffles on the thin straps, ruffles at the bodice, at the waist, on the asymmetrical him, all over. She accented the dress nicely with a gold minaudiere and gold strappy sandals.

Vera Wang wore a brown printed damask dress of her own design that featured something we’ve seen on Beyonce Knowles dresses (designed by mom Tina), gathers at the midway point from below the belly button to the knee. The skirt then flares out. The jury’s still out on this style.

Much was made of how little the “Queer Eye” guys were getting paid, but they must have gotten a bump in salary. Grooming expert Kyan Douglas was there in a Dolce & Gabbana suit.

Rebecca Rankin’s Carmen Marc Valvo dress was a late-60s early-70s cocktail party dream of a print dress, with its halter top, ivory background and giant red flowers.

It’s Miller Time : Nicole Miller dressed Melissa George of “Alias,” to the “Fahrenheit 911” special screening in Los Angeles. George chose an ivory washed jacquard jacket by millergirl with coordinating ivory washed jacquard cropped pants, also by millergirl. Millergirl is a modern interpretation of romanticism mixed with an edgy street element, say Miller’s reps. Collection fabrics include nouveau damask with washed raw edges, heavy jersey with fishnet appliqués and coated denim.

Kathryn Morris, of CBS' Cold Case, stepped onto the red carpet at last night's premiere of Steven Spielberg's The Terminal in a cocktail dress by Pamella Roland, a white strapless dress with satin tuxedo stripes down the side. Kathryn topped off her look with a necklace and silver crystal KIOSQUE bag by Swarovski.

Crystal Bling: One vendor at the Luxury Depot we attended last week was Hollywood Pin-Ups. Owner AmberLeVonne showed her crystal wares (check them out at www.hollywoodpin-ups.com). At the event, she showed “ Hello Kitty under the sea,” a one -of -a -kind clutch she designed. Actress Christina Milan took it to the world premiere of "The Chronicles of Riddick.” Ashlee Simpson, Traci Bingham, Nicole Eggert, Tia Carere, Christine Cox, as well as Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Sharon Osbourne and Halle Berry are all fans.

BBC America in August: Here’s the schedule of our favorite cable channel for the month of August:

THE KUMARS AT NO. 42 (U.S. premiere)
Part scripted sitcom, part improvised chat, part genuine interview, BBC AMERICA presents an all-new U.S. premiere award-winning talk show with a difference.

Meet The Kumars at No. 42, a typical Indian (albeit exaggerated) family living in North London, who have come across a unique method of ‘Keeping up with the Joneses’.

They have bulldozed their back yard and built a state-of-the-art TV studio from where they host their very own talk show.

Son Sanjeev (Sanjeev Bhaskar, Goodness Gracious Me) asks the questions while his mother Madhuri (Indira Joshi), father Ashwin (Vincent Ebrahim) and mischievous granny Sushila (Meera Syal, Goodness Gracious Me) interrupt the interviews from a nearby sofa, with wildly inappropriate and irrelevant questions.

Welcoming celebrity guests such as Richard E. Grant, Robson Green, Michael Parkinson, Donny Osmond, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen into their home, the celebrities run the gauntlet of meeting the family members.

Sanjeev, unmarried and still living at home, is a naïve about life. Madhuri is always plying guests with food and trying to get Sanjeev married off. Ashwin has a tendency to tell long, tedious stories and is obsessed with money. While feisty granny Sushila has a youthful zest for life and good-looking men.
The Kumars at No. 42 premieres Sundays from August 29 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

TRAILER PARK BOYS (Season premiere)
Welcome to Sunnyvale Trailer Park, a low-rent, blue-collar district on the outskirts of the Canadian town of Halifax and home to an all-new season of BBC AMERICA’s new spoof documentary comedy.

A smash hit in Canada where it airs on Showcase, Trailer Park Boys focuses on a community at the margins of society, a place where crime and petty rivalries flourish but where love, friendships and families also have a home.

At the heart of the community are Ricky (Robb Wells) and Julian (John Paul Tremblay), two guys whose lives were shaped growing up in the trailer park. They might love fast cars, talking dirty and living on the edge of the law – but no matter how much trouble they get into, or how isolated and ostracized they become, they never stop trying to do the right thing.

As the new season gets underway, it’s a case of deja-vu for the likable rogues as they emerge from prison once again to be greeted by faithful buddy Bubbles (Mike Smith). But this time around things are going to be different at Sunnyvale Trailer Park.

The days of nickel and dime scams are over. It’s time to go big or go home. Julian has a plan – the guys are getting professional. It’s called “Freedom 35” and it calls for Ricky to grow as much of his awesome dope as he can which Julian will then sell to prisons across the country through his prison guard contacts. In return they’ll make a trailer full of cash - enough to let them retire early and stay out of crime forever.
Trailer Park Boys new season premieres Thursdays from August 19 at 9:00 p.m. ET, 11:00 p.m. PT.

