History Channel Commemorates 9/11
9/11: Relics from the Wreckage

New Special Premieres Tuesday, September 10 at 10 pm ET on H2

Highlight in Lineup of Acclaimed 9/11-Themed Programming part of
A+E Networks Continued Collaboration with the National September 11 Memorial & Museum

An aerial view on September 17th, 2001 shows only a small portion of the scene where the World Trade Center collapsed following the Sept. 11 terrorist attack. Surrounding buildings were heavily damaged by the debris and massive force of the falling twin towers. (U.S. Navy photo by Chief Photographer's Mate Eric J. Tilford)

Doing its part to ensure that this and future generations never forget the tragic events of September 11, 2001, HISTORY and H2 will commemorate the day with a line-up of new and encore programming, airing on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 10 and 11.

Highlighting the lineup is the premiere of 9/11: RELICS FROM THE WRECKAGE, a 30-minute special airing commercial free on H2 at 10PM ET on Tuesday, September 10. HISTORY will encore the Emmy® Award-winning 102 MINUTES THAT CHANGED AMERICA at 9PM ET on Wednesday, September 11, also presented commercial free.

9/11: RELICS FROM THE WRECKAGE originated as short-form content created by HISTORY’s digital programming team. Re-crafted into a 30-minute television program, the Emmy-nominated short form showcases five objects being placed in the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. How do you honor the memory and legacy of more than 3,000 lives lost to the terror attacks? That was the challenge facing the creators of the museum. They must commemorate the fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters and children who never came home that day in 2001, while preparing to educate generations of visitors who weren’t yet born when the attacks took place. Museum President Joe Daniels introduces viewers to the museum still under construction and to the artifacts they have chosen to tell the story of 9/11. The special is the latest product from a long-standing relationship between A+E Networks and the museum. In addition, History.com features a full slate of September 11th-related content including dozens of videos, a video interactive of September 11th eyewitness accounts from various locations around Manhattan and an infographic detailing the rebuilding of 1 World Trade Center and the 9/11 Memorial. Visit History.com/911 to find out more.

102 MINUTES THAT CHANGED AMERICA chronicles the events as they unfolded in New York City on September 11. Some witnesses were frozen with shock, some helped others, many ran as fast as they could from the growing disaster. And then there were those who grabbed their video cameras. 102 MINUTES THAT CHANGED AMERICA uses amateur and professional footage, woven together without narration or commentary, to faithfully record that historic morning and to provide an immersive and unforgettably emotional experience.

While 9/11 is forever seared in the minds of adult viewers, many students have no memory of the attacks and the horrific losses that followed. A+E Networks is sharing educational resources with schools and the public, helping teachers and parents who may be introducing 9/11 to young people for the first time. These outreach materials include: email newsletters to teachers with curriculum guides and resources for 102 MINUTES THAT CHANGED AMERICA and 9/11: RELICS FROM THE WRECKAGE; resource guides for schools and communities about organizing 9/11 commemorative events; and links to FAQ’s developed by the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, giving teachers and students resources for understanding 9/11 and its aftermath. HISTORY will also air MAKING THE 9/11 MEMORIAL during its commercial-free Classroom programming time slot on Monday, September 9 at 6am. MAKING THE 9/11 MEMORIAL is a behind-the-scenes exploration of the construction of the Memorial from the worldwide design competition through its installation.  .

Other 9/11 television programming includes encores of: 9/11 STATE OF EMERGENCY (8 pm Tuesday on H2); GROUNDED ON 9/11 (10:30 pm Tuesday on H2); THE MAN WHO PREDICTED 9/11 (8 pm Wednesday on HISTORY); and THE MIRACLE OF STAIRWAY B (11 pm Wednesday on HISTORY).

Body Boosts

The Sanctuary Coven Garden

Surprising Stats on the Body Beautiful

According to research published by the Sanctuary Spa Covent Garden mid-thirties is the age that women are the happiest in the nude.

