Some Roommates Are Scarier Than Others
U.S. premiere of BBC’s Being Human–
Mixing the mythic with the commonplace, the farcical with the horrific and the domestic with the epic, Being Human, a BBC AMERICA co-production, is a witty and extraordinary look into the lives of three twenty-somethings and their secret double-lives – as a werewolf, a vampire and a ghost. Russell Tovey (Doctor Who, The History Boys), Lenora Crichlow (Sugar Rush, Doctor Who) and Aidan Turner (The Clinic) star as housemates trying to live normal lives, despite their strange and dark secrets. Being Human premieres Saturday, July 25, at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.
George (Russell Tovey) and Mitchell (Aidan Turner) work in anonymous drudgery as hospital porters. They lead lives of quiet desperation under the burden of a terrible secret—Mitchell’s a vampire and George a werewolf. Deciding to start life afresh and leave behind the dark side, they move into a house, only to find that Annie, the ghost of a woman killed in mysterious circumstances, haunts it. As the monster threesome deals with the challenges of their new life together, they’re united in their desire to blend in with their human neighbors.
By all appearances, George is a mild-mannered and geeky guy - except for one night a month when he’s a flesh-hungry, predatory werewolf. Mitchell is good-looking, laid-back and, unlike George, has an easy confidence with the ladies. But he’s also suffering withdrawal from the blood he craves. Annie (Lenora Crichlow) is chatty, insecure and desperate for company and now that death has separated them, she longs for her fiancĂ©, who owns the house she haunts.
But with unwelcome intruders into their world, a threatened revolution from the vampire underworld and constant threats of exposure – on top of the day-to-day issues faced by young people – the only thing they may be able to rely on in their heightened world, is each other.

Doctor Who Specials
On BCC America
BBC America premieres five specials from TV’s longest running sci-fi series -
[BeansTalk Note: We had to include this because it's the CEO's favorite show]
BBC America announced the acquisition of five new specials from Doctor Who, television’s longest running science fiction series and a global phenomenon. The deal gives the cable channel the exclusive first window to the Doctor Who 2009 Specials (4 x 60), the final four adventures of the tenth Time Lord played by David Tennant. As part of the same deal, BBC America acquired the 2008 Christmas Special, The Next Doctor featuring David Morrissey and Dervla Kirwan. It will air Saturday, June 27, 2009.
The first of the 2009 specials, Doctor Who: Planet of the Dead, premieres in July. As a London red bus takes a detour to an alien world it forces the Doctor (Tennant) to work with the extraordinary Lady Christina (Michelle Ryan, Bionic Woman). But the mysterious planet holds terrifying secrets hidden in the sand and time is running out as the deadly Swarm gets closer.
“The outstanding quality of the Doctor Who scripts from Russell T Davies and the on-screen dynamic that David Tennant brings to the role are a magic combination for our viewers. Russell’s spin-off series Torchwood is already our highest rated show on the channel and I know the fans will follow these new specials with equal passion and support. We’re thrilled to bring this iconic show to BBC America, home of the best British sci-fi programming on television,” says President, BBC Worldwide America Garth Ancier.
Doctor Who: The Waters of Mars is the second special and along with the two additional untitled specials will premiere later in 2009 and early 2010.
Building off the successful Supernatural Saturdays programming block, Doctor Who will be leveraged across multiple platforms including Doctor Who: Planet of the Dead, the first Doctor Who DVD to be released on Blu-ray, shortly after the U.S. broadcast premiere.
The writers are Russell T Davies and Gareth Roberts (The Sarah Jane Adventures) with Executive Producers Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner (Torchwood, Life on Mars). It is a BBC production and distributed by BBC Worldwide.

Flap on the Flat Iron
The other day we were stopped at the mall, from the persuasive, inescapable kiosk peddler of a flat iron that allegedly features more negative ions than any other, thus the heat being lower and the iron being more effective, if not healthy for your hair. She started out saying it was $250, but eventually tried her last ditch price of $125 (she wasn't aware of just how low we are on coin).
Using our own hair as an example, she showed how she could straighten the hair, curl the hair, all the while making it shine and ooze health, her heavily accented sales pitch rising to a crescendo, always ending each graph of yammer with "What color do you like? How many do you want?" I will spare you the repetition because it's irritating even just recalling it.
Sales pusher Karen insisted that their iron was better than my Chi or my GHD because theirs was all ceramic. She showed how if you scratch the surface, the Chi iron is metal. Hana Salon makes a 100% ceramic iron we're quite curious about. Eventually, we may be able to afford one.
In the meantime, here's the company's very cute mini iron:

