The Nanny on TV Land
“The Nanny” joins TV Land beginning Monday, August 2, 2010 at 6 p.m. ET/PT. From Monday, August 2nd through Friday, August 6th, TV Land will air mini-marathons featuring guest stars such as Roseanne Barr, Ray Romano, Jay Leno, Harry Hamlin, Joan Collins, Billy Ray Cyrus, Elizabeth Taylor and more.
Another mini-marathon of how nanny Fran Fine (Fran Drescher) went from nanny to wife as TV Land features the highs and lows of Fran’s romance with Broadway producer and boss, Maxwell Sheffield with romantic episodes on Saturday, August 7th from 12 p.m. – 9 p.m. and Sunday, August 8th from 12 p.m.– 10 p.m. ET/PT.
Starting August 9, 2010, “The Nanny” can be seen weeknights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on TV Land.
Drescher starred in this ‘90s sitcom as Fran Fine, a bubbly and nasal-voiced Queens native who (we learn in the first episode of the series) was fired from her job and abandoned by her boyfriend. Selling cosmetics door to door, she meets a rich, widowed English Broadway producer named Maxwell Sheffield (Charles Shaughnessy) and is taken for an applicant for the job of nanny to Maxwell's three children Maggie (Nicholle Tom), Brighton (Benjamin Salisbury), and Grace (Madeline Zima, who you can see quite a bit of in her more "mature" role on Showtime's "Californication").
Her nurturing style includes out-of-the-ordinary techniques coupled with a tell-it-like-it-is attitude which made the children, the butler, Niles (Daniel Davis) – and eventually her boss – fall in love with her. The cast included Fran’s food-loving mother, Sylvia (Renée Taylor) and Maxwell’s partner and Niles’ arch-enemy, C.C. Babcock (Lauren Lane). Drescher was nominated twice for an Emmy® and the show received countless awards including a TV Land Award in 2008 for Favorite Nanny. “The Nanny” ran on CBS from 1993-1999.
The Nanny Theme Song
"She was working in a bridal shop in Flushing, Queens
'Til her boyfriend kicked her out
in one of those crushing scenes
What was she to do? Where was she to go?
She was out on her fanny...
So over the bridge from Flushing to the Sheffield's door
She was there to sell make-up, but father saw more
She had style! She had flair! She was there
That's how she became the Nanny!
Who would have guessed that the girl we've described
Was just exactly what the doctor prescribed?
Now the father finds her beguiling (watch out C.C.!)
And the kids are actually smiling (such joie de vivre!)
She's the lady in red when everybody else is wearing tan...
The flashy girl from Flushing, the Nanny named Fran!"
The series aired on CBS from Novemeber 3, 1993 up to May 12, 1999

Mom-to-Be Applegate Chooses Frankie B.
Say Frankie B. to us and we imagine super skinny stars in their signature low-low rise jeans. But last Sunday, 25 July 2010, a pregnant Christina Applegate wore a pair of the BFF Leggings by Frankie B. to the premiere of Cats & Dogs: The Return of Kitty Galore in Hollywood (Applegate voices the eponymous "Kitty" in the film).
The actress apparently liked the way the leggings felt and look and requested an additional pair to wear throughout her upcoming press junket. A Frankie B. rep says pregnant Applegate's choice "single handedly dispels the myth that Frankie B. caters only to the ultra thin and skinny."
Frankie B. designer Daniella Clarke wore the low-rise jeans while pregnant with her own daughter, “We have been working hard to get the word out that women up to a size 30 waist can wear our jeans. It’s not just for 23, 24, or 25 inch waists any longer.”
The brand introduced a new mid-rise jean with a front rise of 8” and back rise of 11 ¾” to "accommodate the growing trend of a round and ample female body type glamorized by celebrities known for their ample assets such as Kim Kardashian, Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez," the rep explains. The jean, available in both boot cut and skinny fit, will debut in stores this Fall.
The BFF legging worn by Christina Applegate is currently available online at www.frankieb.com. The BFF leggings (there are several styles) retail from $108 to $152.

