So, Ergo Essencia: One of the yummiest candle lines available (if you can afford it) is the Er'Go line. They're soy, they smell gorgeous and are great to mix and match and use for your own home spa treatments.

TROPICAL INDULGENCES: Lush floral GINGERLEI and fruity COCONUT PINEAPPLE fragrant candles from Er'Go are a nice compliment to an anti-oxidant, enzyme-rich facial treatment: Mix a small can of crushed pineapple with fresh, plain yogurt. Slather the tropical smoothie on the face and allow to treat for ten minutes. Splash off with tepid water for instant refreshment (umbrella drink is optional). Or, light up Er'Go MACADAMIA and create a natural body scrub by grinding fresh macadamia nuts in a coffee grinder, and mixing with oatmeal and warm water. Get in the tub and slough the body, as you breathe in the fresh, clean nutty scent. Er’go's all-natural soy candles banish winter chill with over 100 sumptuous scents. $18 to $25 retail. To see other Er'go fragrances, visit www.ergocandle.com.

EXTREME MAKEOVER: By mid-winter, every home needs an instant makeover to lift depressed spirits. Fruits and Passions Influence Decorative Fragrance Ensemble releases a steady infusion of fragrance into the air, while adding elegant decorator touches to every room in the house. The exotic, Zen ensemble is highlighted by its organic bamboo scent sticks, recycled wood lid, and cubic glass shape, while the bamboo-hibiscus fragrance oil transports one to a tropical jungle, the air redolent with the fresh, dewy fragrance of the abundant flora. This home fragrance is not a candle, nor incense, so it will safely create a welcoming oasis 24 hours a day. The collection also includes home fragrance sprays, scented candles, and incense. $12 to $45 retail. See it all at www.fruits-passion.com.

SPA RETREAT TREATS: Essencia’s co-founder, aromatherapist, and product creator Juliana Lipe has created two easy pampering recipes that can be mixed with simple ingredients from your grocery store shelves. Retreat from winter’s harshness with this refinishing face masque and moisturizing tropical bath.

Formulated by Juliana Lipe, co-founder of Essencia:

Strawberry Nut Citrus Masque

4-5 fresh, ripe strawberries
1 T fresh lemon juice
2 T cashews, ground to a butter consistency
1/4 c plain yogurt
1 T honey
2 drops Lemon Essential Oil (optional, available from Essenciaonline.com)

Puree strawberries with a fork and sprinkle with lemon juice. Grind the cashews in a coffee grinder. Blend all together with yogurt, honey and Lemon Essential Oil. Smooth onto dampened face, neck and chest, and relax for 10 minutes! Splash face with cool water to remove, and gently pat skin dry.

Strawberries and lemon juice are both high in Vitamin C and Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), which slough off the dead skin cells to expose the new living cells and stimulate cell regeneration. The lactic acid in yogurt also contributes natural AHAs, and the fats and oils from the cashews add softness and moisture, while Vitamin C increases circulation in the skin and fights free radicals.

This recipe makes enough for two face applications and can be kept in the refrigerator for several days. Or, use once as an all over body masque, then shower off, with cool or lukewarm water.

Coconut Milk Bath

1 cup cream of coconut milk
1 cup whipping cream
1/2 cup whole oats, finely ground
1/4 cup honey
2 oz. glycerin (optional, available in pharmacy section of grocery store)
5-6 drops of Lavender or Roman Chamomile Essential Oil (optional, available from Essenciaonline.com)

Gently warm milk, cream and honey over low heat. Grind oats in coffee grinder or blender, and stir oats and glycerin into warmed milk mixture. Add COCONUT BATH into a warm tub, just before slipping into a rich, luxurious, softening soak.

The rich fat content in the milk and whipping cream is extremely moisturizing. Honey is a humectant that attracts moisture, and keeps it trapped in the skin, while Oatmeal soothes dry, tender skin. The glycerin makes the formula a bit silkier, while the optional essential oils add their relaxing properties.

