Zip-i-Dee-Do Da: ZipFizz

ZipFizz

Zip It Up

Forget the Red Bull – leave that to Britney and Demi. We tried Zipfizz, which offers less sugar and more nutritional value. You might want to tap into those memories of Kool-Aid, because you mix one tube of Zipfizz into your regular bottle of water. It’s high in vitamin B-12 (a vitamin women are at increased risk of being low in), high in antioxidants for immune support, replaces electrolytes with 30 times the potassium of a Gatorade, and is low-calorie without containing aspartame or artificial colors or flavors. Zipfizz gives a natural energy boost through nutritional science – incorporating ingredients such as vitamin B-12 and green tea leaf – that work together in balance for more alertness, focus, and clarity while supplying electrolytes, antioxidants and micronutrients. Most people say the energy they feel from Zipfizz lasts from two to six hours. Since Zipfizz energy comes from nutrients instead of high levels of sugar, there aren’t the spikes, jitters, and crashes that people complain about from other energy and sports drinks.

Zipfizz formula is created to balance 25 nutritional ingredients:

9 vitamins: Vitamins B3, B5, B6, B12, C, E and Folate.
8 minerals: Potassium, magnesium, calcium, zinc, selenium, manganese, chromium and sodium.
Electrolytes: Magnesium and potassium.
Amino Acids: Arginine and taurine.
Antioxidants: Green Tea Leaf extract, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Grape Seed extract, and Vitamins C and E.
The 4 G’s: Grape seed extract, Ginger, Green tea and Ginseng.

It’s sugar-free. The primary sweetener in Zipfizz is Xylitol, a natural element that is produced by the body and occurs in a variety of fruits and plants. Not only is Xylitol a great, natural sweetener, it is also known to be beneficial for oral health. Studies of Xylitol have shown a great reduction in new tooth decay, in addition to the slowing and even reversal of some existing decay. Xylitol has been used as an alternative to sugar since the 1960s. Zipfizz also contains a very small amount of sucralose, making up less than 2 percent of the total sweetener in Zipfizz. Sucralose is derived from sugar, but is not metabolized by the body and carries no calories. Zipfizz contains approximately one-fourth the caffeine found in a tall Starbucks® drip coffee. The caffeine in Zipfizz is naturally extracted from green tea leaf and guarana seed. Zipfizz gives a natural energy boost without the side effects normally associated with caffeine and sugar – that means no jitters, shakiness and no energy drop-off.

The first time, try it with 16-to-24 ounces of water, and then add more or less water according to your tastes. If using bottled water, be sure to first drink a sip out of the bottle to make room for the Zipfizz. Don't mix Zipfizz with carbonated drinks, as they tend to overflow. Posted by Hello

Here’s what BeansTalk was worried about since we have a bad reaction to B-12 (and asked about it, too): Vitamin B12 is part of the B complex of vitamins. B12 is essential to the body’s metabolism of fat and carbohydrates in addition to protein synthesis and calcium absorption. B12 also helps in DNA synthesis, the formation of red blood cells, and the maintenance of healthy nervous and cardiovascular systems. B12 is an essential part of the energy formula in Zipfizz. The combination of B12 and electrolytes in conjunction with the other ingredients is what gives Zipfizz its healthy energy boost. B12 is water soluble, meaning that any excess will wash right through your body just like Vitamin C. Deficiencies of B12, while uncommon, can lead to anemia, hair loss, confusion, nerve degeneration, dementia, depression and other conditions. B-12 has been found to be non-toxic, even in high doses. In fact, the amount of B-12 in one Zipfizz is equivalent to only about half the vitamin B-12 found in a B-12 injection administered by a physician, which is a treatment often reimbursed by health insurance.

The energy drink market has seen a 53% growth rate over 2003, selling $203 million in the U.S. in 2004. Sports drinks saw a 12.1% growth rate over 2003, selling $1.1 billion in the U.S. in 2004. Did you know that the bottled-water business is a $10 billion dollar business?

Zipfizz is available for purchase online at Zipfizz.com (www.zipfizz.com). It is currently available at Costco.com (www.costco.com). Zipfizz is also available to order by phone at 1-877-ZIP-FIZZ (877-947-3499) and can be found at select Costco stores in Alaska, Arizona, California, Idaho, Oregon, Nevada and Washington. (Berry Blast flavor is not available at Costco.) It is also available at over 400 convenience and grocery stores in the northwest, and counting.