Charlie Mars Captivates L.A. Café Audience
by Shammara Woods
BeansTalk Contributor
The Hotel Café in Los Angeles was home to a packed audience on Tuesday, 20 July 2010, as dozens listened to the sultry baritone of Charlie Mars as he played a set of songs off of his latest album, Like a Bird, Like a Plane.
Strapped with an acoustic guitar and a steady tap to keep rhythm, Mars geared up with “The Only One,” a song he says puts him in the right mood to play. His melodic voice was synonymous with the red velvet curtains that hung behind him in the sense that they shared the same smooth, yet rich texture.
“Don’t go…” he crooned toward the end of the piece.
Throughout the rest of the night, the Mississippi native continued to draw his audience in, with his witty southern accent and a compilation of light-winded jokes and memorable stories. Before performing what he called a favorite, “What Are You Looking For?” he reminisced on how the song –which was originally intended to be a collaboration with Patty Griffin—“just didn’t turn out good.”
During one memorable segment of his performance, he vividly described how the idea for his single, “Meet Me By the Backdoor” came about. Mars said he was performing at a venue one night with two separate stages. While on the smaller stage Mars said he could hear the hip-hop music from the larger stage leaking through during his set. Mars said that he eventually briefed the larger stage that night and noticed how the crowd was moving to the rhythm, with their hands waving in the air.
“I wanted to create a song that everyone could move to, so that’s how I wrote this one,” he said. Following his recollection of the song’s influence, he gestured for the crowd to join him by waving their own hands and singing along.

Says Oolie, “Kick-off those Louboutin’s and soak those couture toes in a one of a kind mixture of milk, honey and bee pollen extract. A seductive scrub and signature Honey Heel Glaze massage will keep your hands and toes in the social media know! Watch out B and S, the Met steps has the newest Queen Bee ready, willing and going to sting! You know your digits will love me. Extremely lightweight in texture with smooth finish, the FarmHouse Fresh® Honey Heel Glaze is fragranced with velvety cinnamon notes, sweet cloves and actual honey. It contains genuine all-natural honey--a humectant that helps attract and retain moisture--and vitamin-packed ingredients such as aloe leaf juice, pineapple and papaya fruit extracts. The Honey Heel Glaze retails for $24.00 in a 3-ounce glass jar, for those who want to feel like a Queen Bee at home.
Drinks on the House! body exfoliation service (50 minutes; $135.00) at Just Calm Down includes: application of the FarmHouse Fresh® Bourbon Bubbler body scrub for exfoliation; warm shower; and a rub down using the FarmHouse Fresh® Whoopie! shea butter body cream. “Your skin will feel sexily soft with our Just Calm Down southern hoe down Bourbon Bubbler scrumptious body scrub,” explains Oolie. “A mixture of brown sugar, real Kentucky whiskey, vitamin E, and rice bran oil circulated city style will give your body a nourishing jumpstart before any backless event! A Whoopie! cream rubdown sounds as good as it feels, and will leave your skin glowing, dewy soft and ready for whatever comes next…” The Drinks on the House! treatment can be followed by any sunless tanning service, such as Just Calm Down’s Sunner in the City, as the Bourbon Bubbler scrub uses rice bran oil, which does not leave the typical oily residue that prevents tanning lotions from sticking to skin. “It’s of real benefit for spray tan goddesses because of its squeaky clean finish,” states McLinden. Fragranced with sweet molten gingersnap and pecan, the paraben- and sulfate-free Bourbon Bubbler retails for $32.50 in a 12-ounce glass jar. “The Whoopie! cream is a jarful of joy reminiscent of the home baked Whoopie pies made famous by farmers of yesterday who would shout with joy, ‘Whoopie!’ when they found the heavenly desserts in their lunch pails,” explains McLinden. The paraben- and sulfate-free Whoopie! contains a supple blend of Shea and cocoa butters, jojoba seed oil, soybean oil, aloe and vitamins A and E. The butters and oils soften and soothe even the severest of dry, chapped skin, while helping to improve the skin’s elasticity. The aloe and vitamin E also help to calm skin irritations and sunburns. Whoopie! retails for $30.00 in a 10 oz. glass jar in a vintage-inspired box with a fun memorabilia image that makes it a beautiful gift and keepsake.