The premier beauty brand surveyed over 1,200 women on their ‘naked habits’ to share some revealing feedback…

·         40% of women look at themselves naked every day – an equivalent of 8 million women a day
·         25% of women sneak a peek at themselves in the nude at least once a week
·         30% of women are most proud of their breasts and aren’t afraid to show them off
·         49% of women opted for bikinis over one-pieces when hitting the beach this summer
·         50% of women voted 49-year-old Elle Macpherson for best bikini body and 44-year-old Jennifer Aniston for best arms

The Naked Truth: 34 is the age that women are the happiest in the nude
40% of British women look at themselves naked every day, 25% look once a week
16% of British women have never seen themselves naked
Flaunting it: 30% of British ladies love their boobs and aren’t afraid to show them off
Majority of British women want Holly Willoughby’s killer curves
Elle Macpherson has the best bikini body according to 50% of Brits
All British women about to turn 34 are due for a pleasant birthday surprise, according to new research by the Sanctuary Spa; 34 year old ladies feel the happiest when naked. Good news for Kelly Brook, Caroline Flack, Donna Air and Kate Hudson who are 34 or due to celebrate their 34th birthday this year.

The research disproves the notion that Brits are a prude nation, 40 percent of women admitted to looking at themselves naked in the mirror every day, the equivalent of 8 million women a day. A further 25 percent sneak a peek at least once a week and just 16 percent of British women revealed that they have never seen themselves naked.

The research into women’s naked habits was commissioned by Sanctuary Spa. When asked their favorite part of their body, 30 percent of ladies are proud of their boobs, citing their boobs as the body part they most like to flaunt. This is closely followed by legs (22 percent) and shoulders (19 percent).

When asked what part of their body women would most like to change, the majority (57 percent) answered their stomach. Yet as we hit the peak of beach season, British women are in somewhat of a quandary as to whether they pack a two piece; 49 percent of British women will be wearing a bikini on holiday this summer.

Social media is playing a large part in women’s decision making process; 65 percent of women won’t wear a bikini on holiday for fear of photos of them appearing on Facebook. Just 10 percent of women say they aren’t confident enough to wear a bikini on the beach this summer.

When it comes to Brits’ bikini idols, over-40 Elle Macpherson cemented her Top Model credentials by securing the most votes (50 percent) in the Best Bikini Body category.

Kylie Minogue topped the poll for Best Beach Bum (43 percent), closely followed by Jennifer Lopez (32 percent) and Carol Vorderman (8 percent).

When it comes to killer curves, British is definitely best with women citing Holly Willoughby (48 percent), Catherine Zeta Jones (22 percent) and Nigella Lawson (17 percent) as the curvy bodies they most envy.

Topping the poll for Best Arms was yoga devotee Jennifer Aniston (47 percent) and former ballerina and Strictly Come Dancing judge Darcey Bussell (25 percent).  Darcey’s ballerina-sculpted legs are also envied by 16 percent of British women, second only to Cameron Diaz whose athletic legs are coveted by 35 percent of Brits.

Darcey Bussell, ambassador for Sanctuary Spa, comments: “For me body confidence is all about being healthy, strong and happy in my own skin. I also think that good posture improves confidence and can take years off your appearance. Always pull out of your waist to create space between your hips and ribs, this improves core strength and helps you to look and feel more confident in your own skin. When my skin looks and feels healthy I also feel better showing it off.”

Research undertaken by Sanctuary Spa on 1,230 women in August 2013.

NEW ANIMAL BEHAVIORS DOCUMENTED FOR THE FIRST TIME

Secret Life of Predators, Hosted by Naturalist and Big Cat Tracker Boone Smith,
Goes into the Perilous — but Rarely Seen — World of Deadly Hunters

Four-Part Special Event Secret Life of Predators Premieres
Friday, September 20, and Friday, September 27, 2013, on NGC and Nat Geo WILD

Predators can be iconic or surprising.  Some are easy to recognize, and some you would never even suspect, but every one of them must strategize, improvise and specialize in order to survive. From the networks that brought viewers Untamed Americas and Great Migrations, the National Geographic Channels now present Secret Life of Predators. Produced by the award-winning team at National Geographic Television, the four-part epic event will be simulcast on both National Geographic Channel (NGC) and Nat Geo WILD on Friday, September 20, at 8 p.m.ET/PT and Friday, September 27, at 9 p.m. ET/PT during the “Night of Exploration.” (For more information, visitwww.natgeotv.com or www.natgeowild.com and follow us on Twitter at twitter.com/NGC_PR.)

