<> <>Final Jack: OUTBACK JACK The Big Finale Tuesday, August 10 9 p.m. (ET/PT) The day of decision has finally arrived, and Jack must choose which woman is the one for him as TBS’s wild new reality series OUTBACK JACK comes to an end with an eye-opening finale Tuesday, August 10, at 9 p.m. (ET/PT). OUTBACK JACK, from Bruce Nash’s Nash Entertainment (Meet My Folks, For Love or Money, Who Wants To Marry My Dad?), puts a group of pampered city women to the test as they vie for the affections of their rugged leading man. The series, hosted by JD Roberto (Shop Til You Drop, Shark Chasers), combines fish-out-of-water comedy with romantic adventure, making for plenty of fun twists and turns.

The finale of OUTBACK JACK opens with Jack (athlete-outdoorsman Vadim Dale) and the remaining two women arriving at their last camp via hot air balloon. This ocean-front camp, however, has wind gusts that nearly destroy the women’s tent.

On day one of their stay at the beach-front camp, Jack takes the first woman on an all-day date, flying in a seaplane, then snorkeling and frolicking in the surf. The following day, the other woman gets a shot at Jack as they ride around the beach on ATVs before hitting the water in kayaks. All the while, the two women make the best play possible for Jack’s affections, but in the end, he can only choose one.

OUTBACK JACK closes with a quick recap of Jack and the women’s incredible journeys together, climaxing with his final choice of the woman who has come from the city to melt the heart of the rugged outdoorsman.

Entourage Already Renewed: HBO has renewed the new comedy series

ENTOURAGE for a second season, it was announced today by Carolyn

Strauss,

president, HBO Entertainment. A look at the life of a young star and

his

buddies in Hollywood, the eight-episode first season kicked off last

Sunday.

Production on additional episodes will begin later this year, with the

second season to launch in 2005 on HBO.

“ENTOURAGE is already shaping up as both a critical and subscriber

smash,” said Strauss. “I can’t wait to see what kind of stories

creator

Doug Ellin and his talented team will tell in the second season.”

From executive producer Mark Wahlberg, the new eight-episode comedy

series kicked off last Sunday, July 18 (10:00-10:30 pm ET), exclusively

on

HBO. Wahlberg also makes a cameo appearance in the first episode of

the

show, which draws on the experiences of industry insiders.

The show has already sparked critical praise, with TV Guide hailing

the show as “smart” and “seriously funny,” while Entertainment Weekly

calls

it “hilarious” and “packed firm with laughs.” The New York Times

raves,

“Nothing on network television is as smart, original and amusing,”

adding,

“The send-up of Hollywood mores and manners is merciless.”

Filmed at Hollywood locations, ENTOURAGE tells the story of Vince, a

sexy young movie star whose career is just taking off. To share the

fun of

the ride and keep him grounded, Vince looks to Eric, Drama and Turtle,

his

longtime pals from Queens. Together they experience the highs and lows

of

life in the fast lane of Hollywood, where the stakes are higher, and

the

money and temptations greater, than ever before.

Adrian Grenier (“The Adventures of Sebastian Cole,” “Drive Me

Crazy”) stars as Vince, who slips easily into stardom. Kevin Connolly

(“The

Notebook,” “Antwone Fisher”) plays Eric, who’s learning the rules of

Hollywood as he tries to help Vince make the right choices. Kevin

Dillon

(“The Doors,” “Platoon”) plays Vince’s half-brother Drama, whose own

acting

aspirations have been eclipsed by Vince’s success. Jerry Ferrara

(“NYPD

Blue,” “Cross Bronx”) plays Turtle, the least experienced of the group,

who’s always up for a good time. Jeremy Piven (“Old School,” “The

Larry

Sanders Show”) plays Ari, Vince’s aggressive, high-powered agent, who

clashes with Eric over his client’s decisions.

Along with Mark Wahlberg, cameo appearances in the first season of

ENTOURAGE include Jessica Alba, Gary Busey, Larry David, David

Faustino,

Sara Foster, Val Kilmer, Jimmy Kimmel, Sarah Silverman and Luke Wilson.

ENTOURAGE is created by Doug Ellin; executive produced by Mark

Political Tourist: Hundreds of state fairs to visit, thousands of babies to kiss,

millions of hands to shake... What does it takes to become President

of the

United States of America?

Alexandra Pelosi’s DIARY OF A POLITICAL TOURIST, chronicling her

two-year road trip on the Democratic campaign trail—from the

candidates’

announcements, through the early primaries, to Super Tuesday and the

convention—follows presidential wannabes as they make their run for

the

White House when the exclusive HBO documentary debuts MONDAY, OCT. 11

at

8:00 p.m. (ET).

Following the 2002 HBO documentary “Journeys with George,” Pelosi’s

irreverent account of George W. Bush on the campaign trail, she set out

on

the road again with a handful of distinguished men competing to see who

could eat the most pies, raise the most money and get the most votes to

become the Democratic Party nominee. An action-packed adventure

criss-crossing America, her video diary reveals the fun, the

exhaustion, the

pain, the shame, the tears, the absurdity, the hard work and the ego

that go

into challenging the leader of the free word.