How The Cape Fur Seal
Evades The Great White
Methodical Shark Ambush vs. Seal Speed and Skill …
Who Wins When and Why? Shark Expert Ryan Johnson Joins
Marine Scientists as They Deploy Innovative Real-World Experiments
to Rewrite Predator-Prey Science in National Geographic Channel Special
Escaping the Great White Premieres Friday, July 23, 2010, at 9 PM ET/PT
The great white shark is a tenacious predator that strikes with explosive power. But its favorite prey, the feisty Cape fur seal, manages to evade the jaws time and time again — a puzzle that has baffled scientists. Now, National Geographic Channel (NGC) heads to an epicenter of seal activity in South Africa’s Seal Island to investigate seals’ great escapes from the great white.
In Escaping the Great White, premiering Friday, July 23, 2010, at 9 PM ET/PT, shark scientist Ryan Johnson and colleague Alta de Vos plunge into a key battlefield between shark and seal to conduct a series of experiments that explore the many tactics in seals’ anti-shark defenses. Is the escape rate mostly a function of sheer swimming speed and instinctual reflexes? Why do seals exploit opportune hours when venturing into the sharks’ kill zone? And how does a strategic “buddy system” keep the seals out of the bellies of the mighty killer beast?
Head to South Africa’s Seal Island, where tens of thousands of seals gather on the shores, and sharks wait out farther at sea — invisible in deeper, darker water — preparing to ambush from below when seals venture out to feed. Johnson and de Vos’s first task is to find out why most shark victims are juveniles. Do sharks prefer the younger seals, or are they making more mistakes than the adults?
Using rubber decoys of one big seal and one small seal, the experiment is put into play and instigates awe-inspiring displays of power. Given the choice, Escaping the Great White shows sharks leaping out the water to target adult seals. The results clearly indicate that while sharks prefer adult seals, in real life, the adults have better mastered their survival strategies.
Escaping the Great White then tackles a puzzle that has baffled scientists for decades: the strategy of swimming in herds. One theory, called the Selfish Herd Hypothesis, is that individuals form a compact group to selfishly minimize their own chance of being eaten. But for nearly 30 years, the hypothesis has been scientifically elusive. Now, Johnson and de Vos devise an ingenious, yet simple experiment to test it.
They utilize expertly grouped seal decoys within shark-infested waters. The decoys fool the sharks into exploding out of the water to attack again and again. But the seals’ odds of getting hit are not equal, giving the scientists the first evidence to confirm the theory. Their observations confirm that the seal buddy system works … the closer a decoy is to its neighbor, the smaller its chances of drawing a deadly hit.
Finally, see how seals’ superior night vision leverages their escape strategies. Johnson and de Vos dive below to observe for themselves what the shark sees looking up from the depths at various times of day. They find that beginning just after sunrise, the shark has a clear silhouette view of his prey, while the seals are disadvantaged with a shadier image of their predator below. To steer clear of a shark hit, savvy adult seals avoid swimming during the time when they could easily be seen, and focus instead on late-night dives.
From beautiful, serene footage of seals playing underwater to magnificent, powerful displays of great whites breaching the water, Escaping the Great White opens a stunning window that illuminates new understanding in predator-prey science.
Escaping the Great White is produced by Africa Wildlife Films for National Geographic Channel. For Africa Wildlife Films, producer is Lynne Richardson, director is Phil Richardson, writer is Jonathon Cumming. For NGC, executive producer is Mike Welsh, senior vice president of production is Michael Cascio, executive vice president of content is Steve Burns.