Marlon Brando's Hideaway

Brando’s Dream Comes True: It was near where he filmed 'Mutiny on the Bounty,' and fell in love with his Tahitian co-star. Years later, it was Marlon Brando's retreat, where he would lie on the beach and marvel at the night sky. As he pondered his own twilight, Brando envisioned sharing his private atoll in French Polynesia. Less than a year after his death, Brando's vision could be nearer reality. An environmentally-sensitive 30-bungalow resort, to be called, 'The Brando,' is scheduled to open in 2008 on Tetiaroa, the island the actor bought in 1965. (Reuters Graphic)

New O.C. Episodes in May

Fox's "The O.C."

New Episodes of "The O.C." Four new episodes of The O.C. air in May on Fox, with guests Linda Lavin, Jaime King and Billy Campbell; the return of Jimmy Cooper (guest star Tate Donovan); a performance by T.I.; and an episode shot on location in Miami.

On Thursday, April 28, 2005 at 8 p.m., Sandy, Seth and Ryan travel to South Beach to visit The Nana (guest star Linda Lavin), who is living in Miami Beach, FL. While playing shuffleboard at the Nana's coastal-living retirement community, Seth and Ryan meet Mary-Sue (guest star Jaime King), who helps Seth get center stage on "Music Video Nation's" Spring Break 2005 television show hosted by Swerve (Bret Harrison) and Pixie (Krista Kalmus), star of "Sherman Oaks: The Real Valley." T.I. performs his hit single "Bring Em Out" in the episode. Meanwhile, on the Pacific Coast, Carter (guest star Billy Campbell) packs his bags and leaves Kirsten alone at "Newport Living," and Trey (Logan Marshall-Green) misinterprets Marissa's friendship.

The following week (Thursday, May 5, 2005 at 8 p.m.), the truth comes out. Since Carter's been gone, Kirsten has been drinking more than just tomato juice for breakfast, and when Sandy questions her, he's left alone in the bedroom. When Marissa acts nervous around Ryan, he wonders if something has happened between Marissa and Trey (Marshall-Green). Summer, tired of Seth and Zach acting foolish, confronts Reed (Marguerite Moreau) about the graphic novel and finds herself center stage at the "Atomic County" launch party. Meanwhile, Caleb shows Julie that a picture is worth a thousand words in "The Showdown" episode.

In "The O.Sea,” which airs Thursday, May 12, 2005 at 8 p.m. Sandy and Caleb confront Kirsten about her behavior. Ryan, looking for the truth about Trey (Marshall-Green) and Marissa, heads home to Chino. Meanwhile, Summer won't let her love triangle with Zach and Seth get in the way of her attending the prom, and Julie and Caleb toast to their final evening together as husband and wife.

In the second season finale, which airs Thursday, May 19, 2005 at 8 p.m., Sandy must make a life-changing decision to save his and Kirsten's marriage. Seth, Summer, Marissa and Ryan are caught in the crossfire at the Bait Shop, and Jimmy Cooper (Tate Donovan), worried about Marissa and his family, rushes home to Newport Beach.

Steam

Get Conditioned

"Caring for and treating summer parched hair is one of the most important things a person can do to maintain their own radiant beauty and personal well being," says Carla Gentile of the Steam hair salon, who created "The Steam Creamy Dreamy Protein Treat.”

The multi-step process includes:

1. A warm and relaxing shampoo to remove the dulling build-up from hair.

2. A good slathering of EC Mode Emergent-C Revitalizer, a conditioner enriched with super proteins, Vitamins E & C and special fresh dried nutrients.

3. Steam's special slathering technique includes an incredibly relaxing massage at their ergonomically designed and very comfortable shampoo bowl.

4. Under the hair dryer for five minutes as the conditioner's ingredients become activated by the heat and get to work on removing chlorine and other dulling agents. The heat-activated ingredients also work to induce shine and strengthen the hair.

5. The conditioner is rinsed and a healthy clear gloss is applied and combed through from root to end.

6. Back under the dryer. A refreshing Steam Lemonade is served with or without Hanger One Citron Vodka - your choice. 20 minutes will seal in the proteins and vitamins of the gloss.

7. The gloss is thoroughly rinsed and out the door with a towel-dried head of hair that now uses the sun for natural drying in order to ensure the long lasting benefits of the treatment.