DIARY OF A POLITICAL TOURIST offers a rare bird’s-eye view of the

political process, departing from the official version to reveal the

inner

workings of democracy. Featured in the special are General Wesley

Clark,

Governor Howard Dean, Senator John Edwards, Congressman Dick Gephardt,

Senator Bob Graham, Senator John Kerry and Senator Joe Lieberman, with

cameo

appearances by President George W. Bush.

During the first year, Pelosi taped Democratic contenders as they

made their debuts on the campaign trail in Iowa and New Hampshire. She

summered in Iowa, visiting hog lots with John Kerry, peering inside

John

Edwards’ bus and refrigerator, observing pie-eating contests with Dick

Gephardt, tasting deep-fried Twinkies at the Iowa State Fair with Joe

Lieberman, and riding along in Bob Graham’s RV, singing his theme song.

In

the fall, she taped and witnessed the rise and demise of Howard Dean.

From

the Iowa Caucuses through Super Tuesday, Pelosi followed each of the

leading

contenders as America voted them off the ballot.

As a “political tourist,” Pelosi brings her unique perspective and

humorous style to the quest to find out what it takes to become the

sole

survivor in the race for the West Wing. Among the memorable campaign

moments she captures on tape are Gephardt’s “Gephardtpalooza” in Iowa;

Lieberman efforts to create “Joe-mentum” in New Hampshire; “Grillin’

with

the Grahams”; Dean’s nationwide “Sleepless Summer Tour”; and Edwards’

bus

tour on the “Real Deal Express.”

Alexandra Pelosi began her career in television covering politics in

Washington, D.C., and subsequently served as a network news producer

for

five years. For her first film, 2002’s “Journeys with George,” Pelosi

spent

18 months with the candidate and journalists on the campaign trail,

covering

the closest and most controversial presidential election in history.

She is

the daughter of Nancy Pelosi, California Democratic congresswoman and

House

minority leader.

DIARY OF A POLITICAL TOURIST is written, directed and produced by

Alexandra Pelosi; edited by Juliet Weber and Geof Bartz. For HBO:

supervising producer, Lisa Heller; executive producer, Sheila Nevins.

Rodriguez, this explosive sequel to “Desperado” stars Antonio Banderas,

Salma Hayek, Johnny Depp, Mickey Rourke, Eva Mendes, Danny Trejo,

Iglesias, Marco Leonardi and Cheech Marin with Rubén Blades and Willem

Dafoe.

recovering alcoholic who inherits her father’s beloved house, and loses

it

through a tax mistake to a proud Iranian immigrant (Ben Kingsley) on

the

brink of financial ruin. The moody drama was nominated for three

Oscars®,

including Best Actor (Kingsley), Best Actress in a Supporting Role

(Shohreh

Aghdashloo) and Best Music, Original Score. Screenplay by Vadim

Perelman

Jada

Pinkett Smith star in this spectacular finale to the blockbuster sci-fi

trilogy.

In addition, CINEMAX presents all three “Matrix” films back-to-back

abroad, going outside the Hollywood mainstream for the best in

independent

films. Included on the slate for the second half of 2004 are THIRTEEN,

LE

DIVORCE, SHATTERED GLASS, THE COOLER and GIRL WITH A PEARL EARRING.

In THIRTEEN (Aug. 5), the teenage daughter of a single mother gets

mixed up with the wrong crowd in an attempt to become popular. Best

Supporting Actress Oscar® nominee Holly Hunter, Evan Rachel Wood,

Nikki

Reed and Jeremy Sisto star in this acclaimed, harrowing story of

adolescence

and rebellion.

A young American goes to Paris to visit her pregnant sister, whose

marriage is on the rocks, and gets into some romantic entanglements of

her

own in LE DIVORCE (Aug. 11). Kate Hudson, Naomi Watts, Jean-Marc Barr,

Leslie Caron, Stockard Channing and Glenn Close star in the romantic

comedy.

Based on a true story, SHATTERED GLASS (Sept. 10) tells the tale of

Stephen Glass, a onetime star reporter at The New Republic whose

meteoric

rise was abruptly halted when dozens of his articles were exposed by

rivals

as outright fabrications. Hayden Christensen, Golden Globe nominee

Peter

Sarsgaard, Chloe Sevigny, Rosario Dawson, Melanie Lynskey and Hank

Azaria

star in the drama.

THE COOLER (Oct.) stars William H. Macy as a gambler in Las Vegas

whose luck is so bad, he’s employed by an old-school casino owner to

end the

good luck of any player merely by his presence. But a surprising new

love

lifts his perpetual black cloud, making him dangerously useless to his

temperamental boss. Maria Bello and Best Supporting Actor Oscar®

nominee

Alec Baldwin co-star in the quirky love story.

In GIRL WITH A PEARL EARRING (Nov.), a young Dutch girl takes a job

as a maid in the home of the painter Vermeer, and the two develop a

deep

friendship which leads to the painting of the world-famous, beautifully

intimate portrait. Colin Firth, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Wilkinson,

Judy

Parfitt, Cillian Murphy and Essie Davis star in the lush drama.