Charles Darwin And The Tree Of Life
U.S. Premiere On BBC America
Sir David Attenborough on Darwin -
Multi award-winning and world renowned natural history presenter, Sir David Attenborough is a passionate Darwinian. Marking the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his world-changing book, On the Origin of Species, Attenborough shares his personal insight on Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, explaining why he believes it’s more important now than ever before. Charles Darwin and The Tree of Life premieres Sunday, June 21, 7:00 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. PT as part of the BBC Earth block*.
Also airing in the three-hour BBC Earth block are two channel premieres of Attenborough’s previous shows. Great Natural Wonders of the World, 5:00 p.m. ET/2:00 p.m. PT sees him traveling across the seven continents in a quest that begins in North America where he witnesses dawn breaking over the forbidding terrain of Death Valley and ends in Antarctica, where he reflects on the extraordinary, beautiful and inspiring natural wonders of the planet. Greatest Wildlife Show On Earth, 6:00 p.m. ET/3:00 p.m. PT follows the path of the sun on its annual cycle, from the Equator, across the Northern Hemisphere and into the South, revealing all the natural rhythms of life - the urge to breed, feed and raise young - driven by the sun, moon and seasons, across the world.
Produced by the BBC, the largest producer of natural history programming in the world, Charles Darwin and The Tree of Life allows Attenborough to share his deeply personal views on this globally important idea. He sees evolution as the cornerstone of all his thinking – and Darwin's ideas have permeated everything he’s ever filmed or written. In the hour-long documentary, Attenborough asks three key questions: how and why did Darwin come up with his theory, why do we think he was right and why is it more important now than ever before?
To find the answers he goes on a journey through the last 200 years, tracking the changes in our understanding of the natural world. He visits Darwin's home at Down House in Kent, where Darwin worried and puzzled over the origins of life as well as his alma mater at Cambridge where the DNA double helix was discovered. Many of these trips reveal the stories that underpin Attenborough’s own passion for the subject of evolution and helps him search for the latest evidence that further strengthens Darwin’s theory.
Ending his journey at London’s Natural History Museum, Attenborough concludes that Darwin's great insight revolutionized the way in which the world is seen and how humans are not set apart from the natural world, and do not have dominion over it.
SIR DAVID ATTENBOROUGH
Sir David Attenborough is one of the world’s best-known natural history presenters. His distinguished career spans more than 50 years, during which time he has done more than anyone else to popularize natural history programming and has become one of the world’s most respected authorities on wildlife. His combination of charm and enthusiasm, together with concern for conservation and the environment, has been profoundly influential on several generations of viewers.
Born in London on 8 May 1926, Attenborough studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge. He served in the Royal Navy and joined the BBC in 1952 as a trainee producer of documentary programs. In 1954, he became a presenter and launched his famous series, Zoo Quest, which took him to the wilder parts of the world. In 1965, he took one of the top jobs in the BBC, Controller of BBC2, and was responsible for the introduction of color television into Britain. He went on to run both BBC television networks and in 1973, returned to program-making.
In 1979, he wrote and presented Life on Earth, at the time the most ambitious series ever produced by the BBC’s Natural History Unit - an estimated 500 million people worldwide watched it. In 1984, came its sequel, The Living Planet, and in 1990, The Trials of Life, the final part of the epic trilogy spanning all life on Earth. This was followed by Life in the Freezer (1993), The Private Life of Plants (1995), The Life of Birds (1998), The Life of Mammals (2002), Life In The Undergrowth (2005) and Life In Cold Blood (2007), all of which received huge acclaim and many awards including the accompanying books and DVDs which topped bestseller lists.
In 2002, Attenborough celebrated 50 years with the BBC with Life On Air, a television biography and bestselling book and on his 80th birthday, in 2006, was on the Galapagos Islands filming giant tortoises for Life In Cold Blood. Other recent projects include The Blue Planet and Planet Earth. Over the years Attenborough has received countless prestigious awards and honorary degrees and in 2005, he was awarded the Order of Merit by the Queen which recognizes exceptional distinction in the arts,

