PBS' Market Warriors Returns
PBS’ Market Warriors returns on Monday, 7 Jan. 2013, with a new expert and new premieres. These will be airing as part of a back-to-back antique-themed block on Monday nights, alongside Antiques Roadshow (both are produced by the same team and share the same host, Mark L. Walberg). The new episodes of this popular, treasure-hunting series will feature a new competitor, Auctioneer Bene Raia.

Market Warriors returns with new episodes in the new year, beginning Monday, January 7, 2013 at 9/8C PM on PBS New picker Benedicta “Bene” Raia joins popular series
On Monday, January 7 viewers will be treated to a double dose of antiques when brand new episodes of ANTIQUES ROADSHOW and Market Warriors premiere. Market Warriors will start off the new year with the first of nine new episodes. In a game of finding the best antiques at the best price before time runs out, the pickers will be faced with some of their fiercest competition yet when a new competitor is added to the mix. Market Warriors (9/8C) follows ANTIQUES ROADSHOW (8/7C), making Monday nights a true destination for all things antiques and collectibles.
Benedicta “Bene” Raia will be introduced to viewers on Monday, January 7, 2013 in an episode filmed at Iowa’s Walnut Antique Show. Her competitive advantage? As an auctioneer she knows her margins. Bene is a generalist with specific interests in furniture and American folk art, and her core specialty is antique dolls. This mom of four has enjoyed a multifaceted career in antiques and architecture with a focus on the Massachusetts-based auction company she runs with her husband. In her more than 15 years in the business, she has sold at auction highly coveted items belonging to many serious collectors. Bene joins a rotating cast that includes Kevin Bruneau, John Bruno, Miller Gaffney and Bob Richter. Each episode of Market Warriors will feature four pickers.
According to series executive producer Marsha Bemko, “Bene brings to Market Warriors the insights, instincts and true market knowledge of an auctioneer. In her professional life, she sees thousands of antiques and collectibles go through her auction house in any given month and knows the crucial hammer prices that make up the marketplace. It’s a perspective that we wanted to highlight in 2013.”
From the producers of ANTIQUES ROADSHOW—PBS’s most-watched prime-time series—Market Warriors follows antiques pickers on a nationwide treasure hunt, scouring flea markets for antiques and vintage valuables with an eye toward selling their finds for profit at auction. Over the course of nine new, one-hour episodes, viewers will enjoy an up-close look at the fierce competition and obstacles the pickers face in the marketplace each week, as they make their best guesses about who will come out ahead at the end of each episode. Showcasing what different areas of the country have to offer the intrepid antique hunter, the 2013 episodes were filmed at flea markets across the country including Walnut, IA, Long Beach, CA, Chantilly, VA, and Liberty, NC.

About Market Warriors on PBS
In each episode, four pickers travel to different market locations across the country to purchase certain items with a set amount of money. Viewers not only will learn about different objects and their history; they’ll also see the competitors apply their knowledge and skills to real financial transactions. Along the way, we will get to know our pickers, learn about what they bought and why through individual interviews, and discover the current value of the objects as only the marketplace can determine.
The sale of our pickers’ items takes place at an auction on a different day, in a different location. All four competitors watch the auctioneer take charge of the bidding, and the picker whose objects earn the highest total profit at auction is the winner of that episode. The new treasure-hunting series, which launched on PBS in July 2012, reaches 3.5 million viewers every week.
As off-screen host of Market Warriors, Mark L. Walberg provides sharp and informative off-camera commentary. He not only anchors the viewer in the competition but we learn from him the techniques, strategies and sometimes the foibles of the series’ pickers.

"Cougar Town" Moves to TBS
Cougar Town Moves To TBS
New Season of Courteney Cox Series January 8, 2013
Cougar Town is coming to TBS on 8 January 2013. Cougar Town stars Courteney Cox (Friends, Dirt), Brian Van Holt (John from Cincinnati), Christa Miller (The Drew Carey Show), Ian Gomez (Rita Rocks), Josh Hopkins (Ally McBeal), Busy Philipps (Dawson’s Creek, White Chicks) and Dan Byrd (Easy A). The new season is set to premiere Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 10 p.m. (ET/PT), on TBS.
In Cougar Town, a family of friends keeps things funny as they support each other through the challenges and pitfalls of life – with a little dysfunction and a whole lot of wine. Courteney Cox stars as Jules Cobb, a recently remarried mom who is never far from her wine and her group of friends known as the "cul de sac crew." They include her under-achieving ex-husband, Bobby (Brian Van Holt); next-door neighbor and confidante Ellie (Christa Miller); Ellie's loveably average husband, Andy (Ian Gomez); Jules', neighbor-turned-husband Grayson (Josh Hopkins); and Jules' feisty protégé, Laurie (Busy Philipps). Meanwhile, Jules' 21-year-old son, Travis (Dan Byrd), often proves himself more adult than anyone in the group.
In the new season of TBS's Cougar Town, Jules and Grayson are adjusting to married life just as Jules' son, Travis, tries his hand at being a "playah." Meanwhile, Ellie will head back to work, Bobby jumps back into the dating scene and nosey neighbor Tom (Bob Clendenin – Scrubs, TBS's 10 Items or Less) will try his best to become a part of the crew. Along the way, Jules and her group of friends will wrestle with big life issues, like whether it's considered adultery if a married man hooks up with a sex robot or what kind of courage it takes to stick an arm into a muddy hole in order to catch a catfish barehanded.
Cougar Town was co-created by executive producer Bill Lawrence (Scrubs, Spin City) and consulting producer Kevin Biegel (Scrubs). This season, Ric Swartzlander (Gary Unmarried) joins the show as executive producer and showrunner. Courteney Cox and David Arquette also serve as executive producers. Cougar Town is produced by ABC Studios.