Family Bonds: “My name is Tom Evangelista. I work in New York with my wife,

daughter, nephew and in-laws. Our policy is pretty simple: If you get

arrested, we’ll bail you out. Things only get complicated if you run.

Then, we’re coming after you. And we’re the best in the business.

Some people call us bounty hunters, but to me, we’re just a family.”

from the opening of FAMILY BONDS

Meet the Evangelistas of Medford, Long Island. As tight and tough

as they come, they’re like any other hard-working American family, with

one

major difference - the Evangelistas are bail bondsmen and bounty

hunters.

Debuting SUNDAY, SEPT. 19 (10:00-10:30 p.m. ET), exclusively on HBO,

the new 10-part real-life series FAMILY BONDS reveals the day-to-day

dramas

of these outrageous people, on the job and off, as they confront the

unpredictable dangers of bounty hunting and the challenges of family

life

with resourcefulness, warmth and humor. Debuting immediately following

new

episodes of “The Wire,” each half-hour episode is directed by Steven

Cantor,

whose credits include the CINEMAX Reel Life documentary “Devil’s

Playground”

and the Oscar® nominee “Blood Ties: The Life and Work of Sally Mann.”

There’s Tom, age 46, the head of the family, a chain-smoking,

tough-talking motorcycle buff with a reluctant heart of gold. He’s

been a

licensed bail bondsman for seven years. His company All City Bail

Bonds -

which posts bail money for criminal suspects who are unable to pay it

themselves - has offices in Queens, Manhattan and Long Island. His

voluptuous wife Flo has been married to Tom for 23 years. A fiercely

devoted mother with a no-nonsense style, she balances her time between

helping manage Tom’s offices and running the Evangelista household.

Chris Evangelista is Tom’s fun-loving but volatile nephew. Also a

licensed bail bondsman, he has worked for Tom for six years; since his

divorce, Chris has lived with the Evangelista family, camping out on

the

couch. Tom and Flo’s son Sal (17) is eager to leave his job at the

pizza

parlor and follow his dad into the business. Dana Giassakis (20) is

Tom and

Flo’s level-headed daughter, and lives in Brooklyn with her husband

Nick;

she has finished junior college and plans to attend New York University

in

the fall to study psychology. Frankie (7) is Tom and Flo’s younger

son, who

observes the chaotic household with wide-eyed curiosity.

Dawn Carfora, Flo’s brash, body-conscious sister, has been married

to Jimmy Carfora for 20 years, and runs the office for Jimmy at All

County

Bail Bonds, a satellite office of Tom’s All City Bail Bonds, in

Hempstead,

New York. Kim Persinger, Flo’s oldest sister, has been the

hard-working

office manager at All City Bail Bonds since Tom founded the company.

FAMILY BONDS follows the Evangelistas on the job, as they track down

fugitives, and off the job, where they play as hard as they work.

Among their adventures in the line of duty:

The All City Bail Bonds team tracks Romanian scam artists in the

Ridgewood

section of Queens.

In Manhattan’s Riverside Park, Tom’s crew pursues a murder suspect, but the hunt has an unexpected outcome.

Apprehending a battery suspect in Brooklyn, Tom discovers significant quantities of methamphetamine.

In East New York, a fugitive escapes the dragnet, but Tom figures out another way to get his man.

Tom and his crew retrieve a fugitive from Pennsylvania in the dead of night.

Tom teaches Sal - now a recovery agent in training - the basics of taking down a suspect, using Chris to demonstrate.

Off-duty, the Evangelistas star in other kinds of family dramas:

An anxious Frankie receives bike lessons from Tom, who grows too

impatient

with his son to finish the job. Flo later tries a gentler approach to

this

rite of passage, with different results.

In the Evangelistas’ back yard, Sal marks his 18th birthday with a raucous bash that produces a few frayed nerves and bruised feelings.

At the Classy Lady nail salon, Flo and her sisters meet regularly to discuss intimate details of their sex lives, among other personal matters.

Tom tries acupuncture in an attempt to quit smoking.

Dana graduates from junior college at Kingsborough Community College with her proud family looking on, and looks ahead to attending NYU - the first in her family to be admitted to such a prestigious institution. But the result of her pregnancy test throws Dana’s college plans into doubt.

At John F. Kennedy High School’s career day, Tom makes a rare appearance in a suit, explaining his job to rapt teenagers looking for something other than the usual career options.

After a hard night of chasing bad guys, Chris shows his tender side when he visits his ex-wife and picks up his three young daughters for a carefree afternoon at the beach.

Stung by taunts about his weight from Tom and a suspect who outruns him, Chris begins a program to slim down.

HBO Documentaries: From an unfiltered peek behind the scenes on the Democratic presidential campaign trail, to new revelations about a notorious serial killer, to thought-provoking studies of the perils of nuclear power, HBO has set a provocative and timely lineup of documentary specials and America Undercover presentations for the second half of 2004.

Among the leading documentary filmmakers whose work will be spotlighted

are

Nick Broomfield, Bill Couturié, Maryann De Leo, Rory Kennedy, Marc

Levin and

Alexandra Pelosi.