The Doors
From The Outside
Unauthorized
Documentary enhanced by the rare footage of the band in existence, classic live and studio musical performances, seldom seen photographs, news clips, location shots and much more.
This brand new documentary film tells the story of The Doors, not from the perspective of the surviving members - as has been told so many time before - but from the recollections, memories, stories and anecdotes of those who knew the group and its members best.
The panel is headed by a woman who was as close to Jim Morrison as anyone ever was; his widow Patricia Kennealy-Morrison. Patricia has rarely spoken on film about her relationship with Jim, or about her own memories of The Doors. This is a once in a lifetime contribution from someone who knew just about everything that went on.
Also featured is Billy James, the man who 'discovered' Jim Morrison and an early incarnation of The Doors. Billy signed them to their first deal with Columbia Records, and gained the trust and respect of the entire group. Here he tells-all about those very early days when The Doors were known only to a select few.
Richard Goldstein - editor of Village Voice and close friend of the band is on hand too with his anecdote-heavy version of events, as is Mark Benno, the legendary blues musician whose searing guitar graced the L.A. Woman album.
The rock journalists and writers, and those who lived through and were affected by The Doors' music as it was being released also contribute to this documentary film. In this regard, we are joined by Robert Christgau, Johnny Rogan, Dave DiMartino, Ritchie Unterberger, Doug Sundling, and Jim Morrison's biographer James Riordan. $19.95
Bonus Materials: * 'Conversation with The Lizard Queen' - Featurette in which Patricia Morrison reveals her own views about Jim Morrison as an artist, a poet and a visionary.

Dr Robert Titzer Information:
In the first years of a child’ life, tens of thousands of synaptic
connections are made each second in the brain, opening the door for
increased learning capacity. The most natural time to learn any aspect
of language is during the infant and toddler years. There is a
“natural window of opportunity” for learning language where it is
easier for children to learn to understand and speak our language at a
high level. During this window of opportunity, between the ages of 3
months and 5 years, they can also learn the written word naturally and
easily.
Dr. Titzer has developed a new method of teaching reading that could
change how and when our children learn to read. Normally, children
don’t start learning to read until age 5 or 6 years old, but the
natural window of opportunity begins to close around age 4 – Before they
enter Kindergarten

Katy Perry Releases 'Waking Up In Vegas' Music Video
Fourth Single from Platinum Debut is No.1 Most-Added Top 40 Track Sellout 'Hello Katy' Tour Continues Through July
With three worldwide hits and global album-sales exceeding three million copies, Capitol Records' breakthrough artist Katy Perry's album One Of The Boys continues its success undiminished, as the first anniversary of its release on June 17, 2008 approaches.
The fourth single from the album, "Waking Up In Vegas" is creating out-of-the-box excitement more typical of first and second single releases: the song is the No.1 most-added at mainstream Top 40 radio stations nationally and the second-greatest gainer in detected spins this week in the format.
Perry’s "Waking Up In Vegas" music video debuted on iTunes on April 28, 2009, as an online one-week exclusive, and that same day moved to the No. 1 spot on its best-selling Top Music Videos chart.
Similarly humored to her previous videos, "I Kissed A Girl," "Hot N Cold" and "Ur So Gay," the "Vegas" video was shot on location in two days by MTV Video Music Award and Grammy-winning director Joseph Kahn. Katy's partner in crime in the clip is played by actor Joel David Moore (Bones, House, Avatar, Grandma's Boy).
Perry continues her sold-out worldwide "Hello Katy" tour through Europe in July, and is scheduled to appear in the outdoor concert series of NBC's Today show on July 24, 2009.
Calling Perry a "complex and durable" artist, the New York Times review of the New York "Hello Katy" date declared: "in her best moments, she suggested Alanis Morissette with at least some understanding of Liza Minnelli and Wendy O. Williams: inflamed, kooky and dangerous," also noting the set's "devastating ballad, 'Thinking of You'" the album's third single, and her "forceful first-person statements (and) affirmations of self."
Katy Perry's debut album on Capitol, One Of The Boys, is RIAA certified platinum for U.S. sales in excess of one million copies. Her first single, the seven-week Billboard No. 1 "I Kissed A Girl," is certified triple-platinum. "Hot N Cold" is also certified triple-platinum in the U.S., and the album has achieved gold and platinum status in over a dozen international territories.

Grey's Wraps It Up
With Two Less Leads
Hollywood hot spot The Kress hosted the Grey's Anatomy wrap party.
The cast and crew gathered in the restaurant for the party and to view a gag reel compiled by the producers. Chandra Wilson delivered a heartfelt toast to the cast and crew and talked about the show and cast’s amazing five seasons. The reel featured the best moments of the past five seasons, as well as footage of the writers, producers, and crew members goofing around at the studio.
Most attending wondered if and when Patrick Dempsey and newly pregnant Ellen Pompeo were going to arrive -- they never did. Also absent (although that was no surprise) were best friends Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight whose characters checked out of “Grey’s,” as they both met their demise in the fifth season finale.
In addition to Wilson, James Pickens Jr., Sara Ramirez and Jessica Capshaw attended.