FAKING IT (season premiere)
From choir girl to rock chick, bicycle courier to polo player and chess player to soccer manager, the emotional roller-coaster of almost implausible transformations returns in an all-new U.S. premiere season of BBC AMERICA’s multi-awarding winning Faking It.

A battle against the odds, Faking It charts the progress of five more heroes, plucked from their natural habitats, to take up the challenge of completely changing their identities. With the help of three experts, they have just 28 short days to acquire the skills necessary to convince a panel of professionals they are the real McCoy with a wealth of background knowledge – and not just a faker with a month’s experience under their belt.

Winner of the inaugural Golden Rose of Montreux for reality TV – the highest accolade in European TV – an International Emmy and a BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television), season three promises to be every bit as dramatic and emotional as the first.

Malcom “Woody” Woodcock, a bicycle courier from Manchester has just four weeks in which to pass himself off as a polo player. Not only will he need to learn how to ride a horse, plus all the shots rules and tactics, he’ll also have to undergo quite a major image makeover – the piercings will have to go along with the ponytail…

Laura-Jane Foley is a 20-year-old Christian choirgirl who’s never been to a rock-concert and doesn’t believe in sex before marriage. It will take a few prayers in the church of rock ‘n’ roll to transform this straight-laced student into a sassy rock chick from hell.

And as the award-winning Faking It returns, Faking It Changed My Life – Part 2 looks back on the last season and follows up on some of the remarkable developments in the lives of the participants. Some of the ‘fakers’ have simply gained new hobbies, made new friends, or just realized they’re happy with things how they are. But others have had their lives turned upside down.
Faking it Changed My Life – Part 2 premieres Sunday, August 15 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. A new season of Faking It premieres Sundays from August 22 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT.

PRIME SUSPECT (Channel premiere)
Internationally acclaimed actress and two-time Academy Award nominee Helen Mirren (Calendar Girls, Gosford Park) stars as tough-talking Detective Superintendent Jane Tennison in the multi-award winning thriller, Prime Suspect.

Working in the seedy underworld of prostitution, pornography, sickening abuse, serial killings and abduction, three seasons of the critically acclaimed drama are all set for their channel premiere on BBC AMERICA this summer.

Winner of the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding mini-series, the third season of Prime Suspect sees DCI Jane Tennison transferred to a new station with the job of “cleaning up the streets” of Soho. But it’s not long before Jane and her new team find themselves involved in the dark world of vice investigating the mystery of a young male prostitute burnt to death in the apartment of a frightened transsexual.

In the fourth season of the critically acclaimed drama, Jane Tennison finds herself newly promoted to Detective Superintendent, assigned to spearhead a number of major inquiries including the death of a baby, copycat killings and the death of a manager at an exclusive suburban country club.

And in the Emmy award-winning fifth season, DS Jane Tennison has been relocated to Manchester to investigate a drug related murder. Encountering a corrupt reprobate who rules over the local crime scene and believing him to be her prime suspect, Jane discovers her every move in the investigation anticipated – but how?
Prime Suspect airs Mondays from August 9 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

MY HERO (Season premiere)
Award-winning comedian Ardal O’Hanlon (Father Ted) returns as George Sunday – aka down-to-earth superhero Thermoman – still trying to save the world as he adapts to the subtleties of life on Earth in an all-new season of the Montreux comedy finalist, My Hero.

George Sunday is Thermoman, from the planet Ultron, dashing from one catastrophe to another as he juggles two jobs: superhero and health food storeowner. It’s hard to know which causes him more problems – diverting meteorites or pretending he is just an ordinary guy.

George’s life took a wonderful turn when he fell in love with Janet Dawkins, a nurse from Earth. Janet is in on the secret, of course, but his behavior appears most peculiar to her parents and colleagues. Because George is not too familiar with Earth customs, he is often embarrassingly honest and tends to take everything too literally. And that’s not to mention his strange habit of suddenly vanishing every time he is needed to save the world.

The subtleties of human behavior are more confusing than ever before for alien George. Problems facing the man from planet Ultron and his human wife include a misguided attempt to fake his own death to collect on the life insurance; electoral success when he runs for mayor on a refreshingly honest ticket; a space virus fatal to humans; their baby son suddenly becoming a 19-year-old girl; meddling with the space-time continuum; and George becoming a surrogate mother.
New season premieres Wednesdays from August 18 at 7:00 p.m. ET, 10:00 p.m. PT.

MESSIAH (U.S. premiere original series)
Two disturbing murders… no motive – so begins a complex and shattering story of treachery and revenge in BBC AMERICA’s taut psychological thriller, Messiah.