HBO documentary specials include:

Lindsay Crystal’s MY UNCLE BERNS (debuting Aug. 5) chronicles her

grand uncle Bernhardt Crystal’s life in a poignant documentary that

brings

together three generations of the Crystal family. When she set out to

chronicle her 88-year-old great-uncle’s remarkable journey through the

20th

century, she already knew he was an accomplished artist, gallery owner

and

storyteller, thanks to the stories told by her father, comedian and

actor

Billy Crystal. But she was not prepared for the profound impact his

reminiscences would have on her. Produced and directed by Lindsay

Crystal;

executive produced by Billy Crystal and Janice Crystal.

DEATH IN GAZA (Aug. 12) is a powerful film that takes a shocking

first-hand look at the culture of hate permeating the Middle East.

Award-winning filmmaker James Miller, accompanied by reporter Saira

Shah,

captured the lives of three Palestinian children, indoctrinated in the

creed

of Jihad and growing up in the bullet-riddled streets of Gaza. But on

May

2, 2003, in the midst of filming, Miller was shot to death, falling

victim

to the conflict he covered. Produced, directed and filmed by James

Miller;

produced, written and reported by Saira Shah.

INDIAN POINT: IMAGINING THE UNIMAGINABLE (Sept. 9) spotlights the

controversial nuclear power plant, located on the Hudson River 35 miles

north of midtown Manhattan. Amidst a growing and heated debate about

its

future, the owners maintain Indian Point to be “safe, secure and

vital,”

while others believe it’s particularly vulnerable to terrorist attacks.

The

documentary explores the plant’s role in providing power to the region

and

investigates why it has become a focal point for the debate over safe

and

efficient energy resources in the wake of 9/11. Produced and directed

by

Rory Kennedy (HBO’s “A Boy’s Life” and “American Hollow”); produced by

Liz

Garbus.

CHERNOBYL HEART (Sept. 9), this year’s Academy Award® winner for

Best Documentary Short, travels deep into the heart of the worst

nuclear

disaster in history, chronicling its continuing effects today.

Following

Adi Roche, founder of Ireland’s Chernobyl Children’s Project, the film

reveals the invisible trail radiation leaves behind. (Debuts

immediately

following INDIAN POINT: IMAGINING THE UNIMAGINABLE.) Produced and

directed

by Maryann DeLeo.

Alexandra Pelosi’s DIARY OF A POLITICAL TOURIST (Oct. 11) follows

her two-year road trip on the campaign trail with the Democratic

presidential wannabes. This irreverent film documents the fun,

exhaustion,

pain, shame, tears, absurdity, hard work and ego that go into

challenging

the leader of the free world. Subjects include Gen. Wesley Clark, Gov.

Howard Dean, Sen. John Edwards, Rep. Dick Gephardt, Sen. Bob Graham,

Sen.

John Kerry and Sen. Joe Lieberman. Directed and produced by Alexandra

Pelosi (HBO’s “Journeys with George”).

Upcoming America Undercover presentations include:

BACK IN THE HOOD: GANG WAR 2 (Aug. 26) returns to Little Rock, Ark.

setting of the 1994 HBO documentary “Gang War: Bangin’ in Little Rock”— to update the story. The film catches up with numerous former gang members from the first film, including Leifel Jackson, once one of the most notorious of the OGCs (Original Gangster Crips), who is now trying to live straight and make a positive difference in his neighborhood. Produced by Marc Levin and Daphne Pinkerson; directed by Marc Levin.

LAST LETTERS HOME (Nov.), produced in association with the New York

Times, is an intimate, deeply moving documentary featuring the last

letters

home from American soldiers in Iraq. Families of the dead read the

letters

aloud, in their hometowns, helping to preserve their memories.

Produced and

directed by Bill Couturié (HBO’s Emmy®-winning “Dear America:

Letters

Home from Vietnam”).

In AILEEN: LIFE AND DEATH OF A SERIAL KILLER (Nov.), Nick

Broomfield revisits executed murderer Aileen Wournos (subject of the

2003

dramatic feature film “Monster”) 12 years after his documentary “Aileen

Wournos: The Selling of a Serial Killer.” The new film explores

Wuornos’

childhood, which was marked by unrelenting abuse, and reveals the

continued

violence she endured as a hitchhiking prostitute, following the story

through to her execution.

Who’s Wearing What:

Two stars of Little Black Book have selected to walk the red carpet at tonight’s premiere in “little black dresses” by Monique Lhuillier. Holly Hunter:This Academy Award-winning actress will be wearing a black tropical floral chiffon halter dress with a flirty handkerchief hem. Josie Maran:Maran selected a sexy black Alencon lace bodice dress with tulle ballerina skirt. Josie will polish off her look with a black crystal clutch by Daniel Swarovski Paris.

Sharon Lawrence plans to wear an outfit by Pamella Roland to the New York premiere of her new film, Little Black Book. She’ll wear a flattering beige silk dress with a black scroll print from Pamella's Spring 2004 Collection.

