He says that many dog owners, desiring to show their love and affection, don’t clearly establish themselves as the home’s dominant being, and give up control of the home to the dog. “Most dog trainers strive to have the animal fulfill the need of the human first,” says Millan. “With my method, I first connect with the dog’s mind, and then on a physical level. This process allows me to communicate with the dog and rehabilitate his behavior. Once this is accomplished, the animal will happily and willingly do the owner’s bidding.”
