Bright Whites: Today BeansTalk headed out to the valley (Tarzana, specifically) to visit Dr. Sameer Puri (http://www.socalsmiles.com/), where we experienced the much-heralded The Rembrandt One-Hour Smile Whitening procedure. Our curiosity finally got the best of us – given how many stories we’ve done on teeth whitening (and specifically this treatment), it was wonderful to finally experience the results ourselves.

The procedure offers up fast and uniform whitening results, using a whitening agent and Rembrandt’s Sapphire light, a very high intensity light which accelerates the whitening process. It is not a laser nor does it produce significant heat as some other systems do. The light doesn’t harm teeth. More than 3,00 dentists nationwide are Rembrandt One-Hour Smile Whitening Center dentists. Dentists like Dr. Puri help fight against bleaching relapse, which means a return visit might not be necessary – despite stain-producing daily lattes or red wine with dinner.

Most in-office bleaching procedures, such as the competitor Brite Smile procedure, bleach all the teeth at once. Since some teeth are darker and more stained than others, this technique can cause uneven results. The special curing light used in Rembrandt One-Hour procedure can bleach all teeth at once or one tooth at a time, concentrating on problem teeth. Unfortunately, fillings, crowns, or veneers don’t change color with whitening. Some patients report transient sensitivity in the teeth for a day or two, and even achy teeth later on the day of the bleaching. This is similar to side effects seen with home bleaching, but occurs much less often. In any event OTC pain medication can control this transient problem.

The actual procedure is mildly to irritatingly uncomfortable – a plastic guard is place over the mouth to protect the lips, tongue and gums from contact with the whitening agent. A BeansTalk associate had the procedure done in a Beverly Hills dentist’s office, and despite watching a video and an in-office massage during the procedure, she said she wasn’t likely to repeat it (she experienced a “TMJ-like” problems with her jaw that lasted months). Dr. Puri provides patients with a horn (a real one, like you’d have on your bike) to immediately notify Brenda or Dr. Puri himself if you need them. They checked in with us often, and are perfectly fine with patients who want to end the treatment sooner. We were determined to finish out the treatment for the full effect.

So far, we haven’t experienced any of these post-treatment discomforts and the closest we’ve come to a side-effect is avoiding accidents as we perpetually smile into our rear-view mirror.

After a Rembrandt One-Hour Smile Whitening procedure, Dr. Puri – and other Rembrandt dentists, -- provide patients with revolutionary low-abrasion Rembrandt Plus Toothpaste with Peroxide, clinically proven to maintain the new whiteness of teeth (and it can also be used as a smart everyday fluoride toothpaste). It’s actually a cute little kit in a silver mesh cosmetic bag filled with Rembrandt goodies.

In addition, Rembrandt One-hour Whitening contains a desensitizing agent that helps eliminate the sensitivity people often experience during a professional tooth bleaching procedure. Sarah Michelle Gellar, Noah Wyle, Calista Flockhart, Lisa Kudrow, Helena Bonham-Carter, and Regis Philbin have been quoted as noting that they use Rembrandt Oral Care Products.

Q&A from Rembrandt:

What causes tooth discoloration?
Discoloration may be the result of genetics, medication, poor oral hygiene, aging, smoking, certain foods and beverage or a combination of these factors.

Are you a good candidate for tooth whitening?
People with most types of discoloration can achieve lighter teeth through the Rembrandt One-hour Whitening Program. The type of stain you have will affect how much whitening you will experience.

What is Rembrandt Lightening Gel?
Rembrandt lightening Gel is a sensitivity-free, 35% hydrogen peroxide formula.

Is this whitening procedure safe?
Absolutely! When used under the supervision of your dental professional, the procedure is safe and will not harm teeth or gums.

What is involved in the procedure?
The dental professional will use either the Rembrandt Virtuoso or Rembrandt Sapphire Light, in conjunction with the lightening Gel.

Will I have to wear a mouth tray?
No. this is a one visit procedure.