Guided by naturalist and big cat tracker Boone Smith, Secret Life of Predators travels to the depths of the oceans, the high forests, the vast open land and to the edge of the earth to capture every strike, chase and kill. Traveling across the globe to some of the world’s most unforgiving places including Africa’s savanna, Indonesia’s tropical reefs, Central America’s rainforest and India’s dry forest, see the world through the eyes of a predator. Regardless of where they stalk, soar or swim, carnivores must fight for every morsel, every meal, every day.

“Because they’re killers, we often think that predators have an easy time of it, but it’s actually the toughest gig on the planet,” said Smith. “Secret Life of Predators offers viewers a rare look at the ‘circle of life’ from the predators’ point of view.  They may be more lethally equipped than their prey, but life isn’t an open buffet.   Every encounter is an adrenaline-charged conflict … where the risk can be greater than the reward.”

Combining cutting-edge cinematography with a surprising soundtrack of indie-rock music including Snow Patrol and The Lumineers, the four-part special delivers new and astounding stories about 45 different animal species. The very best wildlife cameramen and crews traveled to 18 countries, immersing themselves in 12 different habitats to capture extraordinary natural history footage and never-before-seen animal behaviors. They endured brutally cold temperatures 400 miles from the North Pole to film polar bears and Arctic foxes; more than 200 miles out to sea from Mexico, they swam alongside the fastest fish in the ocean; and they dove 150 feet underwater in Canada to observe the giant Pacific octopus.

Deep in the rainforest, National Geographic cameras captured the unbelievable instinctual behavior of glass frog embryos. Before they were ready to hatch, these miniscule tadpoles broke out of their eggs to seek safety from a giant wasp attack. In the vast expanse of the African savanna, witness an incredibly rare act of kindness as one lioness helps an injured elder feed. Beneath the icy waves of Alaska’s Aleutian Islands, filmmakers documented killer whales performing a unique hunting technique that scientists didn’t know even existed … until now.

Secret Life of Predators examines an arsenal of powerful, bizarre and stealth-like skills using an array of state-of-the-art technology. Super-slow-motion cameras capture the deadly claw strike of a small but mighty peacock mantis shrimp. Specially mounted carcass cameras provide a unique view of cheetah cubs and orcas feeding. Underwater cameras film the wacky-looking hairy frogfish walking across the sea floor. Cameras equipped with night vision make it possible to witness a sea turtle laying her eggs in the sand, and then the newborn turtles making their audacious journey to the ocean just two months later.

Episode premieres include:

Secret Life of Predators: Naked
Premieres Friday, September 20, at 8 p.m. ET/PT

There are still places on Earth where fields of grass stretch as far as the eye can see. In order to survive in these open spaces, predators must hide in plain sight.  On the vast plains of the African savanna, banded mongooses rely on strength in numbers in order to succeed in a land of giants. Cheetahs and secretary birds must conquer extreme heat and elusive prey, risking their lives to feed their offspring. Mongolian wolves hunt for scarce food on the steppe. In the high Arctic, foxes hunt constantly during the short summers but always save some food for the long, extreme winters. The largest Arctic predators, polar bears, are far less picky than most assume ... and may have priorities other than food.

Secret Life of Predators: Stealth
Premieres Friday, September 20, at 9 p.m. ET/PT

Whether searching for prey in the tropical canopy or stalking a meal over a spongy moss carpet, forest predators rely on “stealth-like” skills to survive. Natural instincts kick in right from birth, and in one never-before-seen case, even before birth. For the first time captured on camera, watch glass frog embryos hatch early to escape a little-known but lethal wasp, while their father fiercely defends the babies with his martial arts moves. See how the most powerful raptor on Earth, the harpy eagle, zeroes in on large mammal prey. With talons bigger than grizzly claws, it snatches massive sloths and monkeys out of the treetops with precision. A pregnant bushmaster, the world’s largest pit viper, slithers along the rainforest floor in search of the perfect place to ambush her prey before hunkering down to lay her eggs. From the smallest true carnivore on the planet, the least weasel, to some of the largest, including the Bengal tiger and the brown bear — find out what it takes to stalk, hunt and overcome insurmountable odds to make it the wild.