The treatment costs $55.00.

Steam is a 2,200-square-foot salon designed by Keith Greco (he created the Little Door's atmosphere) and owned by Gentile. Its linen-tented ceiling, slipcovered mattresses--used as sofas--and intricately tiled color and shampoo areas are inspired by Turkish spas. "It's a very grounding place about truth, finding beauty from within and showing it on the outside," says Gentile. After hours, the salon often readings, yoga classes and dance instruction.

"The whole concept is about creativity and self-image," explains Gentile. "Doing different events helps inspire people to learn more about who they are." Clients--who include Third Eye Blind's Stephan Jenkins--also come in for cuts ($60-$100), color ($65 for a single process), highlights ($130-$170) or the signature four-step, 30-minute Steam treatment ($35): an essential-oil massage, followed by a gentle shampoo and a swish of protein-based conditioner, sealed in with a blast of steam. Think facial for the scalp. 314 N. Harper Ave., 323-966-0024. www.steam314.com

Kathy Ireland & Elizabeth Taylor Partner Up

Kathy Ireland

Ireland to Design Jewelry for Taylor

Kathy Ireland and Elizabeth Taylor are going into business together. House of Taylor Jewelry will partner with Kathy Ireland Worldwide, the design and marketing firm with more than one billion dollars in annual retail sales, to bring fashion and bridal collections to market. Ireland’s jewelry will range from less than $200 to $2500 and will be based on her “Style Guides.”

Ireland
will serve as keynote speaker at the JCK Jewelry Show, this June in Las Vegas. Her topic will communicate the power of strategic partnerships and the need for branding at retail. House of Taylor Jewelry will premiere at Luxury by JCK, continuing on at JCK Las Vegas and JA New York.

One of
Taylor’s greatest passions is jewelry, and she has amassed one of the world's foremost collections. By the time she was in her thirties, Elizabeth Taylor had already owned an outstanding set of Burmese rubies and diamonds from Cartier, a fantastic emerald and diamond suite from Bulgari and the 33.19-carat Krupp diamond, a gift from Richard Burton. That ring was later eclipsed by a subsequent gift from Burton, when he bought a staggering 69.42-carat pear shaped diamond. Newly named the Taylor-Burton Diamond, it catapulted Elizabeth Taylor into that rarefied pantheon of great jewelry collectors. The Taylor-Burton Diamond, purchased from Cartier in 1969 for $1,100,000, was originally fashioned from a 240.80-carat rough diamond cut by Harry Winston. For her 40th birthday, Richard Burton presented Elizabeth Taylor with the Taj Mahal Diamond that has a history dating back to 1627. In 1969 Burton purchased the La Peregrina Pearl, which was originally discovered in the Gulf of Panama in the early 1500s, an heirloom passed through Spanish and English royal families.

In February 2005, House of Taylor Jewelry/Elizabeth Taylor partnered with Jack and Monty Abramov of Mirabelle Luxury Concepts, in Los Angeles. The boutique consumer brand Mirabelle 18k and its subsidiary, Techline Jewelry Corporation, became House of Taylor Jewelry, which debuts to the jewelry trade at the major 2005 Las Vegas and New York summer jewelry shows. Mirabelle 18k introduced the consumer brand Mirabelle 18k to the trade with the “Original Diamond Handbag Collection” of miniature purse pendants, with diamonds and French enamel.

New Flagship Store in Nagoya, Japan

Coach opened a new flagship store in Nagoya, Japan which was followed by a concert in Tokyo. Mandy Moore flew to Japan and cut the blue ribbon to the 7061 square foot store. Later that week Moore headlined the "Coach Play for Peace" concert, a benefit for UNICEF attended by more than 7,500 fans. The band N.E.R.D. and Japanese pop artist Mika Nakashima were also on the bill. Sitting front row were Macauley Culkin, his girlfriend Mila Kunis (from "That '70's Show"), her co-star Wilmer Vilderama and Kelly Hu from "X-Men 2.” A short film by directors Steven Sebring and Toshi Ozawa played on a screen above the stage, and at the thousands of paper butterflies fluttered down from the ceiling onto the crowd. Coach donated more than $150,000 from the sale of "Scribble Collection" handbags in acknowledgement of the efforts of UNICEF. www.coach.com for more styles.