Marlee Matlin walked the red carpet at the "So the World May Hear" awards on Tuesday night in a gown by Toronto-based designer Sunny Choi and handbag by Daniel Swarovski Paris. She wore a lavender silk cowl neck gown with tiers of chiffon ruffles and crystals at the bottom. Her look was topped off with a vintage pink and crystal silver satin handbag with a beaded strap.

Could She Just Tell the Truth?: When Barbara Walters asked Martha Stewart about the image-damaging effects of her decision to carry a $6,050 Birkin bag to her trial, Stewart replied: "Do you know that is my only handbag? Do you know that? Do you know how many handbags I own? And that I bought that handbag, I think it was 12 or 14 years ago." But the New York Daily News is running a series of photos of Stewart arriving at court carrying other expensive totes. "In the eight months from pre-trial hearing to final sentencing, Stewart carried four different Hermès bags, worth at least $16,000 in all," reports the paper. Oops! (N.Y. Daily News)

Gang Bangin’: It’s been almost a decade since Marc Levin and Daphne Pinkerson exposed gang warfare in the heartland with the 1994 HBO documentary “Gang War: Bangin’ in Little Rock.” This August, the filmmakers return to Little Rock to update the stories of several gang members when the America Undercover documentary BACK IN THE HOOD: GANG WAR 2 debuts THURSDAY, AUG.

26 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET), exclusively on HBO.

Other HBO playdates: Aug. 30 (1:50 a.m.) and Sept. 8 (12:30 a.m.), 13 (midnight) and 16 (3:10 a.m.).

HBO2 playdates: Aug. 31 (11:15 p.m.) and Sept. 11 (10:00 p.m.), 15 (2:30 a.m.), 19 (4:05 a.m.) and 28 (1:50 a.m.).

BACK IN THE HOOD: GANG WAR 2 follows Leifel Jackson, onetime leader of the OGCs (Original Gangster Crips), as he is released from prison after almost a decade behind bars for drug trafficking. Jackson was one of the targets in the 1993 drive-by shooting captured in the first “Gang War” documentary. Now he is trying to live straight and make a positive difference in his neighborhood, but every day is a struggle.

“I think it’s a lot easier doing time than it is out here struggling to make ends meet,” explains Jackson. “I’m going to have to make an example, and my example is that you can come home, regardless of how long you’re gone, and make it.”

Jackson runs Our Club, a city-funded after-school program, in addition to working other odd jobs to provide for his family. Even though the city government honored Jackson with a Juvenile Justice Worker of the Year Award, he is not on its payroll, and does not have health insurance.

Although it’s a violation of his parole to associate with gang members. Jackson is convinced that he has to stay connected to the streets, because those are the people he needs to reach. However, there is little incentive for the disaffected youth in the neighborhood to break free of the fast-cash, drugs-and-guns gang lifestyle in an area with few alternatives.

At his community center, Jackson delivers a cautionary message about the perils of his former life to a group of young kids, illustrating points through his own example and by showing scenes from the original HBO documentary. As Jackson explains, in 1993 (when he was 31), a war raged in Little Rock, one as real as the ones going on today in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Crips (who wore blue) were the sworn enemies of the Bloods (who wore red), and violence spread over turf wars. Established leaders like Jackson recruited young kids in their early teens or even younger. Since 1993, more than 400 people have died from gang-related violence in Little Rock.

Jackson invites one of his former rivals, Marvin Weathersby, a onetime leader of the West Side Bloods, to speak to the kids in his program.

The two former enemies have put their deadly rivalry behind them to try and save the next generation. To his young audience’s amazement, Weathersby displays some of his gunshot wounds, encouraging the kids to feel the bullets still lodged beneath his skin.

“ ‘Gang War: Bangin’ in Little Rock’ received great response when it premiered ten years ago on HBO,” comments director Marc Levin. “Since then, people have been wondering what happened to the original gang members interviewed. I stayed in touch with Jackson during his prison term, and my response to their inquiries was to return to Little Rock and chronicle the lives of those we profiled. I wanted to show Jackson’s journey from then to now. He’s changed his life, but is still a prisoner of his past.”

While the original documentary exposed the growing problem of gang violence in America’s heartland, BACK IN THE HOOD: GANG WAR 2 shows the struggles people face when they try to overcome the difficult circumstances in their communities and go straight. Notes activist and hip-hop entrepreneur Russell Simmons, “ ‘Bangin’ in Little Rock’ blew my mind. The sequel, ‘Back in the Hood,’ broke my heart. The war at home continues until we stop it.”

Marc Levin and Daphne Pinkerson have produced numerous America Undercover films for HBO, including the recent “Heir to an Execution:

A Granddaughter’s Story,” plus “Mob Stories,” “Prisoners of the War on Drugs,” “Execution Machine: Texas Death Row,” “Soldiers in the Army of God” and “Gladiator Days.” Their HBO documentary “Thug Life in D.C.” won the 1999 Emmy® for Outstanding Non-Fiction Special, while “Gang War: Bangin’ in Little Rock” won the CableACE Award for Best Documentary of 1994, as well as a Silver Medal for Best Documentary at the Houston International Film Festival.Eluto, A.C.E.; director of photography, Matthew Akers.