If you prefer a ready-to-use treatment, try Essencia’'s COCOA BUTTER BATH MILK, a lush jar of skin-softening milk powders that incorporates Cocoa Butter and grated soap fragranced with Lavender, Geranium and Ylang Ylang Essential Oils for a silky sweet, soothing bath. 1.7 oz. jar, $9.50; 4.6 oz jar, $22 retail. Discovery: Egyptologist Kent Weeks' discovery and possible identification of a skull he believes could be that of Rameses firstborn son, who may have been killed during the 10th plague described in Exodus. Discovery Channel funded Weeks' expedition, which blends archaeology, state-of-the-art digital technology and the latest in forensic science to determine the identity of the skull and its possible place in history. Weeks' findings, along with award-winning Middle Eastern correspondent Charles Sennott's epic travels across Egypt, are revealed in Rameses: Wrath Of God Or Man? scheduled to air during EGYPT WEEK on Sunday, December 5, 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. (ET/PT). Dr. Weeks and a crew of forensic scientists, historians and biblical scholars intent on learning more about the skull, and the possibility that its discovery and identification could offer a different perspective on the biblical story of Exodus.

In 1995, Dr. Weeks uncovered the main section of KV 5, a massive "lost tomb" in Egypt’s Valley of the Kings, a discovery hailed by many as the most important since King Tut. Subsequently, Dr. Weeks uncovered a skull in KV 5 that he believes could be that of the firstborn son of Rameses the Great, who has been referred to as the pharaoh depicted in Exodus. Purportedly ordered by God to allow the Israelites to leave Egypt, Rameses dared to resist. As his punishment, 10 terrible plagues came down upon the land, bringing destruction and pestilence. The final “and most deadly” was the 10th plague, which killed every Egyptian family’s firstborn male, including the pharaoh’s own beloved son. The skull in question shows signs of a violent death, leading experts to ponder, "Could Rameses' son have been killed not by the hand of God, but by the hand of man?"

Peanuts: United Media and JEM Sportswear are introducing a very special series of T-shirts that manage to be both fashion-forward and delightfully retro at the same time: Vintage Peanuts. Now, Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus, Lucy, Schroeder and the gang star in their own line of chic, contemporary designs available exclusively at Kitson. (They will also be available at Nordstrom and Lord & Taylor after the first of the year.) Kitson currently has the T-shirts featured in their window. Lindy Newton, star of the upcoming Hallmark TV special “Thicker than Water,” served as Kitson’s model. (Lindy’s credits also include “The Notebook” and “Radio.”)

You Can Never Have Enough Jeans

Yes, We Need a New Jean: Frank Mechaly, redefines couture “distressed” with the introduction of 575 Denim, a vintage-inspired denim line.

Mechaly'’s “"jeanology"” spans three generations, with his father, David Mechaly, at the helm of Blue Cult. In 2000, at the age of 28, Frank moved from his native France to join the family business, spawning his own signature collection for Blue Cult called Sacred Blue. After two years as the creative force, Mechaly partnered with Shaun Hurley, an executive member of the Sacred Blue sales team. The partnership has fostered the birth of 575.

Mechaly and Hurley have created a full line of hand finished denim for men and women. From the wash, to the sanding, grinding, open ended seems, and vintage rivets and buttons, the wear and tear is done for purpose. “The Painter” is splattered with white paint, “The Farmer” appears to have been through many a day’s work. Each style is the essence of “one-of-a-kind,” with a unique flare and phenomenal fit for every “body.” 575 Denim will launch on January 1, 2005, with initial availability at Barneys New York.

His new mural Manifest Destiny (2003–2004) depicts the Brooklyn waterfront 3,000 years in the future, after global climate change has raised the sea level by 82 feet. The artist collaborated with NASA scientists, archaeologists, ecologists, and architects to develop this ominous image of a future populated by plants and animals that thrive in human-disrupted environments.

Bounce to these Dryer Bags: Stress and tension melt away with brand-new dryer bags from Essencia, consumers can infuse their clothes, laundry and linens with aromatherapy.

Unlike scented laundry detergents or fabric softeners that fill laundry with an artificial, chemically formulated fragrance, Essencia’s brand-new dryer bags are filled with natural Lavender or Chamomile. This means that not only is the fragrance all-natural, but created with essential oils, making dryer bags a mood-altering aromatherapy product, as opposed to something that just makes your laundry smell fresh.