BBC AMERICA announced a new U.S. premiere co-production: Luther, starring Idris Elba is a six-part, psychological thriller that takes a look at the crime genre. Elba is also Associate Producer on the project.
Elba, best known for his performance as drug kingpin Russell "Stringer" Bell in HBO’s The Wire or as the husband (to Beyonce) stalked by Ali Larter in Obsessed or as "Tango" in American Gangster, with Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe or in the comedies This Christmas and Tyler Perry's Daddy's Little Girls or as "Charles Miner," the hapless interim boss in the U.S. "The Office," now finds himself playing a character on the other side of the law.
In Luther, Elba plays John Luther, an intellectually brilliant but emotionally impulsive murder detective. He considers his profession a vocation rather than a job and it remains to be seen if he’s a force for good or a man hell bent on self-destruction. His confidante is also his arch-enemy Alice (The Prisoner, as well as the recent, beautiful adaptation of Jane Eyre; she was also excellent in the PBS' Masterpiece Theater Small Island), a beautiful multiple-murderess who evades his grasp early on, and with whom he becomes locked in a lethal battle of wits.
Luther is created and written by acclaimed suspense novelist, and one of the lead writers on MI-5 (called Spooks in the U.K.), Neil Cross. He says: "I'm delighted that the BBC has brought Luther to life. It's an intense psychological thriller which examines not only human depravity but the complex nature of love … and how it's often this – our finest attribute – that leads us into darkness."
Cast includes: Ruth Wilson as Alice Morgan, beautiful, extraordinarily intelligent and a key witness in Luther's first investigation; Steven Mackintosh (Prick Up Your Ears, It's Different for Girls, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans [he was the bad guy among bad guys] and was quite good in the PBS' Our Mutual Friend) as Detective Chief Inspector Ian Reed and Luther's loyal friend and work colleague; Indira Varma (the beautiful actress from Rome, Bones' "Yanks in the U.K.," Bride and Prejudice) as Zoe Luther, who's had the strength to walk away from the man she still loves; Paul McGann (aka the 8th Dr. Who, Withnail and I, Queen of the Damned, 1986's miniseries Monocled Mutineer) as Mark North, unafraid to compete with Luther for Zoe's love; Saskia Reeves (Bodies, The Tesseract, Dune) as Detective Superintendent Rose Teller, Luther's risk-taking boss and Warren Brown (Andy Holt in Hollyoaks, Occupation) as Detective Sergeant Justin Ripley, Luther's loyal, awestruck new partner.
Chris Carr says: “BBC AMERICA viewers have always loved British crime thrillers. Luther, puts a whole new spin on the genre and sucks you in with its intelligent storytelling and gripping plotlines. We’re thrilled to have Idris Elba on BBC AMERICA and intend to surprise a few people by revealing that he’s British!”
Luther, airing later this year, adds to BBC AMERICA’S new slate of co-productions recently announced including sci-fi thriller Outcasts starring Eric Mabius (the boss on Ugly Betty) and Come Dine With Me, a cooking show which follows amateur chefs competing for the title of the ultimate dinner party host.

New Poirot on PBS Sunday
David Suchet stars as suave Belgian super sleuth Hercule Poirot in three new mysteries based on the novels by Agatha Christie on PBS. His "Murder on the Orient Express," which aired last Sunday was an excellent, albeit darker rendition than previous adaptations.
For this week's Appointment With Death, an archaeological dig is the scene of murder in the Middle East, leading Poirot (David Suchet) to unravel a tragic tale of twisted family secrets. The cast of suspects includes co-stars Tim Curry (Spamalot) and Elizabeth McGovern (“A Room With a View”). Alan Cumming hosts.

What a thrill it is to return to the roots and soul of American popular music in the 60s — and to have this program presented by the royalty of Aretha Franklin is such a tremendous honor.”

New TNT Series Premieres 12 July 2010
The new drama series RIZZOLI & ISLES, starring Angie Harmon (Law & Order) and Sasha Alexander (NCIS) premieres Monday, July 12, at 10 p.m. (ET/PT), following the sixth-season premiere of TNT’s hit series THE CLOSER. Based on characters created by best-selling author Tess Gerritsen, RIZZOLI & ISLES comes to TNT from Warner Horizon Television.
RIZZOLI & ISLES follows Boston detective Jane Rizzoli (Harmon) and medical examiner Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander), complete opposites and good friends who solve crimes and bust some of Boston’s most notorious criminals. Growing up at opposite ends of the economic spectrum, the two remain strikingly different from one another in many ways. Jane, the only female detective in Boston’s homicide division, is a tough and gutsy cop who doesn’t let her guard down (except with Maura), dodges her overprotective mother and is better at basketball than her brother. Maura, meanwhile, is usually more comfortable among the dead than the living. She is always impeccably dressed in designer duds with a steady, sometimes icy temperament. And she is working on curbing her tendency to diagnose the people she meets – including her first dates. Jane and Maura often find themselves working together as both use their brilliant minds and expertise to figure out the “who done it” as well as the “how done it” of Boston’s most complex cases.
Despite their many differences, Jane and Maura are best friends, with a quirky and supportive relationship. As Tamaro explains, “That Jane and Maura are so different and yet so effective as a team makes them unusual.… There’s something rare about their relationship that I see in the world but not enough on television: two smart, strong, competent women who instinctively drop the protective shield when they’re with each other.”
RIZZOLI & ISLES also stars Lorraine Bracco (The Sopranos) as Angela, Jane’s demanding and intrusive mother; Lee Thompson Young (FlashForward) as Det. Barry Frost, Jane’s somewhat green partner; Bruce McGill (Law Abiding Citizen) as Det. Vince Korsak, Jane’s seasoned former partner; and Jordan Bridges (Dawson’s Creek) as Jane’s brother, Frankie, a patrol cop who hopes one day to become a detective.