Ken Stott (The Vice, The Singing Detective) stars as DCI Red Metcalfe, a brilliant detective who once turned in his own brother for murder. Ten years later, Red has earned a reputation for his impressive ability to get into the minds of killers – but two disturbing murders on the same day spark the most baffling and damaging case of his career. Both killings bear the murderer’s trademark – as do the grisly deaths that follow: the victim’s tongue is cut out and a silver spoon is inserted in their mouth.

As the killings mount up, Red is taunted by the fact that he can find no motive, no pattern – nothing to connect the victims apart from the killer’s grisly trademark.

As the killings continue, cracks begin to appear in Red’s handpicked team – young fast-tracker Jez (Jamie Draven), newcomer Kate (Frances Grey) and cynical Duncan (Neil Dudgeon).

As the murderer stays effortlessly ahead, killing seemingly random victims in new and ever more creative ways, it becomes clear that Red is confronted with evil beyond even his own experience. When a pattern at last starts to emerge, what began as a murder hunt turns into Red’s worst nightmare…
Part one of Messiah premieres Monday, July 26 at 9:00 p.m. ET, 9:20 p.m. PT. Part two premieres Monday, August 2 at 9:00 p.m. ET, 9:20 p.m. PT.

NY Facility Offers Supplementary Breast Cancer Treatments : Breast Cancer Treatment Services are offered at NYC’s Sea Change Healing Center.

Sea Change Healing Center in Manhattan presents a number
of services offered as complements to traditional breast cancer treatments. (We at BeansTalk aren’t advocating alternatives to traditional treatments, but want you to be aware of what’s out there – use your own judgement). Modalities include NETWORK SPINAL ANALYSIS (NSA), NATUROPATHIC MEDICINE, ACUPUNCTURE, toxin-eliminating LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE MASSAGE, and SOMATO RESPIRATORY
INTEGRATION (SRI. In honor of October, Breast Cancer
Awareness Month, Sea Change Healing Center is offering
a 20 % discount for new patients, for the initial
treatment of one of these wellness services. For more
information, visit www.seachangehealing.com, or call
212-889-7300.

HOW THEY WORK:

After the stress of a diagnosis and treatment of
breast cancer, NETWORK SPINAL ANALYSIS (NSA) and
SOMATO RESPIRATORY INTEGRATION (SRI) both provide an
integral role in healing. They restore both the body
and mind to a state of wholeness and balance, allowing
the body’s innate healing abilities to lead the
bodymind into complete wellness. Through specific
low-force touches to the spine, NETWORK SPINAL
ANALYSIS (NSA) assists the brain in developing new
strategies to eliminate and adapt to daily stress.
NSA helps dissipate tension from the spine and nerves
and helps the brain reconnect to the body’s natural
rhythms. The accompanying SOMATO RESPIRATORY
INTEGRATION (SRI) uses respiratory techniques to bring
internal rhythms into balance and wellness.

NATUROPATHIC MEDICINE treats the whole person,
focusing on prevention and working to restore and
support the body’s own powerful healing mechanisms by
using techniques that are in harmony with natural
processes. At Sea Change, Dr. Maria Ciuferri’s
approach to breast cancer prevention includes the use
of herbs, nutritional supplements, hydrotherapy,
homeopathic remedies and dietary and lifestyle
counseling to restore the imbalances from the disease
state or choice of treatment.

When ACUPUNCTURE is customized to a specific patient’s
needs, it can be used to treat nausea and body pains,
gives a boost to the immune system, as well as provide
emotional support to calm and relax the body and mind,
and ease bouts of depression or anxiety that are
common among one who’s been diagnosed with Breast
Cancer.

LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE MASSAGE is a gentle, rhythmic,
full-body massage designed to accelerate the functions
of the lymph system. This type of massage accelerates
and helps remove connective tissue of inflammatory
wastes and toxins, enhances the activity of the immune
system; reduces pain and facilitates the healing of
injuries, edema and post-surgical conditions. Many
post-operative symptoms are alleviated and the side
effects of Chemotherapy and Radiation are lessened
after receiving a Lymphatic Drainage Massage. Sea
Change also offers a DUO DRAINAGE LYMPHATIC MASSAGE,
in which two massage therapists work side by side, at
the same time, on the client. Lymphatic Drainage is
the only form of massage treatment recommended by
cancer specialists for breast cancer patients.

"For Sarah Wynter who loves to swim in her home pool, the Hair Clearifier worked wonders on getting rid of accumulated chlorine and other residue build up in her hair,” says Susan Kelber, key hairstylist at FOX-TV’s "24". “I also like using the O2 Originals line and use the Direct Volume Foam spray on myself.