New Nirvana Book
Experiencing Nirvana: Grunge in Europe, 1989 Features Dozens of Never-Before Seen Early Photographs of Kurt Cobain and Nirvana's Original Lineup
Sub Pop Founder Bruce Pavitt Returns to Public View with E-Book About Nirvana's Pivotal First European Tour
A Portion of Proceeds From Book Sales Will Go to
The Vera Project in Seattle
Experiencing Nirvana: Grunge in Europe, 1989, a historic photo journal of the band's pivotal first European tour featuring dozens of never-before seen early photographs of Kurt Cobain and Nirvana's original lineup, is now available exclusively on Apple's iBookstore.
Independently published by Sub Pop founder Bruce Pavitt and filled with an unexpected trove of previously unseen photos from his personal collection, the immersive digital book-a "grunge micro-history"-chronicles Nirvana's legendary 1989 maiden voyage overseas from a truly intimate perspective for the first time.
A portion of the proceeds from book sales will go to the Vera Project (http://theveraproject.org/) in Seattle. Vera is an all-ages volunteer fueled music and arts venue. By engaging participants at all levels of music production and community organizing, Vera strives to fulfill its mission to foster a participatory creative culture through popular music concerts, arts programs, experiential learning and volunteer opportunities for all ages, especially young people. Vera's programs are always all ages, with a focus on young people ages 14 to 24.
Pavitt did a "Meet the Author" session at the SOHO Apple Store (103 Prince Street, New York, NY 10012) Friday, November 16, at 7 pm. He did a short reading, a Q&A session with legendary rock journalist Michael Azzarad and fielded questions from the audience. Pavitt then went to the Ace Hotel (20 W 29th Street, New York, NY 10001) and DJ'd a grunge set from 12 am - 2 am.
Experiencing Nirvana: Grunge in Europe, 1989 provides an inside look into a crucial eight-day period in the life of pre-fame Nirvana. Pavitt, who had signed the band to Sub Pop, connected with them in Rome, as they were finishing up a grueling European tour with fellow label-mates Tad. Pavitt followed the bands to London, where Nirvana and Tad would support headlining act Mudhoney to perform the biggest showcase of their careers, "LameFest UK." Nirvana's stunning opening performance that night at the Astoria Theater won over both fans and the influential British music press, and marked the beginning of their ascension from humble opening act to global superstars.
The book's photos, taken by Pavitt with an Olympus pocket camera, were shot randomly and intuitively on venue stages, in dressing rooms, submerged in sweaty roiling crowds and while walking among the great monuments of Europe with a future icon who had only recently tasted life outside of his native Aberdeen. The candid, spontaneously shot images -- sometimes out-of-focus or oddly cropped -- enhance the book's uniquely honest, revealing, and intimate feel. Mojo magazine's Keith Cameron, who was among the press who attended the "LameFest UK" show, penned the forward. The book also includes an interactive map tracing the tour's progress across Europe and reprints of original UK press coverage from 1989.
EW.com spoke with Pavitt about Experiencing Nirvana: Grunge in Europe, 1989. You can check out the interview at http://music-mix.ew.com/2012/11/12/experiencing-nirvana-kurt-cobain-bruce-pavitt/.
The book marks Pavitt's return to the public after moving to Washington state's remote Orcas Island following his departure from Sub Pop in 1996. Pavitt was compelled to create the book following his re-discovery of the photos, his desire to share a truly intimate look into Kurt Cobain's less-chronicled musical adolescence with the world, and to correct the historical misconception of grunge as a soundtrack for anguish and depression instead of the loud, sweaty, joyous and fun music he experienced at its inception.
Pavitt was also driven by recognizing Apple's iBooks Author book creation app as the natural evolution of the DIY 'zine culture where he first cut his teeth. Pavitt and collaborator Dan Burke created the book with iBooks Author, and are self-publishing exclusively on Apple's iBookstore.
