Get Thee to See Raz

As anyone who knows us, uh, knows we love a good massage. Love. For the last 22 years, whenever we have a staff position, we get a weekly massage. Seriously. We never get our hair done, and pretty much only do a pedicure when it’s offered at an event (and even then, not really).

But a great massage, well, those stay in our memory like a special event. Back in the late 1980s, we got a massage at the MGM Grand (or Ballys – see? We don’t even remember the casino) in Las Vegas, from a Korean woman named Soon Boucher. It felt like we were being thrown around, but it was almost as if we had been given some super special secret drug. I may not remember the name of the massage therapist from last week, but we remembered her.We felt great for days after.

More than a year ago, we had the privilege of getting a massage from Raz at West Hollywood’s Ona Spa. Like that casino spa massage, it was memorable – and such because it was (and we do not exaggerate) the best massage we’ve ever gotten. For reals, as the teens say. We silently sigh to myself when I recall the experience. Despite the location (not so convenient for our locale) and the price (way more than we're used to paying), but wow, we can see how he can become completely addictive. And he is, with his understandably devoted clientele. Ah, if only we were wealthy.

So there you go. If you want to give someone an amazing gift, have them be indebted to you forever, give them the gift of Raz. And while you’re at it, get one for youself.

Razmik Tirgran, Massage Therapist Bio

Razmik Tirgran of Ona Spa is among the most sought-after massage therapists in Los Angeles, with a level of notable clientele that reads like a who’s who of Hollywood.

Certified in seven distinct massage specialties, Razmik fuses various techniques to create a multidisciplinary approach, individually specific to each client’s unique needs.

Razmik began his massage career in the Soviet Union, after retiring from the Soviet Judo Olympic team. Initially focusing on sports massage and injury therapy, Razmik’s early clientele included many notable Soviet athletes. Under the tutelage of noted doctor, author and professor, Lylia Leonidovna, Razmik studied diverse approaches to massage therapy, and gained a reputation as one of the Soviet Union’s most talented rehabilitation therapists.

In 1991, Razmik relocated to Los Angeles, where he first practiced at the Anderson Medical Clinic, an affiliate of Harbor Hospital. Razmik also introduced the one of the most noteworthy massage departments in Los Angeles, at the Hollywood YMCA, attracting a host of high level clientele to the unassuming location.

Today, Razmik practices massage at Ona Spa, where he is available on premise or by special request, offsite. Drawing upon classic, sport, Swedish, Shiatsu, deep tissue, reflexology and neuromuscular techniques, Razmik is able to customize massage therapy according to the needs of each client, ridding them of even long term discomfort, earning him the reputation of having “hands that heal.”