Danny Goldstein at "CSI" says, "What I found worked well was the Renewal Hair Therapy polish which I used on Gary Dourdan to restoring moisture to dry hair. I also used the Urban Potions Texturizing Spray on our lead actress Marg Helgenberger to give it a light hold. But what I found truly great was the Crème Parfait Mousse that I used for Jorja Fox. Other mousse products I’ve used do not create any shine to hair. But with its ultra thick formulation for volume and texture, the Crème Parfait left Jorja’s hair gleaming."

Scruples' O2 Originals is specially infused with 300% more oxygen than any other product in the market. The distinctly unprecedented formulation enables the hair to absorb more of the vigorously active nutrients resulting in ultra healthy hair. The Urban Potions group is set of styling aids; while Blazing is the sulfate-free products that preserve vibrancy of color-treated hair and enhance body and shine. Scruples products are charged with the exclusive Protective Barrier Complex to strengthen the hair shaft, replenish moisture to leave it with a silky, shiny finish and powerful ultraviolet inhibitors to protect hair from sunlight as well as harmful environmental pollutants.

Scruples products have been used on Jennifer Garner, Colin Farrell, Keiffer Sutherland, David Boreanaz, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Sarah Wynter, Alyssa Milano, Courtney Thorne Smith, Debra Messing, Stockard Channing and Tiffani Thiessen. Key hairstylists on "Alias", "CSI", "Will & Grace", "24", "ER", "The West Wing" and "Six Feet Under" are fans.

Style Notes: Natalie Portman, despite her youth and alluring beauty, has chosen not to mark her style in low-cut jeans and barely there tops. Instead, she always looks pretty and elegant, but with a hint of sexiness that isn’t in your face, a la every other young actress. She’s just classy. She was out last night at the Premiere of Drive-In Movies at the Rock - Garden State Screening at NY’s Rockefeller Center, wearing a turquoise print wrap dress (sort of early 80s inspired), that was just a little bit shorter than the dresses it was influenced by, with tangerine slingbacks.

Sadie Frost is very determined it seems to be very voluptuous and happy, despite her divorce from Jude Law (she’ll show him, dating that 21-year-old!). She was out at Glamour Women Of The Year Awards 2004 in London in a deep-gold silk satin dress in which she vamped and smiled widely. The dress featured a mermaid hem and train.

Kristin Davis is making the most of her post-“Sex in the City” days. She was out at the fashion awards the night before last, and last night, she was at "Style in the City" Weatherproof Garment Company's Spring 2005 Collection at the Cellar Bar at the Bryant Park Hotel in NYC. She wore a sweetly fitted chocolate spring dress with ribbon criss-cross accents across the bodice and looked lovely.

Meryl Streep showed up in a blousy ivory silk satin blouse, and newly very close cropped hair (think Edie Falco) at the amfAR's Fifth Annual Tribute To The Pioneers In The Fight Against AIDS in New York.

Can you believe that Hello Kitty! Is 30? Yup, Hello Kitty had its 30th Anniversary party at NY’s Rockefeller Center, with such illuminaries as Betsy Johnson, Lisa Loeb, Kathy Hilton and Tamia. Kathy’s daughter Nicky Hilton even sported a baby-blue sundress with Hello Kitty appliqués at the bosom and around the ruffled hem!

What They’re Wearing:
The CDFA were a bevy of the famous in super designer fashions.

Michael Kors is HOT. Out last night wearing Hollywood’s fave designer: Fantasia Barrino in a slinky gold beaded gown, Kristin Davis in a very light beige silk and velvet damask gown, Heidi Klum in a gorgeous tangerine silk number (she carried Judith Leiber rectangle minaudiere in gold crystals $1,045), Carolyn Murphy in a super sexy bandeau bikini topped black evening gown (who carried a Judith Leiber curved sided minaudiere in rhine crystals $1,365), Molly Sims wore a patterned purple fitted halter which turned into lavender fringe at the hips (she carried a Judith Leiber slim minaudiere in rhine crystals $1,235), and Liya Kebede

Sarah Jessica Parker, who loves and is suited to that vintage look, wore an actual vintage dress from the 1950's designed by Howard Green, her favorite Manolo Blahnik shoes with a Fred Leighton jewelry pin in hair. Parker’s dress featured a salmon silk halter top with black lace overlay and huge full ankle-length tulle fantasy skirt.

Mandy Moore opted for form-fitting Calvin Klein in black silk.

Beyonce Knowles, ever faithful to her mother, wore a dress designed by Tina Knowles. The Grecian-themed dress was Big Bird yellow, excessive and fitted, with a mermaid hem, and silver toned accents. Donna Karan chose a similiarly colored gown.

Susan Sarandon chose a Donna Karan dress, in silk chiffon, with ruffles and ridges of fushia, and a perfectly matching beaded bag.

Newlywed Selma Blair wore Isaac Mizrahi -- NOT for Target. Her deep tangerine halter top featured a hot pink bandeau and ended with a long skirt of light orange.

