Sister Rose Thering

Nun's Passion: An American nun of the Dominican Order, 84-year-old Sister Rose Thering is an unlikely activist. She began to challenge institutionalized prejudice in the Catholic Church more than 50 years ago, beginning a lifelong struggle for hearts and minds that has extended from her hometown of Plain, Wisconsin, all the way to the highest ranks of the Vatican and to Hollywood.

Nominated for an Academy Award(r) this year in the Documentary Short Subject category, Sister Rose’s Passion is an inspiring portrait of a remarkable woman who challenged the doctrine that blamed the Jews for the death of Jesus, and took a leading role in Vatican II, which officially changed the Catholic Church's position on its relationship with the Jewish people. The Cinemax Reel Life documentary debuts Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at 7 p.m. on Cinemax.