Understanding Schitzophrenia; In fifth grade, John Cadigan was voted the most popular, athletic

and artistic student in his class. In college, he became antisocial, paranoid and, eventually, catatonic. Diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, Cadigan could have completely retreated into his own world. Instead, he decided to try to come to terms with his condition by documenting the process on film. The CINEMAX Reel Life documentary PEOPLE SAY I’M CRAZY tells the autobiographical story of his struggle when it debuts WEDNESDAY, AUG. 18 (7:00-8:30 p.m. ET), exclusively on CINEMAX.

Other playdate: Sept. 16 (9:00 a.m.).

The first documentary filmed and directed by someone living with the

disease, PEOPLE SAY I’M CRAZY chronicles the intimate details of Cadigan’s decade-long battle to recover from schizophrenia. Cadigan was assisted in making the film by his sister, documentarian Katie Cadigan, and Academy Award®-winning documentarian Ira Wohl (“Best Boy”).

In 1992, 22-year-old John Cadigan asked his sister to help him record his daily battles with mental illness as a way to “force me to examine my life, and maybe accept what was going on with me.” Together, they photographed his routine activities in and around Palo Alto, Cal.

In

1997, Cadigan got his own camera and took over the principal photography.

The result is a portrait of a brilliant but tormented man pushing himself as an artist, despite ongoing battles with his inner demons.

PEOPLE SAY I’M CRAZY captures intimate moments in his life, both setbacks and triumphs, both personal and creative. Through Cadigan’s example, his courage and his cathartic honesty, the film sheds light on the overwhelming challenges facing people with severe mental illness, while poignantly underscoring the importance of family and friends in providing help and encouragement.

As Cadigan recalls, he had his first psychotic break at age 21 during his senior year at Carnegie Mellon University, when he was living “like a mole” in a basement apartment. “I had stopped going to classes because I was too afraid,” he says. “I thought they were all out to get me, all out to mess with my mind and drive me crazy.” This behavior landed him in a doctor’s office and eventually in the hospital, where he stayed for two weeks.

“That was the beginning of the labels,” he says. “First it was depression. Then I had some psychotic features. Then it was schizoaffective. Then the possibility of mania. Then it was paranoid schizophrenia, which is probably the worst of them all.”

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, one in every

four Americans will have mental illness in their lifetime; one in 100 will be diagnosed with schizophrenia. Soon after his diagnosis in early 1992, unable to finish college, he moved to California to be close to his family.

Over the next four years, he was hospitalized three more times and his diagnosis was confirmed: schizoaffective disorder - a combination of schizophrenia and depression.

From 1991 to 1994, Cadigan’s doctors tried every antipsychotic, antidepressant and mood-stabilizing drug on the market, as well as electro-convulsive therapy (ECT), but nothing worked. In 1994, he found a different doctor and took advantage of the first new drugs for schizophrenia in more than 25 years, including Clozaril. This new medication slowly helped Cadigan become more functional, though with an unfortunate side effect: He gained more than 100 pounds.

As the film progresses, Cadigan develops as an artist with the loving support of his family. His work, which sells consistently, is inspired by mythological images and “is a spiritual quest to find the divine.” His woodcut prints have toured galleries and museums around the United States, and most recently were exhibited in the Stanford University Art Spaces.

“Making art is like breathing - a necessary part of my life,” he says. “The more I work, the more I am healed, and the images become a deeper expression of my interior world.” Cadigan also overcomes many personal obstacles through his art. Exhibiting his work at the Capitol Hill building in Washington, D.C., he is able to overcome his stage fright to speak on his art and his illness.

PEOPLE SAY I’M CRAZY won the Best Documentary Award Silver Plaque at

the Chicago International Film Festival and the Chief Dan George Humanitarian Award at the Vancouver Film Festival. It has also screened at the HBO Frame-by-Frame Documentary Film Series, the American Psychological Association Annual Conference in Toronto, the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill California Conference in Long Beach, the 2003 Boston International Film Festival, and the 2003 Denver International Film Festival.

PEOPLE SAY I’M CRAZY is directed by John Cadigan with Katie Cadigan;

DEVO on DVD: The staff of BeansTalk were treated to a live, front row performance of Devo at the opening of the AirStream Diner in the summer of 2002! Now Devo – Live in the Land of the Rising Sun: Japan 2003 is available on DVD.

Where do you go in Western influenced, post-industrial, technological society and feel like you're on another planet? Japan of course! Live in the Land of the Rising Sun: Japan 2003 provides a DEVOlutionary impression of the alien experience. 25 years ago as young primates, DEVO experienced the dislocation as men with a plan to change the world before the world changed them. They were making history, and the Japanese were willing subjects: submissive, effusive and generous to a fault. Uncle Sam was calling the shots and they reaped the rewards of hoards of adoring fans.