Theodora Richards and Alexandra Richards both H Hilfiger dresses, one in a black silk strapless sheath and the other in a gold loose topped halter (and a matching gold Fendi bag)

Karolina Kurkova wore a dress by Azzedine Alai – the designer made famous by Alicia Silverspoon’s “Cher” character in “Clueless.” Kurkova’s was soft peach, above the knee with metallic straps and belt.

Michelle Hicks chose an ivory silk J. Mendel dress with angled rounded seams and insets.

Eve wore a tie-dyed poncho styled floofy J. Mendel dress with fur at the wrists, and gold shoes by Edmundo Castillo

Melania Knauss, on fiancé Donald Trump’s arm, wore a black silk slinky Roberto Cavalli dress

Jill Hennessy –who bears a certain resemblance to a famous first lady (that would be Jackie Kennedy)-- was wearing a dress by Oleg Cassini that the designer styled after a gown he designed for Jackie, that was a favorite of hers.

Anna Wintour chose Chanel, a white geometric designed top with black accent and a skirt ladened with details for the 2004 CFDA Fashion Awards

Aerin Lauder chose a black peek-a-boo 60s-sylted Gucci dress for the CFDA.

Alek Wek, like Klum, chose a tangerine silk, halter topped dress, hers designed by David Meister

Radha Mitchell’s Carmen Marc Valvo was champagne silk, strapless and elegant.

Cynthia Rowley wore a dress designed John Bartlet (not one of her own!), and it was a barely there ivory print chemise, backless halter with kerchief hem. She also donned an orchid over her right ear.

Jacquetta Wheeler wearing a dress designed by Peter Som

Jessica Seinfeld wore a traditionally styled spaghetti strapped black silk dress designed by Narcisco Rodriguez, with a mermaid hem and slight train.

Martha Stewart chose an outfit by Ralph Rucci featuring a huge white silk jacket over black silk pants and a unique tube-like evening bag.

Natalie Portman hugged designer Zac Posen whose printed bronze mini beaded dress she wore, with perfectly coordinating pointy toed pumps.

We Love Patti Pagliei’s Jewelry: And apparently, so does actress Christina Cox, who wore Pagliei Collection’s “Electra” short triple strand shell earrings in gold to "The Chronicles of Riddick" premiere June 3, 2004.

Have What It Takes to Be a Castaway?? : Boarding has begun for TBS's new reality series THE REAL GILLIGAN'S ISLAND as the network hosts open casting calls in various regions of the country. Producers will travel to six different locations over the next month to find real-life people who fit the profiles of the original cast.
The following is a complete schedule for THE REAL GILLIGAN'S ISLAND open casting call:
Saturday, June 12 Wichita 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Sunday, June 13 Pratt, Kansas 8 a.m.-1 p.m.
Saturday, June 19 Boston 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Thursday, June 24 Tampa 2-10 p.m.
Sunday, June 27 Miami 2-10 p.m.
Saturday, July 10 Los Angeles 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

THE REAL GILLIGAN'S ISLAND is a new reality series based on the popular sitcom about seven stranded castaways. The new show will feature a group of people who personify the original "Gilligan's Island": a real-life skipper, first mate, millionaire couple, movie star, Kansas farm girl and professor, who, as on the 1960's sitcom, will work together to try to get off the island. Episodes will be modeled after some of the situations that occurred in the original series.

While the producers encourage auditioners to come dressed as their "castaway of choice," neither costumes nor dead-on physical resemblance is a requirement. Producers are looking for people whose true-life experience mirrors that of the passengers of the original S.S. Minnow, such as an authentic Kansas farm girl, a real skipper or an actual professor. Anyone who is interested in participating, but unable to attend an open call, may also log onto www.tbs.tv or call the toll-free casting hotline at 888-634-4550 for an application and address where they can submit tapes by Wednesday, June 30.

THE REAL GILLIGAN'S ISLAND, set to premiere on TBS in Fourth Quarter 2004, is executive-produced by Mike Fleiss (The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, High School Reunion). The creator of the original Gilligan's Island sitcom, Sherwood Schwartz, and his son, Lloyd Schwartz, will also serve as executive producers.

Must See TV: We like to keep you updated on TV (which we’re addicted to) and what’s good out there. VH1 Classics cable channel is probably the only place to see obscure videos you’ve always wanted to see or haven’t seen in forever. Just this a.m. they did their usual Tuesday Two Play, with a double bill of Squeeze songs and Elvis Costello (“Oliver’s Army” and “The Other Side of Summer”) – btw, great website: http://www.elviscostello.info. You may have to sit through repeated Van Halen’s videos, but it’s almost worth it to catch some of the true classics.

