Katy Perry Releases 'Waking Up In Vegas' Music Video
Fourth Single from Platinum Debut is No.1 Most-Added Top 40 Track Sellout 'Hello Katy' Tour Continues Through July
With three worldwide hits and global album-sales exceeding three million copies, Capitol Records' breakthrough artist Katy Perry's album One Of The Boys continues its success undiminished, as the first anniversary of its release on June 17, 2008 approaches.
The fourth single from the album, "Waking Up In Vegas" is creating out-of-the-box excitement more typical of first and second single releases: the song is the No.1 most-added at mainstream Top 40 radio stations nationally and the second-greatest gainer in detected spins this week in the format.
Perry’s "Waking Up In Vegas" music video debuted on iTunes on April 28, 2009, as an online one-week exclusive, and that same day moved to the No. 1 spot on its best-selling Top Music Videos chart.
Similarly humored to her previous videos, "I Kissed A Girl," "Hot N Cold" and "Ur So Gay," the "Vegas" video was shot on location in two days by MTV Video Music Award and Grammy-winning director Joseph Kahn. Katy's partner in crime in the clip is played by actor Joel David Moore (Bones, House, Avatar, Grandma's Boy).
Perry continues her sold-out worldwide "Hello Katy" tour through Europe in July, and is scheduled to appear in the outdoor concert series of NBC's Today show on July 24, 2009.
Calling Perry a "complex and durable" artist, the New York Times review of the New York "Hello Katy" date declared: "in her best moments, she suggested Alanis Morissette with at least some understanding of Liza Minnelli and Wendy O. Williams: inflamed, kooky and dangerous," also noting the set's "devastating ballad, 'Thinking of You'" the album's third single, and her "forceful first-person statements (and) affirmations of self."
Katy Perry's debut album on Capitol, One Of The Boys, is RIAA certified platinum for U.S. sales in excess of one million copies. Her first single, the seven-week Billboard No. 1 "I Kissed A Girl," is certified triple-platinum. "Hot N Cold" is also certified triple-platinum in the U.S., and the album has achieved gold and platinum status in over a dozen international territories.
