Punk Pioneers on DVD

The Stranglers

The Stranglers Live 1978 In San Francisco is available on DVD on May 31, 2005 through Music Video Distributors for $14.95. The Stranglers were among the predecessors of punk who began by playing the UK pub band scene. When the notion of punk manifested, The Stranglers were a perfect fit for the movement. Founded in Chiddingfold, England in 1974 by Hugh Cornwell (guits/vox, last on far right), Jean-Jacques Burnell (bass/vox, second from left), Dave Greenfield (keys, third from left) and Jet Black (drums, first on left), The Stranglers maintained an unmistakable stage presence by always dressing in black and producing a hard, dark, and intriguingly moody sound.

This is the classic 1978 line-up of the UK's best art punks captured live in San Francisco on their first US tour playing material from their first two albums.