Oliver's Army

Don't start me talking
I could talk all night
My mind goes sleepwalking
While I'm putting the world to right
Called careers information
Have you got yourself an occupation?
Oliver's army is here to stay
Oliver's army are on their way
And I would rather be anywhere else
But here today
There was a checkpoint Charlie
He didn't crack a smile
But it's no laughing party
When you've been on the murder mile
Only takes one itchy trigger
One more widow, one less white nigger
(Chorus)
Hong Kong is up for grabs
London is full of Arabs
We could be in Palestine
Overrun by a Chinese line
With the boys from the Mersey and the Thames and the Tyne
But there's no danger
It's a professional career
Though it could be arranged
With just a word in Mr. Churchill's ear
If you're out of luck or out of work
We could send you to Johannesburg

Boy We’re Glad We’re Not Working for a Tabloid Anymore:
Reuters today noted:
"It's clearly based on impulse and passion and it's a disaster. At the rate she's going, she's going to use up half of Hollywood by 2010."

We Wish They’d Find It Already:

WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia (Reuters) - Scientists are unlikely to find one magic pill for shedding pounds and an effective obesity-fighter may not help people lose weight, but rather just move it elsewhere on their bodies, researchers said on Friday.

Even though a person's weight would stay the same, a shift of body fat away from the waistline would make him or her healthier because extra abdominal fat is linked to higher risks of heart attacks and strokes.

That may disappoint some people in a society seemingly obsessed with looking thin and could dampen interest in such a drug, scientists said.

"It will take some education ... if there's an anti-obesity drug that may not change your body weight but makes you healthier," Andrew Swick, director of metabolic diseases for drug giant Pfizer Inc., said at an obesity conference sponsored by Time magazine and ABC News in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Researchers have focused on the goal of helping people shed pounds. But "what are the real clinical benefits? Are we saving cases of diabetes? Are we saving cases of (heart attacks)?" asked Jean Pierre Despres, director of cardiology research at Laval Hospital Research Center in Quebec.

Obesity is a growing health problem. Nearly two-thirds of people in the United States are overweight and half of them are considered obese, according to government statistics. Obesity raises the risk of heart attacks, some cancers and other health problems and adds billions of dollars to health-care costs.
Past efforts to develop diet drugs have yielded mixed results. The "fen-phen" cocktail was pulled from the market amid worries it could cause heart damage.

Using drugs to treat obesity likely will require a combination of medicines hitting different targets that tell the body to lose weight, said Peter Corr, Pfizer's senior vice president for science and technology.

Researchers are studying signals in the brain that make people hungry and others in the gut that tell the brain the stomach is full. Other approaches include trying to block absorption of certain foods or stimulating metabolism.

"We shouldn't think there's going to be a magic pill out there," Corr said.

Pfizer is studying more than 40 molecular targets associated with weight gain, Corr said. Two medicines are being tested in people and others are in early animal studies.

In one case, Pfizer created mice that lacked a gene involved in regulating body weight. Mice without the gene ate as much as mice with the gene, but the ones without the gene gained less weight, Swick said.

Pfizer is trying to develop a drug that mimics that effect

Notes : What a weekend for news: the death of the 40th president, Ronald Reagan who introduced contemporary conservatism to the country, and the third marriage of Jennifer Lopez, who wed a week after her now-husband’s previous marriage was dissolved. One of the nicest interviews we’ve done was with the former Mrs. Marc Anthony, Dayanara Torres, who was shockingly sweet, given that she obviously was beautiful her entire life.

Jennifer Lopez Chooses Neil Lane: We know she’s a fan of Martin Katz Jewelry, but on her wedding day, she opted for Los Angeles darling Neil Lane: When only the best would do, Jennifer Lopez called on diamond jeweler Neil Lane for her important day. The gorgeous performer was decked in head to toe diamonds valued at $5 million dollars. The secret bride wore a 100-carat diamond necklace and 10- carat diamond drop earrings, diamond bracelet, along with diamonds in her hair. New hubby, Marc Anthony also busted out the bling in diamond cufflinks.

Peldon Pushed Out?: Boy, if Sofia Coppola, muse to Marc Jacobs, showed up wearing someone other than Jacobs, would they treat her this way?? When Courtney Peldon showed up to Dior’s event as an invited guest, she was asked: “Is That a Dior?” She answered “No, it’s a Costume National.” While inside the party, in the middle of a conversation with her co-star Jake Hoffman (son of Dustin Hoffman; Adam & Eve – Produced by Michael Douglas), Dior officials sent security to physically remove her.

Peldon, not known for wearing Haute Couture, stunned press photographers, promoters, and the Dior representatives by wearing a spectacular piece by Costume National, and a dazzling pair of Stuart Weisman shoes. Courtney left the party in tears, and wondering why they would disrespect her so much. “They approved me on the guest list, I went through the press line, then they let me in the party, yet they physically removed me in an abusive way. I demand an apology from Dior.”

