'Tis The Season ... To Bust Holiday Myths:
"Mythbusters" Holiday Special Premieres Wed., 12/6 On The Discovery Channel

The MythBusters are delivering a sack full of fables and myths to unwrap and unravel this holiday season -- in the Mythbusters Holiday Special, premiering Wednesday, December 6 from 10-11 PM (ET/PT).

First up, hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman build a soda and Mentos-powered "Rube Goldberg machine." In a recent myth, the guys blew the lid off the soda and Mentos phenomenon by solving what others had only speculated -- the precise cause of the explosive cascade. For this special holiday treat, they build an intricate 100-foot long machine with 60 moving parts and holiday-themed gags galore -- all powered by soda and Mentos.

Meanwhile, Build Team members Kari Byron, Grant Imahara and Tory Belleci put Christmas trees to the test. They ask the question, from the ordinary to some completely "out there" concoctions, what is the best method for prolonging the life of a cut tree? It's a six-week needle drop-fest, where they try everything from hair spray, to lemon-lime soda, and a little blue mystery pill known for its powers of virility. The team also tests myths that involve a holiday food staple -- the turkey. From dropping frozen turkeys, to testing whether the power of electromagnetic radiation waves can cook the birds, the team has a blast.

In addition to the Mythbusters Holiday Special Holiday Special, the Discovery Channel is airing a special Mythbusters Marathon all day on Christmas day, Monday, December 25 (9AM to midnight ET/PT).
