George Carlin

Comedy on HBO

HBO will offer new stand-up specials starring network favorites George Carlin, Robert Klein, and Dennis Miller. In addition, the new half-hour series One Night Stand, featuring established and rising stand-up stars onstage, launches this August.

On November 5, 2005 George Carlin will return to HBO for his record 13th uncensored stand-up special and fifth live performance on the network. Presented live from the Beacon Theater in New York City, his first special since 2001 will be produced by Kimber Rickabaugh and directed by Rocco Urbisci.

Robert Klein, who headlined the very first HBO comedy special 30 years ago -- on Dec. 31, 1975 -- will be back for his eighth solo special, his first since 2000. Set to tape this October for December debut, the show will be produced by Robert Small.

One Night Stand, a series of ten half-hour stand-up performances, debuts Friday, August 19, 2005 (midnight-12:30 a.m. ET/PT), immediately following new editions of "Real Time with Bill Maher." Presenting up-and-coming comedy talent, as well as seasoned performers, in front of a live audience, the show will feature Kevin Brennan, Bill Burr, Louis CK, Omid Djalili, Earthquake, Flight of the Conchords, Bonnie McFarlane, Jim Norton, Patrice Oneal and Caroline Rhea.