Secret Life of Predators: Exposed
Premieres Friday, September 27, at 9 p.m. ET/PT

When water meets land, landscapes clash and predators such as dolphins, lions, monitor lizards and baboons must master skills to hunt in both habitats.  In the East African rift, where mountains and a dry lakeshore confine predators to a narrow strip of land, witness remarkable altruism among lions and see firsthand how ferocious a group of seemingly playful olive baboons can be. From the edge of the Rift Valley, journey north to a high mountain plateau where the world’s rarest wolf survives against all odds by hunting unusual prey. Along the American coastal wetlands, predators are forced to be clever and creative: reddish egrets dance on water to catch their prey, Atlantic bottlenose dolphins beach themselves to scare fish out of the water, and an American alligator is thwarted by sneaky nocturnal raccoons while facing the unrelenting difficulties of motherhood.

Secret Life of Predators: Wet
Premieres Friday, September 27, at 10 p.m. ET/PT

The oceans of our planet are ruthless battlefields that constantly test even the deadliest carnivores. Dive beneath the icy waves of Alaska’s Aleutian Islands to witness a hunting technique rarely, if ever, documented amongst killer whales. Orcas spend only moments feeding on a gray whale calf before dragging the carcass to the sea floor in order to store the meat for leaner times.  Remarkably, small cameras mounted on the dead whale capture the entire process.  Further south, the fastest fish in the ocean, the sailfish, corrals sardines into a giant bait ball in the Gulf of Mexico.  Along the Pacific Coast, the Pacific torpedo ray uses its biological batteries to stun potential prey with a strong jolt of electricity. Success in the sea doesn’t always depend upon size. Secret Life of Predators also explores a carnival of smaller carnivores, including: the peacock mantis shrimp and its 360-degree ultraviolent eyesight; the hairy frogfish that walks along the ocean floor and dangles a fleshy “worm” lure before attacking its prey; and the banded sea krait, a venomous sea snake.

(Boston, MA) – From the vibrant seafood-filled waters of Puget Sound to the rich, grape-filled fields of Sonoma, from an intimate sunset dinner on an urban rooftop terrace in Manhattan to a beach banquet for 150 people in the San Francisco Bay Area, the new series MOVEABLE FEAST WITH FINE COOKING celebrates the spirit of pop-up cooking events and invites the country’s most innovative chefs, rising culinary stars and food artisans to partake in a one-of-a-kind gastro adventure that will inspire viewers. Produced by WGBH and Fine Cooking magazine, the new 13-episode series crisscrosses the country, teaming up talented chefs with host/chef Pete Evans to create unique and spontaneous feasts in unconventional settings for friends and family. MOVEABLE FEAST WITH FINE COOKING premieres on public television stations beginning Saturday, September 7, 2013 (check local listings).

Each week, host Pete Evans, Australia’s top celebrity chef, author and restaurateur, travels to a new location in the U.S. to challenge local chefs to join him in spur-of-the-moment “culinary jams” to create in one day a feast in an exciting location. Culinary guest stars--including renowned chefs Jacques Pepin, Marcus Samuelsson, Anita Lo, Larry and Marc Forgione, Jonathan Waxman, Andy Ricker, Jeffrey Saad, and more--are asked to demonstrate their farm-to-table cooking methods, as viewers follow them to source the finest local ingredients for their dishes. Afterwards, the chefs join forces and work against the clock to prepare a multi-course menu for an eclectic, enthusiastic, and ravenous group of diners. Viewers will learn from the participants firsthand what ingredients inspire their cooking perspective and the local food treasures and experiences that best exemplify their home cities.

In the September 7th series premiere, MOVEABLE FEAST WITH FINE COOKING host/chef Pete Evans kicks off the culinary journey in Seattle, where he meets with chefs Tom Douglas and Thierry Rautureau. The chefs take Pete on his first crabbing trip to catch Dungeness crab in Puget Sound. In this launch episode, the series also visits Seattle’s legendary Pike Place Market and culminates with the chefs joining forces to create a delectable meal of Squid on Garlic Toast with Arugula, steaming Dungeness Crab and Pasta Ricotta Salata (Tom’s version of Mac & Cheese!), and Sand Dabs with Garlic Flowers and Morels—in a “pop-up” feast for 15 guests at a beach pavilion overlooking the water.
