Rap Reunion:
Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, and Warren G reunited with their new album 213: The Hard Way. The collaboration, garnered the group the No. 4 album in the country, charting Top 10 in 70 of the Top 100 markets. The West Coast made THE HARD WAY No.1 on Southern California's charts. The album has also achieved No.1 status for Rap Album, as well as becoming the No.1 Independent Album in the country. <>The album's lead single "Groupie Luv" is a playful funk-drenched anthem introducing listeners to 213’s player side. The DJ Pooh produced song is a radio-friendly record with an undeniable hook. <>

With life long friends, unparalleled talent and an 18-track album full of stellar songs, 213 proves that THE HARD WAY has been well worth the wait. "Nate brought the gangster melodies to the game," Warren G says. "Snoop brought the smooth gangster style to the game. We've had an incredible impact. Now its time for us to reinvent West Coast hip-hop." Stand-out tracks on the album include "Another Summer" produced by Kanye West; "So Fly" a revamped version of R&B singer Monica's hit "So Gone"; and "Joysticc", a head-nodding track inviting female fans to an one-night affair. "It ain't really talked about as a big record coming out this year and ain't nobody really expecting it, but it's a great record with a lot of good songs on it," says Snoop Dogg. THE HARD WAY is one of the many upcoming releases from TVT Records.

Hugh Laurie and Jim Broadbent star in "The Young Visiters" Posted by Hello

TGIF -- More TV info, Carmen Electra and More

BBC America in November: NEW ON BBC AMERICA - November 2004 PRIMETIME HIGHLIGHTS ON BBC AMERICA

THE YOUNG VISITERS [sic] (U.S. premiere original) Academy Award-winner Jim Broadbent (Iris, Moulin Rouge) and Hugh Laurie (Stuart Little, Maybe Baby) star in a colorful, enchanting and eccentric view of adult life and love in Victorian London as seen through the eyes of a nine-year-old girl in BBC AMERICA's original comic moviepremiere, The Young Visiters [sic]. Based on the much-loved Victorian novel, written in 1890 by Daisy Ashford, who wrote (and famously misspelled) the tale when she was just nine-years-old, the comic drama centers on two gentlemen - Alfred Salteena (Jim Broadbent) and Lord Bernard Clark (Hugh Laurie) - as they compete for the favors of a young lady, Ethel Monticue (Lyndsey Marshal, The Hours, The Gathering Storm). Alfred Salteena, "an elderly man of 42," has his heart set a-flutter by his young charge, Ethel, whom he has promised to introduce to the aristocracy. Alfred is only acquainted with one aristocrat - Lord Bernard Clark - and duly arranges to visit him in his rambling Rickamere Hall. Alfred asks Bernard's advice on how to, "gain a place on the right side of the blanket" in order to be in a position to propose to Ethel. Bernard advises him to travel to Crystal Palace to seek tuition from his old chum, the Earl of Clincham played by Bill Nighy (Love Actually, State of Play). This he must do at once. Alfred sets off to see the Earl of Clincham who agrees to help him. And, after being relieved of his life savings, Alfred is sent on a rigorous training course of learning social etiquette, such as how to doff one's hat and the proper use of cutlery. Meanwhile, back at Rickamere Hall, Ethel's head has been turned by the size of Bernard's estate, his butler and his propensity for first class travel. Likewise, Bernard, fighting his conscience, finds himself head-over-heels in love with Ethel, and proposes a wild trip to London. Shortly after their arrival in the metropolis, Bernard can hold himself back no longer. He proposes to Ethel who immediately accepts. Clincham decides to throw a party to celebrate Alfred's progress and invites the highest of society to attend. Bernard is reluctant to go but Ethel, faced with the opportunity of meeting even more lords and ladies, insists on accepting the invitation, which inevitably leads them coming face-to-face with Alfred...The Young Visiters [sic] premieres Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at 8 p.m.