Purse-y With the Fringe On the Bottom
(Apologies to the musical "Oklahoma.") We have always wondered why a teeny tiny elfin girl like Mary-Kate Olsen always carries such ginormous handbags. And here she is, walking the streets of Manhattan, with not one, but two purses. The cool looking big black suede one is Stuart Weitzman's Lace Frobo. Ashlee Simpson has one, too (scroll down to see just how much Simpson loves her Weitzman Frobo).
And even if you didn't ask (out loud) you know you want to know who MK's with in that photo -- the guy is her boyfriend (of several months), Nate Lowman. He's supposedly an artist and she was seen in public with him back in September in NYC at the Benjamin Cho fashion show and making out at the Grace Jones' concert in Miami. They're supposedly "serious" (in Hollywood speak), and she spent Christmas with Lowman and his family at their home in the artsy town of Idyllwyld, Calif. where Lowman's dad runs an art school.
Frobo deets:
Dimensions: 13” wide across bottom, 17” wide across middle 15” x 2” deep x 14” high.
Single shoulder strap. Shoulder drop: 7” length.
Leather lacing detail on the shoulder strap for an added edge.
Inside hidden magnetic closure.
Interior lining with multifunctional slip pockets. Retail: $384 - $750

Besame Cosmetics Launches Voluptuous Lip Colour Set
Three Piece Set Includes Lipstick, Lip Pencil and Custom-Designed Brush
Designer Gabriela Hernandez of BĂ©same Cosmetics introduces the Art Deco- inspired Voluptuous Lip Colour Set.
Developed over a two-year period by Hernandez, the result is a long lasting, botanically infused, moisturizing lipstick.
The three-piece set includes lipstick in three romantic shades, lip pencil and an ergonomically designed lip brush.
For Hernandez, the new Voluptuous lipstick is a labor of love: "I personally design the colors, texture, as well as researched and experimented with the ingredients to create the most luxurious lipstick products available to women today. Voluptuous lipsticks are designed to make every woman feel like a movie star-pampered, glamorous and special," states Hernandez.
Voluptuous Lip Colour lipstick contains a mineral stain for long-lasting coverage.
At the heart of the lipstick's formula says Hernandez, is a blend of rose waxes and flower essences that provide a unique silky softness to the lips. Her proprietary blend of ingredients promotes cell renewal and natural fullness.
Hernandez says she's created a formula combining an elixir of therapeutic emollients, with anti-oxidants such as green tea to repair dry skin, anti-aging ingredients such as horse tail extract to promote cell renewal, soothing aloe, natural oils and rich moisturizers . The products are free of petroleum jelly and parabens; the ingredients are all natural.
Voluptuous Lipsticks are available in three flattering shades:
· Red Velvet - a sophisticated and vibrant warm red with a satin finish.
· Rapture Rose - a soft and luminous universal pink with a glossy finish.
· Champagne - a sensuous neutral, warmbeige with a soft shiny finish.
Hernandez experimented with the ideal ratio of oils to wax in her lip pencil to create the blend of waxes. The texture of the automatic pencil is soft, but, she says, color will last. Hernandez's background as an artist helped her create colors for the lip pencils, which are two shades darker than the lipstick color it's paired with, in order to create the illusion of greater roundness and fullness to the lips.
The set also includes an oval-shaped, ergonomic brush that fits between the thumb and forefinger allowing for greater control and more professional application. The brush's full size Taklon tip applies an even layer of color.
The lipstick comes in an eye-catching shiny black metal, enameled case that features a raised matte gold Art Deco design. The curved shape of the lipstick's tip is inspired by the soft curves of the 1930's Deco movement.
The Voluptuous Lip Colour Set (suggested retail price $35.00) and will be available online at www.besamecosmetics.com and through selected retailers in May 2009.