How do I keep my smile white and bright?
Daily brushing with Rembrandt Plus Toothpaste.

It’s Natalie: Last night, TBS's reality series OUTBACK JACK came to a conclusion when Jack (athlete-outdoorsman Vadim Dale) chose Louisville, Kentucky, native Natalie as the woman of his dreams. OUTBACK JACK, from Bruce Nash's Nash Entertainment (Meet My Folks, For Love or Money, Who Wants To Marry My Dad?), put a group of pampered city women to the test as they vied for the affections of their rugged leading man. The series, hosted by JD Roberto (Shop Til You Drop, Shark Chasers), combined fish-out-of-water comedy with romantic adventure. The finale of OUTBACK JACK opened with Jack and the remaining two women, Natalie and Marissa, arriving at their last camp via hot air balloon. This ocean-front camp, however, has its share of bugs to contend with, not to mention wind gusts that nearly destroy the women's tent. After a day of flying in a seaplane, snorkeling, frolicking in the surf, riding around the beach in an ATV and hitting the water in kayaks, Jack made his final choice, saying goodbye to Marissa and asking Natalie to sail away with him into the sunset on a 70-foot catamaran.

Sinatra on DVD: Frank Sinatra Show With Ella Fitzgerald

Available on DVD October 26, 2004 Through Music Video Distributors

Known as “The Golden Age of Television”, the fifties made way for big name stars like Charlie Chaplin and Frank Sinatra. Much of their success was due to the arrival of television variety shows. Most of the performers had honed their comedic skills on vaudeville stages, and they were ready to take these vaudeville-structured revues to television. On December 10, 1959, a rare rainy day in Palm Springs, California (hence the improvised sets and the cast ribbing Sinatra about his grand idea of filming in a “sunny” Palm Springs), The Frank Sinatra Show was filmed. This program is remastered from the archive tape of broadcast, and is the original show in its entirety including the sponsors promotional segments. With the special addition of guest star Ella Fitzgerald, it is a rare and glorious account of two of the most popular performers of the Twentieth Century

Passionate Voice: Singer/songwriter/instrumentalist Lisbeth Scott who co-wrote lyrics and provided solo vocals for the score to “The Passion of the Christ,” is now a solo artist. Scott will release her newest album, "Passionate Voice," inspired by her work on The Passion of the Christ, which is currently in stores through Burnside Distribution on Zone Records.

The Passion of the Christ soundtrack hit #1 on both the Soundtrack and Christian charts and climbed to #17 on Billboard's Top 200 in just two weeks. Mel Gibson (director, producer and co-writer of The Passion) said the score made the film "ten times better." The score was recorded in London, mixing Scott's vocals with a full orchestra and choir conducted by The Passion of the Christ composer John Debney.

Lisbeth Scott's singing voice has been featured in hit films including Shrek, Shrek 2, The Scorpion King, Spy Games, The Sixth Sense and the trailer for Troy. Her original songs and vocal performances have also been heard on television shows, including Alias, Survivor, Touched By An Angel, and MTV's Road Rules. She has spent the last four years performing in Europe and Asia, touring the West Coast, and recording and working with some of Hollywood's top film composers and musicians.

CNN filmed a piece about the classically-trained Lisbeth that aired internationally for four months, featuring her as the next in a long line of talented contemporary female singer/songwriters to make their mark in Hollywood. As an instrumentalist, she plays keyboards, guitar, and djembe. She has meshed cultures by singing in Armenian on past albums, Aramaic for The Passion of the Christ, and Latin for Paul Schwartz's album, "State of Grace," a Windham Hill/RCA release. Her solo release, "Dove" (2002), featuring members of The Seattle Symphony, hit #2 on the NAR charts.

Sad News: As suspected, it was revealed in today’s news that BeansTalk acquaintance Eric Douglas, did indeed, die from an overdose of alcohol and prescription drugs. Whatever the afterlife brings him, we hope it’s the solace he never seemed to find in life.
