Jeff Bridges Takes On Talk Shows

Oscar-winning singer, songwriter and musician (and BeansTalk fave) Jeff Bridges will make several high-profile television appearances in August to support his upcoming self-titled album, which will be released by Blue Note Records on August 16, 2011.

The Crazy Heart star will perform on The Today Show on August 16, 2011; Live! With Regis & Kelly on August 17, 2011, and The Colbert Report on August 17, 2011. Bridges will interviewed on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight during the week of August 16, 2011 (air-date TBA). He will also perform in an episode of Austin City Limits to air on PBS this fall. For those who can't wait for August, AOL Music will premiere an album trailer, including extensive footage from the recording sessions, on July 12, 2011.

Bridges has also announced a series of live shows for August, including a performance at the American Thunder Music Festival during the 2011 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Bridges recently received stellar reviews for his show at The Troubadour in West Hollywood. The Hollywood Reporter noted that the show was not about “just another movie star with aspirations of conquering a second medium but a heartfelt and long-in-coming chance to perform,” while LAWeekly wrote that “it’s in the way Bridges manipulates the emotion, particularly on his newer tunes, that positions him as anything but an actor getting his rocks off by having people hear him sing.” HitFix.com wrote that Bridges “is a natural in front of a live audience” and turned the nightclub “into his living room,” while Reuters opined that “Bridges convincingly played a washed-up country singer in Crazy Heart. In real life, Bridges is just as credible promoting his first album for a major label.”

Jeff Bridges is produced by the actor and musician’s long-time friend and Crazy Heart collaborator, the multiple-Grammy Award-winning songwriter, musician, and producer T Bone Burnett, who is known for his work with Allison Krauss and Robert Plant, Elton John and Leon Russell, and the Grammy-winning soundtracks to O Brother, Where Are Thou?, and Walk the Line. Bridges and Burnett have been friends since meeting during the filming of the motion picture Heaven’s Gate in 1980. Burnett selected the songs that appeared on the soundtrack to the 1998 film The Big Lebowski, starring Bridges, and co-wrote several songs for the soundtrack to Crazy Heart, including “The Weary Kind,” which received the 2009 Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Recorded in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, CA, Jeff Bridges features material by Burnett’s Crazy Heart collaborators, the late Stephen Bruton and John Goodwin, Greg Brown, and Bo Ramsey, as well as several of Bridges’ own compositions. Players on the album include keyboardist Keefus Ciancia, guitarist Marc Ribot, bassist Dennis Crouch, pedal-steel guitarist Russ Pahl, and drummer Jay Bellerose, as well as guest vocalists Rosanne Cash, Ryan Bingham, Sam Phillips, and Benji Hughes.