TNT Original: Two-time Golden Globe nominee Kyra Sedgwick (The Woodsman, Loverboy, Cavedweller) has been cast to play the lead Turner Network Television (TNT)'s THE CLOSER, an original dramatic pilot about an elite division of the LAPD, announced Michael Wright, senior vice president of original programming for TNT. THE CLOSER comes to TNT from The Shephard/Robin Company in association with Warner Bros. Television. THE CLOSER is a gripping police drama that tells the story of Deputy Police Chief Brenda Jean Johnson (Sedgwick), an Atlanta police detective who has come to LA to head up a special unit of the LAPD that handles sensitive, high-profile murder cases. War, What it's Good For, Absolutely Nothing: On October 5, 2004, Universal Studios Home Video will release on DVD the critically acclaimed landmark documentary feature THE WAR ROOM, directed by DA Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus, and produced by R.J. Cutler, Wendy Ettinger and Frazer Pennebaker. Nominated for an Academy Award® and the winner of Best Documentary from the National Board of Review, THE WAR ROOM peers behind the closed curtain of modern day politics, reveals the inner sanctum of the 1992 Clinton-for-President Campaign and vividly details how the two political masterminds, James Carville and George Stephanopoulos, changed the way presidential campaigns are run.

Timed to coincide with the 2004 Presidential campaign, the THE WAR ROOM is a timely look at the political campaign process, offering insights into what the John Kerry and George W. Bush campaigns must be like in the last days to win the presidency. An additional bonus feature includes newly recorded remarks from the filmmakers specifically added for this release, wherein they share some of the most memorable stories from their ringside access to the Clinton campaign and the making of this film. The DVD has a suggested retail price of $14.98. The pre-order date is August 31, 2004.

From a cold Primary in New Hampshire to the victory party in Little Rock almost ten months later, THE WAR ROOM takes viewers on a revealing, behind-the-scenes journey to the White House. This insightful look into one of the shrewdest, funniest, most sophisticated political machines ever, takes on new meaning in light of subsequent revelations concerning President Bill Clinton.

At the center of THE WAR ROOM are the two men who guide Clinton’s presidential bid through all of its turmoil: James Carville, the fiery, charismatic, expletive-spewing Cajun who manages the campaign with a mixture of Southern charm and unrelenting passion; and George Stephanopoulos, the brilliant, handsome Rhodes Scholar who, as communications director, calmly but surely mobilizes Clinton’s staff to take the presidency.

Filmmakers Chris Hegedus and DA Pennebaker’s camera follow these two masterminds as they ingeniously maneuver the campaign past the controversy of Gennifer Flowers and the draft-dodging issue through such events as the Democratic National Convention, the debates with George Bush and H. Ross Perot and the final, nail-biting days leading up to the election itself. This is a compelling and enlightening adventure story about two remarkable men, and about the monumental effort, determination and chutzpah that is required to conduct – and win – a political campaign in the modern age.

Arthur, on PBS' new kids block Posted by Hello

Television Schedules, Fall Previews and More

Fun Educational TV: PBS KIDS GO! — A New Destination for Early Elementary School-aged Kids Launching October 11, 2004 4 to 6 p.m. weekdays (check local listings) and weekends, PBS KIDS GO! is a new educational, multimedia destination specifically created by, for and about kids in their early elementary school years — an audience with limited choices for media that is both fun and educational and more importantly, age-appropriate.

PBS KIDS GO! introduces new stars — from MAYA & MIGUEL and POSTCARDS FROM BUSTER —and current popular PBS KIDS’ programs targeted towards older kids, including ARTHUR and CYBERCHASE (new episodes for CYBERCHASE begin this fall, ARTHUR will premiere new episodes in December). Info: www.pbskidsgo.org

THE PROGRAMMING:

MAYA & MIGUEL, from Scholastic Entertainment, presents culture and language learning as fun, relevant and rewarding for all children, with a special emphasis on the Latino population. Lively and colorful, MAYA & MIGUEL chronicles the adventures, and sometimes misadventures, of 10-year-old twins Maya and Miguel Santos and features their family, friends and a richly diverse neighborhood. This never-a-dull-moment situation comedy revolves around Maya’s well-intended meddling in her family’s and friend’s lives, ultimately creating new quandaries to fix. While every episode takes humorous twists and turns, the underlying message is the importance of doing good for the family and community, and the philosophy that shared happiness is greater than personal gain. Sprinkled throughout the series are values of friendship, family and a positive, culturally rich portrayal of Latino family, language and cultures.

