Brow Guru Launches Skincare Line

Anastasia Soare has long been synonymous with celebrities and eyebrows. She recently launched a cosmetics line, Anastasia Beverly Hills (and BeansTalk was extremely impressed with her mascara; it was some of the best we've ever sampled), Soare launches her skincare collection this month, with the release of the Line Erasing Serum.

Soare’s method of creating the illusion of "an instant face lift through correct brow shaping," say her reps, "is further developed by creating a serum to soften crow’s feet. Crow’s feet pull down the ends of the brows, creating an aged or tired look."

The serum, the reps say, erase "fine lines and wrinkles, dryness, crow’s feet, dark circles and puffiness." The serum contains a blend of natural hydrators, Instalift Goji, and Soare’s Balkan Botanical™ Infusion. Soare was dissatisfied with the current ingredients on the market, so she returned to her native Romania to find healthy products that naturally improve the texture, tone and appearance of skin.

She developed Balkan Botanical™ Infusion, a blend of plant and herb extracts found only in the rich soils of Romania. A few of these ingredients are Marshmallow Leaf, Lemon Balm Leaf, Bilberry, and Green Tea.

Per her rep, Anastasia Beverly Hills Line Erasing Serum Key Ingredients:

"Instalift Goji (Tibetan Goji Berry) – Gives the appearance of reduced fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. This powerful antioxidant provides immediate lift and, as discovered by clinical studies, improves the skin’s firmness by 26.8% within one hour of application.

Balkan Botanical™ Infusion – An antioxidant rich complex helps soften, soothe, and hydrate skin.

Sodium Hyaluronate – Delivers ideal hydration to smooth and refresh the eye area.

Chrysin and Hydroxysuccinimide – Mask the appearance of redness, while leaving the skin looking brighter and lighter, perfect for those pesky dark circles and puffiness."

Celebrity fans of Anastasia Beverly Hills include Charlize Theron, Jennifer Lopez, Heidi Klum, Sienna Miller, Kim Kardashian, Megan Fox and others.

Line Erasing Serum retails for $45 and is available at Sephora and online at www.anastasia.net.

Soare will release a second skincare product, the Sheer Moisture Crème SPF 30, a hydrating and ultra-light SPF 30 day cream for all skin types to be released in January 2010.

The fragrance-free formula "softens the skin while providing protection against broad-spectrum UVA/UVB rays and free radicals that can cause signs of aging. Sheer Moisture Crème SPF 30 contains hyaluronic acid, antioxidants, natural oils, and Anastasia’s exclusive Balkan Botanical™ Infusion."

Anastasia Beverly Hills Sheer Moisture Crème SPF 30 Key Ingredients (from their press release):

"Squalene – Colorless, odorless and greaseless oil derived from olives that penetrates skin deeply to moisturize, nourish, and lubricate, keeping the skin soft and supple. It also helps facilitate the absorption of other ingredients.

Balkan Botanical™ Infusion – An antioxidant rich complex helps soften, soothe, and hydrate skin.

Sodium Hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid) – A natural skin component capable of retaining up to 1,000 times its weight in water, increases hydration, and enhances the appearance of skin elasticity.

Tocopherol – Naturally occurring antioxidant that helps the skin remain firm and healthy."

Sheer Moisture Crème SPF 30 will be launching in January 2010 exclusively at Nordstroms, retailing for $40.00.

Officially licensed by Apple Corps Ltd., The Beatles Box of Vision is a companion to the digitally re-mastered Beatles catalog, released September 9, 2009.

“I’d consider the Box of Vision a must for Beatles fans who want the full experience of exploring this amazing music all over again,” said Los Angeles Times pop music writer Randy Lewis. Heralded as “dazzling” by Associated Press, the collection includes:

• The Box Of Vision storage book, a unique and elegant way to organize and display
• all 32 discs of The Beatles’ core catalog.
• The first LP-size book with all The Beatles’ LP artwork (almost 200 pages), brilliantly
• restored in brand new art prints.
• The “Catalography,” a new, full color discography with photos, text and track-listings
• – the first-ever side-by-side presentation of the UK albums and their US counterparts.

Journalist Fred Mills shared his experience with blurt-online.com readers: “as luscious a piece of Beatles swag Box of Vision is…it took my young son to drive home one of the central reasons it exists in the first place. With a simple, ‘Can we listen to some Beatles and look at that book tonight?’, he helped me recover, if just for a moment, the same sense of wonderment and awe I must have felt back in the days when I was buying Beatles records at the local five-and-dime and playing them to death on my battered old Magnavox drop-down record changer.”