In the Summer of 2003, DEVO returned as true uncles and fathers, revered for what they did and said right in the first place. But now they were part of history, and culturally, the proverbial shoe was on the other foot. America, truly devolved, was on the decline and Japan was mapping the future. Nevertheless, DEVO was overwhelmed by those who came out to celebrate their belated return. The crowd knew all the words (in English!). They wore red Energy Domes - homemade and bootlegged of course. They followed DEVO through the streets and into their fantasy inspiring stores like "Tokyo Hands".

“Such incredible people and such incredible irony that they'd still love a band that talks about de-evolution. So, watch this DVD. See for yourself. I never thought I'd say this but there is hope for humans in this world. Herein lies some minor proof.” - Gerald V. Casale

Hungry Like the Wolf for Duran2: The five original members of Duran Duran are putting the finishing touches on their first studio album together in 21 years, due out on Epic Records worldwide in early October 2004. Simon LeBon (vocals), Andy Taylor (guitar), John Taylor (bass), Roger Taylor (drums) and Nick Rhodes (keyboards) are currently working in London¹s Sphere Studios with Grammy-award winning music and film producer Dallas Austin (Janet Jackson, Gwen Stefani, Pink, Drumline) on songs for their new album. “This is an incredible experience, you can’t pay for the history. I am a word for word, lyric for lyric fan. They are all super musicians! And we’re all Astronauts” raved Austin. ("Astronaut" is the title of one of the tracks the band is working on with Austin.)

The new album also features the work of Don Gilmore, who has produced albums for multi-platinum acts such as Good Charlotte and Linkin Park. “Duran

Duran really like to experiment,” explained Gilmore. “They don¹t like to do

Things the conventional way.” Asked about his favorite song on the forthcoming

album, Gilmore admitted “I’m a sucker for the moodier stuff – “Save A

Prayer,” “The Chauffeur,” etc. There’s a new song called (“Still Breathing”)

that’s in that same vein and it’s amazing.”

In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Simon LeBon reflected

On how he and his fellow band members “inspire each other

musically....Nobody else does it for me. It’s just very special.”

Soap Stuff: “SOAPnet Reveals ABC Soap Secrets,” a star-studded preview special that will give fans the inside scoop on “All My Children,” “One Life to Live” and “General Hospital” will air on the ABC Television Network on Monday, August 16, 2004 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon (ET) and on SOAPnet at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m.. The announcement came today from Brian Frons, president, ABC Daytime and Deborah Blackwell, general manager, SOAPnet.

The special will be hosted by SOAPnet’s Lisa Rinna and Ty Treadway, and feature popular ABC Daytime stars including “All My Children’s” Rebecca Budig, Cameron Mathison and Alicia Minshew; “One Life to Live’s” Kamar de los Reyes and Bree Williamson; and “General Hospital’s” Maurice Benard, Tyler Christopher and Natalia Livingston. The hour will be filled with never-before-seen interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, and shocking plot twists that fans have to look forward to on their favorite ABC soaps.

“This special will be the only viewing option for fans to get exclusive top secret information about the stories we have planned for their shows and their favorite characters,” said Mr. Frons. “This is a great way for us to share our excitement for upcoming plots with the fans, and we will definitely be delivering some big surprises.”

“ABC Daytime is a great partner. It is exciting that they have offered us both the exclusive information for the special and the opportunity to appear on their network,” said Ms. Blackwell. “As the only 24/7 destination for inside access to stars and storylines we are thrilled to bring this show to the ABC and SOAPnet audiences.”

Recent studies demonstrate a synergistic relationship between ABC Daytime and SOAPnet viewing, with SOAPnet providing convenient and multiple occasions for ABC soap viewers to watch more episodes of “All My Children,” “One Life to Live” and

General Hospital.” This contributes to the overall health of the genre and increases the total number of episodes watched. SOAPnet is also an effective platform to reconnect lapsed viewers with their former soaps.

ABC Daytime is consistently number one among the key demographic of women 18 – 49. The line-up consists of “The View,” “All My Children,” “One Life to Live” and “General Hospital.”

SOAPnet will premiere its second installment of their original ‘micro’ series, "One Minute Soap,” on Monday, August 2nd during the 7 PM ET/PT hour. “One Minute Soap” is an episodic story told over the course of different weeks with a one-minute installment premiering every Monday and airing six times a day. Each 60 second episode will end with a cliffhanger.

The ‘micro’ series has been picked up for two new complete story arcs, to air over 12 weeks. In the first, “Office Romance” Molly (Claire Coffee, “The West Wing”), a young office assistant falls for who she thinks is mail room clerk David (Scott Paetty, “Felicity,” “Beverly Hills 90210”) while in reality is the president of the company.

In the second episode, “Too Late,” slated to begin airing in the Fall, Rebecca (Brittney Powell, “General Hospital”) anxiously anticipates a new date which she found through Match.com. Unfortunately, Rebecca’s ex-husband Jerry (Jason Shane Scott, “One Life to Live”) shows up to profess his love and declare that he wants her back at the same time as her date arrives at the door. Will Jerry’s antics spoil her date with Michael (Christopher Showerman, “George of the Jungle 2,” “The O.C.”), or will Rebecca come to her senses and choose the right man for her?

The victim's car was also recovered.