Peldon stars in HBO’s “The Entourage” debuting July 18, 2004 and in the Michael Douglas-produced “Adam and Eve, alongside the sons of famous actors Dustin Hoffman (Jake Hoffman), Michael Douglas, and the nephew of Jack Klugman.

Aussie Designer on Red CarpetBrittany Daniels wore a dress by leading Australian designer Collette Dinnigan for the 2004 MTV Movie Awards on Saturday, June 5, 2004 in Los Angeles. Ms. Daniels wore a sexy black backless pressed-metal tulle halter dress.

Bette Baby: Despite the compition, Bette Midler gets our vote for prettiest at the red-carpet premiere of “Stepford Wives” this summer, choosing a white cotton skirt and a lacy black sweater, with super high heeled strappy sandals to coordinate. Her hair looks great, too.

Call Her Crazy. Go Ahead.: Anne Heche had quite the ensemble on at the Tony Awards. It was the kind of dress that doesn’t miss a beat. We think it's a little Alexander McQueen. Lavender silk, it involved so many different styles and themes, it’s barely describable. The bottom, a mermaid tail, was finished in fringe-like feathers.

Royal Colors: Edie Falco and her great haircut looked beautiful in a bright purple silk halter dress at the Tonys.

Renee Zellweger is still donning “Down With Love” style vintage-themed garb, with a huge white silk chiffon skirt, topped with a black strapless bustier.

Sarah Jessica Parker looked beautiful in an updated 60s-style A-lined chiffon white dress, that featured a strapless bustier, accented with a beautiful jewelled brooch. She wore black strappy sandals and carried a black evening bag.

Nicole Kidman went for a completely unique look, in an aubergine printed halter dress, sleekly fitted and the unusual choice of a rather large white silk bag.

Scarlett Johansson is really ready to give fashionista Chloe Sveigny a run for her money. At the Tonys, Johansson chose a black classically styled dress with straps (about 1 ½” thick) and a train. What was most her own touch was her marcel curled hair, and red lips, very 20s style. The day before, Johansson was in L.A. for the MTV awards, and chose a yellow tank under an early 90s Madonna black silk ensemble, replete with pointy toed black pumps with multiple straps

At Virgin Cola's MTV Movie Awards - After Party held at Fame @ Xes, Brittany Murphy wore the popular this summer all white silk suit top, showing off her slenderness. She paired the look up with silver shoes and a silver bag.

Bijou Phillips (at that event) chose not only to let her hair go long, but to wear a sage seafoam green lingerie style dress, very pretty.

Meanwhile, Ashlee Simpson decided to wear a Zandra Rhodes style outfit, very Dynasty in theme. Colors (olive and chocolate and sage) were nice, though.

Christine Taylor (who we’re looking forward to seeing in “Dodge Ball”) looked FRIGHTENLY too thin in a white tank and pants at Vintage Hollywood 2004 held at a private residence in Los Angeles.

While her mom Sharon Osbourne opted for her standard elegant black pantsuit, Kelly Osbourne, out from re-hab, chose tie up the leg shoes, a black strapless satin silk with a full skirt and hot pink bow accents at the bottom for the The 15th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. She’s gone back to the Fudge colors, wearing a bright red accent of color on her bangs.

Paris Hilton presented an MTV award in a tangerine satin bias-cut gown with chiffon trim at the bottom by Elsie Katz Couture. The gown featured an open back with an antique gold and crystal clip at the top.

Carmen Elektra chose hot-pink silk for the MTV Awards – and looked beautiful.

Long locked Halle Berry (battling in divorce with Eric Benet) wore a gold quilted pantsuit.

Kate Beckinsale’s big 80s hair look like it weighed more than she did, so tiny did she look in her tight fitted black capris and blouse. She looked top-heavy -- and we love our Kate.

Sharon Stone and Christina Aguilera (still with the mop top of curls) vamped with each other – Aguilera in white silk and Stone is a beautiful pink frock. Stone’s dress was designed by Elsie Katz Couture and featured a plunging v-neck and lavender lace godets at the hem.

Judith Leiber bags were popular at the Tonys: Sanaa Lathan -Judith Leiber minaudiere in gold crystals $1,365 and Jane Krakowski, in a sexy baby blue gown accented it with a coordinated Judith Leiber Minaudiere in light blue $1,095

The very nice Maria Menounos wore a bright green empire top with major 70s palazzo pants in white.

Nicky Hilton has gone from darker than her blonde sister Paris, to jet black hair, which contrasted against her baby blue accented mini gown

Thandi Newton (in peach) and Lindsay Lohan (in turquoise) were just a few of the stars out this weekend in strappy dresses with kerchief hems.