The 7,200-copy, limited first edition of The Beatles Box of Vision has already sold out but the second printing of The Beatles Box of Vision is ready to ship and can be purchased online at http://www.BoxOfVision.com

BeansTalk Interviews Legend Norman Lloyd

Film and Television Icon
Norman Lloyd on
Suspense and the Superfluous

TCM Suspense Special Begins Friday

by BeansTalk's Managing Editor

Let’s address the elephant in the room (or, at the very least, the first question everyone seems to ask when they realize Norman Lloyd has just been interviewed): the iconic legend, 95, has both a brilliant memory, and the ability to weave enthusiastic tales of his 70-year plus career as though he’s telling them for the first time.

Lloyd sat down with BeansTalk to discuss his role in TCM’s “A Night at the Movies” October documentary special, “The Suspenseful World of Thrillers.” As the star of two Alfred Hitchcock classics, “Saboteur,” and “Spellbound,” and the producer/director of TV’s “Alfred Hitchcock Presents,” Lloyd’s more than sufficiently qualified.

The special Lloyd appears as part of October’s Friday night lineup of films that include “Shadow of a Doubt,” “Rear Window,” “The Manchurian Candidate,” “The Parallax View,” “The Boys from Brazil,” “Rebecca,” “Gaslight” and others.

TV fans may best know Lloyd, who also worked with Jean Renoir in “Southerner” and Charlie Chaplin in “Limelight,” for his role as Dr. Daniel Auschlander in the watershed television series “St. Elsewhere,” a role Lloyd cherishes. “[St. Elsewhere] was absolutely the highlight of my life. It remains and outstanding experience in career. It lasted six years, but could’ve gone on longer, but for whatever reason, it did not, unfortunately.”

The medical dramady, “was as high a level as anything I’ve ever done in pictures. I loved it.”

“No one touched the writing they did in that show. They were the first to go into so many subjects that had never been tackled before, AIDs, dialysis…it was incredible what they went into, and the humor! The black humor was fantastic. It was so good, not enough can be said about it. There were such good actors, too Denzel Washington, Ed Flanders, there was no better actor in America than Ed Flanders. Why it’s not playing in syndication right now, I don’t know. It’s very sad.”

Dozens of books have been written about Hitchcock, many citing his often challenging personality (he was supposedly dogmatic and fastidious; it is often noted the director “hated” actors), but Lloyd enjoyed a long and fruitful association.

“He appreciated what I did as an actor,” explains Lloyd, who first met Hitchcock in 1942, when he was hired to star in “Saboteur.” “I enjoyed him so much as a personality, his sense of humor and so forth. I really caught on to his point of view. I understood the way he said things and as a consequence of that, he trusted me to be fair, to work for him in the capacity of producer, and actor and he hired me again. We had a mutual understanding of what we wanted to do.”

Citing his work as a stage actor as the most “comfortable” part he’s ever had (choosing from film and tv acting, directing and producing), Lloyd becomes uncomfortable when asked about what he’s watching today. “I watch sports,” he concedes, “and movies, a lot of the old movies, the ones on TCM. I don’t know if that makes me old fashion. I don’t think I am, I think I’m cutting edge and avant guarde.”

(image above: Los Angeles Times)

(Continued below)

Above: Norman Lloyd in 1942's Alfred Hitchcock Thriller Classic, "Saboteur."

(continued)

He reluctantly continues that despite the technical marvels available to film and television, films today simply don’t rival film in its heyday. “Stories are different,” he says. “The culture has changed. But,” he says with a very definite emphasis, “what is missing is the humanity of men like Hitchcock, Renoir, Chaplin. They were humanists – consider what Chaplin did with himself and his heroines, Renoir’s pictures, they were filled with great humanity and now, I just don’t see that.”

The “[technical] process [today] is so brilliant, you can do damn near anything,” he stresses, “but that is taking the place of actually making movies.” In the silent era, Lloyd says, it was explained, “You write with the camera,” and that, “has completely gone out of the movies. Hitchcock said that 'sound was the end of the visual aspect of art in the movies.' He may have been extreme on that, but I understood what he meant. They’ve changed the way they tell stories.”

For fans and viewers interested in some of the best in suspense film, turn into TCM Friday nights in October. Of “Shadow of a Doubt” (a particular BeansTalk favorite), which airs Friday midnight ET.Lloyd says, “it is a suspense picture, but it is also a wonderful reflection of an American town and the mores of the town and social standings.” “Shadow” tells the tightly woven story of an adoring niece, Charile (Teresa Wright) who grows to suspect her beloved uncle, who she is named for (Joseph Cotton, a surprisingly effective villain), is a murderer.

Three other Hitchcock favorites of Lloyd’s include “Psycho,” “alone it in its characteristics; he never made another film like it. You wouldn’t put it on this list, but it’s a brilliant, brilliant film:” “North by Northwest,” and the lesser known “Frenzy,” in which “[Hitchcock] really did some wonderful tricks with the camera.”

Despite what he says about today’s film and television (that he doesn’t watch any of it), he worries he’ll “catch hell” for speaking his mind. Still, Lloyd remains optimistic. “There are still potential innovations in storytelling,” he says. “That’s always possible.”