Hatleberg is being questioned by homicide detectives.

Deborah Williams' daughter discovered the body at 1068 Calle del Cerro at 7 p.m. Tuesday, said Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Jim Amormino.

"She was found murdered in her bedroom," Amormino said. "She had cuts on the neck and throat from some type of sharp instrument, we're not sure exactly what."

Investigators sought the victim's boyfriend, Maynard Hatleberg, 47, "only for questioning," Amormino said.

Amormino said Hatleberg lived in the condominium "on and off," but he could offer no other address for the man.

"He does have a previous arrest record for narcotics violations," Amormino said.

According to Amormino, the victim's 26-year-old daughter had tried to file a missing person report.

"Late Tuesday afternoon the victim's daughter hired a locksmith and gained entrance into the victim's condominium," Amormino said. "Unfortunately, she found her mother dead in the bedroom," Amormino said. "The victim died of stab wounds, cuts to her neck and her throat with some unknown type cutting or sharp instrument."

There were no signs of forced entry at Unit 1517, and no signs of a struggle in the home, Amormino said.

Williams was on disability leave for about two years from her job at Irvine Valley College, where she was an office assistant, Amormino said.

A neighbor said that the two had a rocky relationship.

Mike Hoskins said that Hatleberg, whenever the two got into a fight, would walk "to a friend's house right up here all the time and that's constant. They fight all the time."

Amormino said he did not know if the couple frequently fought.

The car was described as a 1997 champagne-colored four-door Toyota Camry. The dog, a brown terrier, recently suffered a rattlesnake bite to its right paw, Amormino said.

OUTBACK JACK Episode 7 Tuesday, August 3 9 p.m. (ET/PT)

Jack takes the three remaining women home to meet his mother and solicit her advice on which two should proceed to the finale in the next-to-the-last episode of TBS's wild new reality series OUTBACK JACK, premiering Tuesday, August 3, at 9 p.m. (ET/PT). OUTBACK JACK, from Bruce Nash's Nash Entertainment (Meet My Folks, For Love or Money, Who Wants To Marry My Dad?), puts a group of pampered city women to the test as they vie for the affections of their rugged leading man. The series, hosted by JD Roberto (Shop Til You Drop, Shark Chasers), combines fish-out-of-water comedy with romantic adventure, making for plenty of fun twists and turns.

Episode 7 opens with Jack (athlete-outdoorsman Vadim Dale) and the remaining three women riding horses through the Outback, stopping briefly to sample a local delicacy: green ants. They continue riding on until they arrive at a beautiful house, where they are greeted by Lori, Jack's mother. After they settle in, Lori gets to know the girls better by questioning them on a variety of personal topics. Then Jack takes each woman on a one-on-one date before they turn in for the night.

The next day, Jack and the group watch revealing home videos of the three remaining women. But elimination time is just around the corner, so after the videos, the girls leave Jack and his mother alone so he can seek her advice on whom to eliminate.

Cinderalla ReDuxOne of the trailers preceding “A Cinderalla Story” showing this weekend was yet another project starring “Cinderella’s” Hilary Duff. This upcoming film’s called “Raise Your Voice.” In “Raise,” the love interest is Oliver James, who fans of this genre will remember as the beau in the Amanda Bynes (another ‘tween favorite) vehicle “What A Girl Wants.” If these movies are all blending together for audiences, it’s because most of these base their foundations on extraordinarily similar premises. Even the above-average “Mean Girls” offers up an “outsider” who longs to be in with the “in-crowd,” but whose thoughtfulness, creativity and quirkiness hold her as unique and special to the potential prince. This is certainly the case in “A Cinderella Story,” which fares better than Duff’s earlier film “The Lizzie Maguire Movie.” Sure, there are moments of the absurd – the overplayed stepmother and stepsisters. Keen-eyed viewers may recognize one of the “evil” over-the-top stepsisters as long-time “The Nanny” star Madeline Zima – she was little blondie sweetheart “Gracie.” The seven and five year olds in the BeansTalk audience group enjoyed the film and it wasn’t quite as burdensome on the adults as most of its ilk.

Robotic: Unfortunately, this action thrilled, inspired by an Isaac Asimov short-story collection directed by “Dark City’s” Alex Proyas, "I, Robot" starts out with a distracting queerly thought-out opening sequence. Granted, Will Smith is a beautiful man, but the film opens with clearly homoerotic lovingly shot glimpses of his body. Smith portrays a paranoid detective in the year 2035 and the opening shows him waking up. He shifts to sit on the edge of the bed, the camera from the foot of the bed holds on his crotch, his muscular legs, his ample six-pack-abs and chest. But all of this leads to a nearly embarrassingly posed nude shower scene, in which Smith is statue like (replete with standard position), as the water beats down on him. This really has little to do with the film in which robots are quickly becoming an every home household item. Smith’s character begins investigating what he alone believes is a crime perpetrated by a robot. The action sequences are adequate and the acting good, but on the whole, it’s a fairly predictable premise.

BeansTalk Observation: If Johnny Depp and Ben Affleck could have a baby, it would be Skeet Ulrich.