Reno 911’s Nash Hosts AWRT
American Women in Radio and Television (AWRT) will honor the contributions and achievements of women in media and entertainment at the 34th Annual Gracie Awards Gala at the New York Marriott Marquis on Wednesday, June 3, 2009. We are pleased to announce that Niecy Nash, host of Style Network's Clean House and Comedy Central's Reno 911 will serve as this year's Host of the event. The Gracie Awards (also known as "the Gracies") recognize exemplary programming created for women, by women, and about women in all facets of media, including radio, television, cable and new media.
"I'm so proud to host this year's Gracie Awards," stated Niecy Nash. "As a previous recipient of this prestigious award, I personally understand the importance and relevance of this event. We must celebrate and champion the empowerment of women through the media. This year's ceremony will be the best ever!"
Niecy Nash is living out the dream of every Hollywood actress; starring in two successful TV projects at the same time. She is the Host of the Style Network's home makeover show, Clean House, which has become the network's #1 rated program. AWRT honored Niecy with the 2007 Gracie Award for Outstanding Program Host for her work on Clean House. In addition, Niecy stars as no-nonsense Officer Raineesha Williams on the hilarious Comedy Central hit, Reno 911!, a half-hour unscripted spoof of Cops. The show is so popular it was spun-off into a feature film, Reno 911: Miami. Niecy also recently starred in the FOX comedy series, Do Not Disturb. Her film credits include Robert Altman's Cookie's Fortune; The Bachelor; Malibu's Most Wanted; Code Name: The Cleaner and Guess Who. Her upcoming films include Not Easily Broken and two Disney projects scheduled for release in 2009: G-Force and The Proposal. Nash's television credits are another testament to her talent. Her style, humor and quick wit garnered her a stint as a Correspondent on NBC's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. She is also well-known for her recurring role on the Peabody Award-winning comedy series, The Bernie Mac Show, portraying Bernie's uproarious baby sister, Benita.
Niecy made her animated series debut on "Kid Notorious," which was based on the infamous life of legendary Paramount Studios producer Robert Evans. She was lauded for her amazing voice work as Tollie Mae on the series, and has gone on to lend her distinctive voice skills to characters on two Cartoon Network Adult Swim series, The Boondocks and Minoriteam. Recently, she starred as the voice of Mrs. Boots on the popular ABC Family animated series, Slacker Cats. Niecy also voices the character of Miss Yelp in the animated feature, Horton Hears A Who, with Jim Carrey and Steve Carrell, which has grossed nearly $300 million at the box office worldwide.
Additionally, Niecy is developing various television and film projects through her own production company, Next In Line. In her precious spare time, she is devoted to church and participating at charitable functions in support of causes that are close to her heart, including the prevention and awareness of HIV/AIDS, breast cancer, school violence, and domestic abuse, among others. A recipient of the 2007 National Woman in the Arts Award from the St. Louis Grand Center, Niecy has managed the almost impossible; being both a successful actress and mother for the last sixteen years.
The Gracies are presented by the Foundation of AWRT, the philanthropic arm of AWRT that supports educational programs, charitable activities, public service campaigns and scholarships to benefit the public, the electronic media and allied fields. Newlywed Bruce Willis is....Healthy
Can you say perfect photo op?
Bruce Willis hits the hot New York City streets for the first time since his wedding, hydrating with vitaminwater essential, while locking arms with his new wife Emma Heming.
Are we the only one who is worried at the way Mrs. Willis is not clutching her clutch properly? It just seems very precariously placed in her paw. Like someone could snatch it. She obviously doesn't adhere to the precautionary always carry a cross-body purse when walking the potentially dangerous streets of New York. We do!

Celebrity Sighting
Catherine O'Hara!
BeansTalk loves estate sales. Last Friday, we were in Brentwood at the estate of Esther Bryman (who founded the Bryman Schools in 1960) and overheard an estate sale assistant saying, "Have you been to our sales before?" to which a (at this point) disembodied voice responded, "Um, no."
He immediately responded, "Oh! You must just have one of those faces!"
At the very next moment, we found ourselves face-to-face with said "face" -- it was Cookie Guggleman/Mrs. McAllister herself, brilliant comedienne Catherine O'Hara. Even though we make it a practice to not approach celebrities, we were inadvertently already pretty much past approach.
"Oh," we said, startled with a big smile, "That's why you look familiar!" She returned the grin, and we couldn't help but add, "We're big fans."
In the last five years, we've chronicled our own adventures in celebrity spotting and this is one of the best. We love her. She's so brilliant and funny and is movie-dom's best mom (Beetlejuice, Home Alone, Penelope, Monster House, Chicken Little, Betsy's Wedding). She's a staple in Chris Guest's hilarious improved films (A Mighty Wind, For Your Consideration, Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman) and it was wholly delightful to see her at the Now/Again estate sale (which are run with easy efficiency by the darling, we-adore-them Now/Again team of the Silver Lake-based (and Denton, Texas native) Dan Jordan and his partner, Danna McCallum).
