Beginning October 8 (street date), PAPA will celebrate the release of their debut full-length Tender Madness with a series of events in Los Angeles. The week-long celebration will include an in-store performance at the independent record outfit Fingerprints, The Tender Madness Pop-Up Gallery, the release ofDarren Weiss’ book The Only Thing Worse Than a Woman is A Man, and lastly, “An Evening of Experimental Drumming with Darren Weiss” presented by Origami Records. See below for further details on each happening.

October 8, 7 p.m., 420 E 4th Street Long Beach, CA—Fingerprints Free In-store. Pre-order the album to attend the performance by calling 562.433.4996.

October 9, 8 p.m., 1310 Glendale Boulevard—The Tender Madness Pop-Up Gallery. The gallery will show works from Darren Weiss as well as artists PAPA has been inspired by and collaborated with, including Travis Schneider (who shot both the album cover as well as the EP cover), Sam Monkarsh, Nick Darmstaedtr, Mike Gittes, Mike Gigliotti, David Kitz and more. Sean Carlson, Evan Weiss, and Hit City USA will be DJing.

The gallery will also support the release of Weiss’ book The Only Thing Worse Than A Woman Is A Man (published by Hit City USA). The book is a collection of Weiss’ poetry and drawings over the past three years, pulled mostly from the notebooks he keeps as a totem on the road.

October 11, 7 p.m., 1816 W Sunset Boulevard—Origami Records presents: “An Evening of Experimental Drumming with Darren Weiss.” This is a free event, and the first 20 people will get a signed 7” from PAPA.

Tender Madness will be released October 8 via Loma Vista. The new recording follows PAPA’s recent double A-side 7” single  “Put Me to Work/If You’re My Girl Than I’m Your Man” as well as their 2011 EP A Good Woman is Hard to Find, which received critical acclaim from Pitchfork and NYLON, with Los Angeles Times calling it “oft deep and deliberate.” The latest video for the track “Young Rut” is streaming now at http://vevo.ly/V7lhUi and the band is currently on a nationwide tour supporting Cold War Kids. See below for full tour routing.

Of, the new record multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Weiss notes, “Some of the songs on this album that come across as love songs, or lustful confessions have much more to do with my feelings towards America than any personal romantic longings. Some love songs were written about fictional characters in novels who were oftentimes far more compelling than the creatures I had access to. And sometimes, perhaps most often, I tried in earnest to tell my truths as I lived them.”

PAPA is the brainchild of Weiss and co-songwriter and bassist Danny Presant. Their celebrated live performances have resulted in a string of sold out shows in and around Los Angeles, as well as New York City, San Francisco and London. Additionally, the band has toured extensively, including runs with Girls, Lord Huron, Grouplove, and appeared at festivals such as Outside Lands and FYF Festival.