Natural Lavender and Chamomile Flower Buds only are sealed into porous paper bags that look like large tea bags. When tossed in the dryer with wet laundry, the dryer bag infuses your laundry with aromatherapy. The heat from the dryer releases the essential oils, while the spinning action disperses the benefits throughout the dryer. These are NOT fabric softeners, rather an ingenious delivery system for aromatherapy, and each bag can be reused up to five times. These bags will infuse clothes with a lasting subtle fragrance that will keep you calm, cool and collected all day.

Unlike fragrance sprays that can evaporate quickly off of fabrics, the aromatherapy permeates into laundry for long-lasting stress relief. And, unlike alcohol-filled sprays that can damage delicates, the essential oils from the dryer bags will NOT damage linens or fine fabrics, because of the structure of the bags. They just impart their clean, fresh aromatherapy to laundry, creating long-lasting, calming environments. These bags are ideal for freshening up laundry and linens that have been in storage, freshen your spring clothes and lighter bed linens with a dash of lavender and chamomile.

They’re available in LAVENDER or CHAMOMILE, and individually, for $2.50, or in packs of three for $8. All Essencia products are made of the finest natural ingredients and essential oils. Essencia skincare can be found at specialty beauty stores and spas nationwide, and on www.essenciaonline.com.

Madina Milano Joins Victoria's Secret: Italy’s leading cosmetic line Madina Milano has joined forces with Victoria’s Secret to launch their cosmetic line across the US. The launch will take place in leading metropolitan cities across the United States such as Los Angeles, CA., Houston, Tx., Shorthills, New Jersey this week.

Christian Concas, Madina Milano’s top “Color Artist” will be on hand in each city at select Victoria’s Secret boutiques providing demonstrations while educating the public on current make-up trends as seen during Milan Fashion Week at Moschino and Marni to name a few. An innovative force, Madina brings her own feminine creativity and modern day trends to each of her products. Color creation is not a visionary process – it is rooted in the trends of fashion, while also allowing originality and personal sensations, emotions, fantasies and experiences to enter the application. Several inputs come into the creative process, ranging from fashion, trends, journeys, art and design as well as nature.

Madina Ferrari got her start as a theatrical art director eventually making her way to the La Scala opera house in Milan. Following her passion for art and color, she made the transition into the world of cosmetics where she started her own line in 1995. With the mission of creating an entirely new color spirit, including vanity, candor, flirting, fantasy, classic, and classic with a twist, Madina’s love for color in all of its combinations allowed her to create color schemes that were almost unimaginable to the mainstream market.

A number of Madina Milano’s products available at Victoria’s Secret include Shimmer Bonzer, an ultra lightweight baked powder containing pearl that creates a subtle shimmering luminous finish, Fashion Blush – two palettes created to contour cheeks with a sheer touch of color and Absolute Eyeshadow – a blendable and modular pressed eyeshadow just to name a few.

What Smells So Good?

Influence

The INFLUENCE collection from Fruits & Passions is comprised of five fragrant products.

Decorative, Ecological and Reusable
Inspired by the cubic forms and straight lines of contemporary architecture, these products are formulated with ecological ingredients. For example, the wood used in the production of the INFLUENCE collection (i.e. candle, decorative ensemble, fragrant spray and perfumed oil covers) is derived using an ecological technology that protects the future of natural forests.

The products have also been designed to have secondary uses. The fragrant spray cap, for instance, may be used as a candleholder; the candle container may serve as a vase; and the cases for the incense set and the decorative ensemble boxes can store little treasures and mementos.