POSTCARDS FROM BUSTER, from WGBH Boston and Cookie Jar Entertainment Inc. in association with Marc Brown Studios, is a series spin-off from the popular series ARTHUR. Arthur's friend Buster travels with his father, who is an airline pilot ferrying a Latino rock band, Los Viejeros, on tour around the country and the world. Buster takes along his video camera to send home video postcards to Arthur and his friends and family. POSTCARDS FROM BUSTER mixes animation with live-action shooting to present Buster's point of view, what he sees and who he meets through the lens of his video camera, and to show a vivid, multicultural portrait of America and the world.

ARTHUR, from WGBH Boston and Cookie Jar Entertainment Inc. - - A five-time Emmy Award-winner, this daily half-hour animated series, based on Marc Brown’s best-selling Arthur adventure books, shows how Arthur and his friends use effective, age-appropriate problem-solving skills. Each episode consists of two independent stories focusing on themes and events central to children’s lives. Whether facing down a bully, worrying about a new teacher or being the very last person on earth to lose his baby teeth, Arthur and his friends manage to solve their crises with imagination, kindness and a lot of humor. The series promotes literacy and is complemented by a comprehensive outreach campaign targeted to teachers, librarians, parents and daycare providers.

CYBERCHASE, from Thirteen/WNET New York, Nelvana Limited -- Math rules in the animated adventure series CYBERCHASE. CYBERCHASE energizes kids ages eight-eleven with math power. Full of cyber-mysteries with eye-popping animation and a sly comic flair, the daily series features the voices of Christopher Lloyd and Gilbert Gottfried. CYBERCHASE sends the message that math is fun — it’s about problem solving and, boy, does it come in handy. When the dastardly villain Hacker (Lloyd) launches a mad mission to conquer the virtual universe, Motherboard calls upon three earth kids for help. They are Jackie, Matt and Inez — the culturally diverse heroes of CYBERCHASE — who, along with the wise-cracking cyber-bird Digit (Gottfried), travel from their real-world realm to the colorful virtual vistas of cyberspace, where they vanquish the bad guys in an all-out battle of wits. Each episode takes the kids on a thrilling adventure driven by a different math concept — from tackling time in ancient Egyptian tombs to cracking codes in creepy caves or making sense of numbers in a fractured fairy tale world.

“Death in Holy Orders” -- As the leaves begin to fall so do the bodies in this new adaptation from the pen of Britain’s Queen of Crime, P.D. James. When a seminary student is smothered, his wealthy father moves heaven and earth to force Scotland Yard to re-examine its verdict of accidental death. Commander Adam Dalgliesh (Martin Shaw) is summoned to a scenic coastal college where he unearths an unholy litany of sinister motives lurking beneath the surface of piety and penance.

Episode One -- St Anselm’s is a select High Anglican ecclesiastical college and retreat situated on a remote part of the Suffolk coast. When theology student Ronald Treeves is found smothered under a pile of earth and sand on the beach nearby, it appears that he was the victim of a fall. He demands that Scotland Yard re-examine the verdict of accidental death. Commander Dalgliesh anticipates nothing more than a nostalgic return to old haunts and a straightforward examination of the evidence. No sooner has he scratched the surface than there is another death. Worse is to come. St Anselm’s is a community under threat. Archdeacon Matthew Crampton is intent on closing the college and selling off its assets — news that is met with anger and fear by the tutors, staff and ordinands. On the morning after his arrival, his savagely beaten body is found in the chapel before one of the church’s treasures, a painting of the Last Judgment, which someone has vandalized. Dalgliesh now has a major murder inquiry on his hands.

SECRETS OF THE DEAD -- Today’s scientists, armed with advanced technology and a tireless determination to know the truth, are penetrating myths and legends to arrive at important new conclusions about the causes and consequences of history’s darkest mysteries. Part detective story, part true-life drama, SECRETS OF THE DEAD unearths evidence from across the globe, challenging prevailing ideas and throwing fresh light on unexplained events that have captured popular imagination and confounded scientific theories. Using the latest laboratory and field science, scientists and researchers examine the missing pieces of each puzzle, applying updated techniques and retooled theories, and come away with complex and detailed pictures of what had been merely sketches and suppositions.