Cork It!!
Cork Finds
BeansTalk isn't crazy about the trend towards cork-bottomed shoes, but they seem to be super popular. In fact, we have a friend who's gone a tad shoe crazy lately and she has a particular penchant for this look, albeit in the highest of heels. Who are we to deny fans what's hot? So here's a look at some of the cutest versions we've found. (You may notice we don't have many slingbacks or ankle-straps -- they're a particular "no" for us, still, we found some darling samples. Prices quoted from zappos.com, but you can always do a Google search on the style you like to find other retailers.)

Juicy Couture
Juicy Couture™ Kody!
These look pretty great, but from the photo, the leather looks soft and pliant enough to stretch -- the issue would be if they would do it too quickly (stretch) and then the slingback part would keep slipping and be annoying -- but, then again, you may be the type who isn't bothered by that.
Nappa or nubuck leather upper.
Juicy Couture crown engraved stud accents at the back quarter.
Leather lining.
"Juicy Couture" repeated on the footbed.

Nine West
As far as stylish and more reasonably priced, Nine West are right up there. We reckon that nearly every lady reading this has a pair of Nine West shoes or sandals tucked away in her closet or ready-to-wear. With stores throughout the country, and availability at department store discounters like Ross, TJ Maxx and Marshalls, Nine West are very often a great buy. Our most comfortable pair of "dressy" (ie leather and suede) flip-flop sandals were from Nine West. We had two pair in the same style and wore them to pieces, they were that comfortable, versatile and all around go-to shoes.

Dezario
Before you dismiss this brand as for the more mature (we originally wrote "an old lady brand,") we actually just got our first pair of Dezarios (the Chai) and they are not only very attractive on, they are so comfortable. Here's the higher-heeled version of the pair I got -- in cork, of course.

Think!
I know, this sandal doesn't really fit in with the others, but it's something we might actually wear and found it super cute and on sale. There was a now long-gone little shoe shop at Cross Creek in Malibu that sold the entire line of Think! shoes and they were so sweet. We have yet to get a pair, but perhaps…someday.

Lifetime's Three Pilot Orders
With Lifetime Television's successes Army Wives and Drop Dead Diva, the network has ordered three drama pilots from writer/producers as Josh Berman (CSI, Bones, Drop Dead Diva), Annie Brunner (Huff) and Jeffrey Bell (V).
The first of a number of pilot orders the network anticipates to make this year, the hour-long drama pilots for potential 2011 launches include:
• Against the Wall, from writer Brunner, a family drama set in Chicago following policewoman “Abby Kowalski,” who causes a rift with her three cop brothers when she decides to join the department’s Internal Affairs division.
• Exit 19, which follows single mother “Gloria Shepherd” as she juggles her demanding personal and professional lives raising two children while working as a New York Police Department homicide detective. The pilot is from ABC Studios and CBS Paramount, executive producer/writer Bell and executive producers Nina Wass (Sherri, Less than Perfect) and Gene Stein (Sherri, Accidentally on Purpose).
• Untitled Josh Berman Project from Sony Pictures Television, a closed ended drama set in San Diego, where police detective “Molly Collins,” married mother of two on the verge of divorce, and her partner “Brooke Kross,” recently engaged, investigate the city’s most high-profile crimes while navigating their divergent personal lives. Berman is creator and executive producer of Lifetime’s hit comedic drama Drop Dead Diva, which recorded double digit premiere-to-premiere growth across key demos in its second season debut on June 6, 2010.