Products include

Bamboo-Hibiscus Decorative Scented Ensemble
Bamboo-Hibiscus Home Fragrance Mist
Bamboo-Hibiscus Incense Kit
Bamboo-Hibiscus Perfumed Candle
Bamboo-Hibiscus Perfumed Oil
Influence Decorative Scented Ensemble Refill
Influence Diffuser
Influence Diffuser Set

Founded in August 1992 by Messrs. Jean Hurteau and Guy Hurteau and Ms. France Ménard, Fruits & Passions initially produced and marketed a product line that, at the time, consisted of foaming bath, glycerine soap, body milk lotion and bath oil offered in 18 fruity fragrances.
The Fruits & Passion concept is that is both ecological and highly progressive, manifested in a comprehensive line of fruit-scented products designed to appeal to all five senses. Today the company features a network of over 75 boutiques in Canada, France, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Kuwait and 30 different product lines. Posted by Hello

Tuesday Tune In

Kitchen Paramedics: Congealed mayonnaise, bad oysters, mouldy meat - these are just some of the horrors that await celebrated UK chef, Gordon Ramsay, in BBC America's all-new U.S. premiere series, “Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares,” Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at 9:p.m. ET/PT. Every week Gordon attempts to save a different restaurant and spares no-one in his attempt to do so. Already signed up to appear in the US next year with his reality show Hell's Kitchen, BBC AMERICA is bringing viewers their first taste and unique opportunity to witness Gordon's passion for food and infamous lack of patience with sloppy standards in the kitchen.

Multi-award winning chef Gordon Ramsay’s three London restaurants hold Michelin stars, Europe's highest and most coveted restaurant accolade. Famous for his explosive personality, straight-talking and colorful language, Gordon leaves behind his celebrity patrons and attempts to save four struggling UK restaurants. His advice is blunt, the action is swift, and there is no room for compromise. Each week as he takes on a failing restaurant, Gordon's infamous fiery temper is truly tested with lazy chefs, waiters with bad breath and restaurant owners who just don't care.

From Britain's beautiful Lake District to a former Michelin-rated restaurant in Wales, Gordon brings his expertise to kitchens that badly need his help. There's Head Chef Tim who can't make an omelette; the waiter whose breath stinks; the chef who insists on deep-frying everything; a restaurant that reminds Gordon of a morgue - not to mention the rancid scallop that makes him gag. It's no surprise that the dining rooms are empty every night and that the owners are losing money. His legendary standards of excellence, and his methods for achieving them, have made him the most feared but revered chef in Britain today.

Directed and produced by Christine Hall, Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares is an Optomen Television production with executive producer Pat Llewellyn (The Naked Chef).

Quotes from Gordon in the series include:

- Referring to duck à l'orange, "It's the culinary equivalent to flared trousers... they don't care about customers and every dining room needs to care about customers otherwise they don't come f**king back!"

- "Hygiene? This kitchen is about as clean as a puppy's litter tray."

- Referring to an undercooked fish-stew and mussels that haven't been washed properly, "...boring, very boring. You've got to move on...create excitement constantly when you're charging these prices....if someone served that in my restaurant, I'd go f***king berserk".

- "The key to a successful restaurant is regular communication between the management and the Head Chef."

- "Gary is a real arrogant little f**ker but at least he can speak. Unlike Stefano that can't even run a f**king bath let alone a f**king kitchen."

Science Fiction Facts: The largest number in the world is around 45 billion. The brain is a wrinkled bag of skin filled with warm water, veins and thought muscles. Germs originated in Germany before rapidly spreading to the rest of the world.

Discover even more scientifically-arousing 'facts' as BBC AMERICA presents a BAFTA-nominated original spoof comedy, Look Around You, premiering Thursdays beginning December 2, 2004 at 10:40 p.m. ET/PT. In a send-up of school science films from the late '70s and early '80s, Look Around You celebrates everything kitsch and cliché about old school science education - complete with synthesized music, soothing acoustic guitar interludes and bushy-haired scientists (Peter Serafinowicz and Robert Popper).

Look Around You comprises eight different 'scientific' modules - math, water, germs, ghosts, sulphur, music, iron and the brain. Series narrator, Nigel Lambert, dispenses outlandishly flawed lessons and surprising information not found in any school textbook...for good reason.

In each module, our friendly scientists conduct a series of experiments and encourage you, the student, to participate and take notes in your copybooks. Among the fascinating lessons, you'll examine the effectiveness of ants as igloo builders, find out how man and ghost can work together and observe how a modern song is composed using a Harrington 1200 computer.

Look Around You became an instant cult comedy favorite in the UK, garnering nominations for both a BAFTA and a British Comedy Award.