Samaire Armstrong, who loves the one-of-a-kind look, chose majorette white boots (yes, with tassle), a suspendered multi ruffled bronze skirt and baby pink ruffled strapped tank, and an 80s leather patchwork purse.

Backstage, Uma Thurman looked amazing in jeans and white shirt, under a Channel hot pink tweedy jacket with large ruffled edges.

Arielle Kebbel stepped out on the red carpet at last night's premiere of The Stepford Wives in a dress by Shalini, choosing a white cowl neck knee-length cocktail dress.

”Jewel” of a Performer: Singer/songwriter/tattoo-skulled Daniel Cartier is leaving his Cape Cod
home this summer to zoom out to Silverlake's Cavern Club (1920 Hyperion Avenue, Silverlake, CA) on June 16 - 17 and then back again on June 23 - 24. In between those dates, Daniel is playing San Diego's Adams Avanue Arts Festival (8204 Adams Avenue, San Diego) on June 22nd. Cartier gears up for late September's national retail release of his self-produced album Revival (Endurance Music), which has been recently released to the internet only. www.danielcartier.com

Dino’s Back: Dean Martin's music is enjoying a new wave of chart success. Dino: The Essential Dean Martin, released June 1 by Capitol Records, shot into iTunes' Top 5 Top Digital Download Albums chart on Friday, June 4, joining new releases from Avril Levigne, Alanis Morissette, Modest Mouse and John Williams' Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban score among the day's
chart-toppers.

The release of Dino: The Essential Dean Martin marks the first
collection to fully encompass 30 of Martin's chart-topping hits and signature songs, culled from his Capitol Records (1949-1961) and Reprise Records (1960-1969) repertoire. The set includes the #1 single "Everybody Loves Somebody," the song that knocked the Beatles "A Hard Days Night" from the top in August 1964, and other perennial favorites, "That's Amore," "Ain't That A Kick In the Head," "Little Old Wine Drinker Me," "Volare" and "Sway."

When asked for her take on Dino's iTunes success, Dean Martin's
Daughter Gail Martin replied, "It's because he's still cool." Dino's liner notes, penned by Stevie Van Zandt, includes this recollection of Dino's style, "He was the coolest dude I'd ever seen, period. Dino represented a traditional style that would prove to be timeless, even if after 1964 it would never be mainstream again."

Martin began singing professionally in Ohio's ballrooms in the 1940s. He built a loyal following and moved on to the supper clubs and cabarets of New York City during World War II. He signed to Capitol Records when he and Jerry Lewis, known together as the comedic duo Martin & Lewis, stormed Hollywood in 1949. Martin's meteoric rise to fame made him a big-screen draw and landed him acclaimed acting roles alongside John Wayne and Marlon Brando. He left Capitol in 1961 to join Frank Sinatra at his new imprint, Reprise Records. Dean Martin's birthday is today: Monday, June 7. Born in 1917, he would have turned 87 years old today. Turner Classic Movies (TCM) honors Dean's birthday today by airing 3 of his classic films back to back between 1pm ET and 8pm ET: Some Came Running (1958), Bells Are Ringing (1960) and Ada (1961). Through June 30, Dean Martin fans can enter to win the new Dino: The Essential Dean Martin CD at www.turnerclassicmovies.com.

Corr’s Latest: Atlantic recording group The Corrs have returned to the global music scene in grand style with the release of their eagerly awaited new album, "BORROWED HEAVEN." With its U.S. release set for tomorrow, June 8th, the collection has already debuted at #1 in the band's native Ireland, #2 in the UK, top five in Australia, Holland, and Japan, and is on track for more top-charting premieres this week. "BORROWED HEAVEN" is the quartet's fourth studio album, and their first since 2000's RIAA platinum-certified "IN BLUE."
The Corrs are celebrating the album's release with a world tour, including a full-scale headlining trek across North America. Tickets are already getting scarce for their long-awaited U.S. shows, which kick off August 6th at Woodinville, WA's historic Chateau Ste. Michelle winery. [itinerary attached]
The Corrs will herald their U.S. arrival with a special live outdoor performance on NBC-TV's "Toyota Concert Series on Today," slated for Friday morning, July 23rd at New York City's Rockefeller Plaza.
The band is currently getting ready to embark on a string of European concert dates, including a pair of massive homecoming shows at Dublin's the Point on June 28th and 29th. On July 11th, they will perform to an expected crowd of over 100,000 in London's Hyde Park as part of the annual Party In The Park benefit concert for the Prince's Trust.
"Summer Sunshine," the first single from "BORROWED HEAVEN," has just hit radio outlets nationwide and is being hailed as the perfect summer smash. The infectiously upbeat track ranks as the #2 "New & Active" single on R&R's AC chart, and has just debuted on the Hot AC chart at #35 with-a-bullet. "Summer Sunshine" is simultaneously shaping up as one of The Corrs' biggest-ever international hits.
