You Lookin’ At Me??

AMC Celebrates Martin Scorsese’s Urban Classic “Taxi Driver’s” 30th Anniversary Sunday, November 18

Three decades ago, Martin Scorsese’s urban fable about a dangerous loner stunned moviegoers and thrilled critics. Today, Taxi Driver stands tall as a prescient classic, a movie that deftly captured its own era while foreshadowing the disconcerting world of today. To commemorate its 30th anniversary, AMC presents the network television premiere of the restored and digitally-mastered landmark film, approved by Scorsese, on Sunday, November 18, 2006 at 8 p.m. ET & PT / 7 p.m. CT. Nominated for three Academy Awards®, the film stars Robert De Niro, Cybill Shepherd, Jodie Foster and Albert Brooks.

Remastered “Taxi Driver” premieres Sunday, November 18, 2006 8 p.m. ET/PR 7 p.m. C

DeNiro’s Travis Bickle is alone, alienated and out to right what he sees as the sins of the City. By night, he drives a New York taxicab, frequents porn shops, and seeks a way – someway -- to make life livable. Everywhere he looks, he sees desolation, “scum,” hopelessness. Except for Betsy (Cybill Sheppard), a beautiful political aide, and Iris (Jodie Foster), a child prostitute in need of a savior. As Travis plunges deeper and deeper into despair, paranoia takes hold, leading him to plot a very public assassination. When his plan is thwarted, Travis decides to rescue Iris at any cost. A bloody confrontation ensues, resulting in an unexpected, even startling, conclusion. Thirty years down the road, Taxi Driver retains its standing as one of the most studied and revered films in Hollywood history. From the opening credits through to the disquieting finale, this is a movie that never misses a beat, and truly deserves its reputation as a “classic.”