Bombing Nazi Dams” (R) (OB: 2/12/03) -- In 1941, the world was at war and the Allies were desperate to slow the tide of Nazi domination. The Germans needed 100 gallons of water to make one ton of steel. Barnes Wallis, a British aircraft designer, set out to develop a unique weapon that would detonate dams — a bomb that could skip across water, cling to its target and explode at a specific depth to deliver its coup de grâce. This program investigates the urgent rush to create, test and deploy the new bomb, and the efforts to train an elite squadron of pilots for the unusually dangerous low-level night flights to drop it far inside enemy lines. Using archival footage, modern tests of the original principles and equipment, and interviews with experts, participants in the raids and their surviving relatives, the program provides insight into the ingenuity of the man who built the bomb under incredible pressure, as well as the dedication and bravery of the airmen from Britain, Canada, America, Australia and New Zealand who risked (and lost) their lives in one of the most daring missions of WWII. /TV-PG/

THE NEW THIS OLD HOUSE HOUR -- America’s favorite home improvement series, the Emmy Award-winning THIS OLD HOUSE, airs in the first half hour of THE NEW THIS OLD HOUSE HOUR. In the second half-hour, ASK THIS OLD HOUSE, host Kevin O’Connor, general contractor Tom Silva, plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey and landscape contractor Roger Cook address specific, viewer-driven home maintenance and repair questions in a dynamic, interactive Q&A format with in-studio demonstrations, new product reviews and “house call” visits.

THIS OLD HOUSE celebrates 25 years of home renovation by going back to its roots. In the first half of the hour, the season opens with host Kevin O’Connor and master carpenter Norm Abram taking a look at the first THIS OLD HOUSE project in Dorchester, Massachusetts, which THIS OLD HOUSE bought, renovated and sold in 1979. This season, THIS OLD HOUSE becomes a homeowner again, with some of the proceeds from the sale of the 25th anniversary centerpiece project endowing a new scholarship for the building arts. To find just the right house, Norm takes Kevin to Carlisle, Massachusetts, a beautiful New England town 20 miles outside of Boston. After looking at several properties, THIS OLD HOUSE decides to take on an 1849 Greek Revival-style farmstead that’s big on charm, but needs a lot of work to be comfortable for a modern family. In the second half of the hour, the first House call takes landscape contractor Roger Cook to Beverly, Massachusetts, where he helps smooth out a few rough edges on a lawn for new homeowners Todd and Chrissy Fratzel. Then it’s up to the ASK THIS OLD HOUSE loft for a lesson or two on drill bits from Tom. While inside, Tom, Roger, Richard, and Kevin ask, “What is it?” Then, Kevin visits the pros — Boston’s own firefighters — to learn all about fire extinguishers.

The Saudi Question” -- The question facing Saudi Arabia, and those dependent on its oil exports, is whether the kingdom will find a path to democratic reform or suffer the consequences of failing to do so. The Saudi kingdom, dangerously at war with itself, controls approximately 20 percent of the world’s oil. It is the fulcrum on which the global economy teeters and the home of Islam’s holiest sites. Despite stringent restrictions on Western media, WIDE ANGLE has obtained first-hand access to the kingdom and its ruling elite. With an introduction to the Saudi Royal family from Prince Turki al-Faisal, former Saudi chief of intelligence and a leading royal reformer, “The Saudi Question” explores whether the Saudi government is capable of making lasting democratic reforms in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks and the US-led invasion of Iraq. The film includes access to Crown Prince Abdullah’s “majlis” — a citizens’ forum where people come to petition or praise the de facto ruler of the kingdom. Also featured is Jamal Khaleefa, brother-in-law of Osama bin Laden and a former close friend who is well acquainted with the threat that Islamic radicalism poses to the kingdom and to the royal family. WIDE ANGLE also speaks with ordinary Saudis, both those who encourage the ruling elite to initiate progressive reforms and the Wahhabist hardliners who preach the destruction of all infidels. “The Saudi Question” sheds valuable light on the obstacles Saudi Arabia faces on the road to reform and the possible ramifications if the kingdom fails to change.
