Shaki by Jacquelyne Love is now just Jacquelyne Love (seen here in her Spring 2005 Fashion Week show).

Love Expands Line

In less than two years since her launch, designer Jacquelyne Love is changing the company's name from Shakti to Jacquelyne Love, demonstrating a deeper connection to her roots. "I wanted to produce a line more reflective of me moving forward and growing with the line," says Love, whose husband is Rock & Roll hall of famer Mike Love, lead singer and co-author of The Beach Boys.

Love has rolled out a spring 2006 swimsuit line, featuring four to six pieces cut from Brazilian fabrics, some featuring hand crochet and jeweled embellishments. "My inspiration for the line came from the sensuous mystique of the Brazilian woman," Love says.

She's also stepping into the world of accessories with the debut of purses, bags and shoes also for spring 2006. Beachbags and clutches are among the purse styles, crafted from shantung silk and recycled straw from Italy. Brazilian stones, such as amethyst, agate, citrine and topaz, lend the accessories polish and glamour.

Brazil's landscape propelled her to move production of her line to Brazil, where Love is inspired by the sun-kissed shore of Ipanema and its exotic, skin-baring women as well as its rich repository of sources from gemstones to lush fabrics.

Another key move for the designer was naming Mickey Berkowitz, a former district manager for Liz Claiborne Inc.'s divisions of Sigred Olsen, Laundry by Shelli Segal and Elisabeth, as executive sales director of the line effective immediately. In this new position, he will oversee all sales growth and develop key markets for the line.
