The new 13-part documentary series “Cooking Under Fire” takes viewers behind the scenes as aspiring chefs are put through a coast-to-coast challenge that tests all their talents — including culinary acumen, endurance, business skills, management abilities, artistic sensibility and even purchasing power — revealing what it takes to work in the high-stakes, high-stress world of restaurants and fine dining. Using a fast-paced documentary-style format, infused with all the excitement of reality television and with an added dash of enlightenment, Cooking Under Fire provides greater understanding and respect for the ambition and aptitude necessary to excel in the competitive culinary world. The final show culminates with one skilled individual winning the job of chef at one of famed chef and restaurateur Todd English’s restaurants in New York City. Judges are chefs English, Ming Tsai and Michael Ruhlman. Premieres Wednesday April 27, 2005 at 8 p.m. on PBS.
