Waking the Dead

Star Trevor Eve returns with new recruit, Tara FitzGerald

International Emmy-winning Waking the Dead is back with an all new season. BBC AMERICA’s Cold Case squad returns to revive long-dead cases with cutting-edge techniques. This season they investigate a bare-knuckle boxing ring, the skull of a 19th Century Sudanese ruler, a trail of gold ingots that leads to Opus Dei, and a Nazi ceremonial dagger — all to solve murders filed away for years. Waking the Dead, season six, premieres Monday, April 23, 9:00 p.m. ET/10:00 p.m. PT.

Chief Inspector Boyd (Trevor Eve, Troy) and his tight-knit team — psychological profiler Dr. Grace Foley (Sue Johnston, Clatterford) and Detectives Spencer Jordan (Wil Johnson, Cracker) and Stella (Félicité Du Jeu, Ultimate Force) — are joined this season by a new pathologist, Eve (Tara FitzGerald, Jane Eyre). She has an encyclopedic mind and a spiky, but healthy, relationship with her boss, Boyd.

The six, U.S. premiere, two-hour cases are:

* Wren Boys

Monday, April 23, 9:00 p.m. ET/10:00 p.m. PT.

When a teenage boy is found dead with a piece of his brother’s ear in his stomach, the team delves into the world of a gypsy family and some local nuns to get closer to a dark secret.

* Deus Ex Machina.

Monday, April 30, 9:00 p.m. ET/10:00 p.m. PT.

When a Sudanese politician goes on a hunger strike to protest the theft of an important artefact, the Cold Case team is called in to find it. While searching for the item, the skull of a 19th Century ruler, the team is asked to re-open the decades-old case of a murdered Iraqi refugee.

* The Fall.

Monday, May 7, 9:00 p.m. ET/10:00 p.m. PT.

This case begins when workmen find a mummified couple where a bank used to be. The team follows a trail of gold ingots through a massive web of relationships — clients, family, and lovers — but only after the tragic death of a Detective on the team and a revenge killing is the mystery finally revealed.

* Mask of Sanity.

Monday, May 14, 9:00 p.m. ET/10:00 p.m. PT.

When a victim’s family is contacted at the same time a serial killer is released into the community, the team is called in to investigate. But the tension mounts as another murder is committed, and they realize they have another case — and another murderer — on their hands.

* Double Bind.

Monday, May 21, 9:00 p.m. ET/10:00 p.m. PT.

A body unearthed from a garden is a student who disappeared in the ‘60s. At least one person knew the body was there — an escaped psychiatric patient who killed his parents. As the team investigates how the cases are linked, clues lead them to a commune and several LSD-addled individuals.

* Yahrzeit.

Monday, May 28, 9:00 p.m. ET/10:00 p.m. PT.

When Boyd receives an anonymous package containing a Nazi ceremonial dagger, it leads him to the cold case file of a young girl found stabbed to death on an East London street in May 1945. Boyd discovers that the last person to look in the file was his old colleague, Mel Silver, who died two weeks later.
