Cribbed from the great site www.foxymorons.com: Jane Turner (Kath) -- she's the blonde -- is one of Australia's most well-known and popular female comedians, renowned for her sublime comedic talents and characters such as Margaret Bland and more recently her role as Kath Day-Knight. She is known to most for her performances in Fast Forward, Big Girls Blouse and Something Stupid (the latter two featured her writing talents as well), as well as roles in Full Frontal and D-Generation. No matter where she appears she is bound to have you in stitches.

In 1987 she appeared as both a writer and actor on the sketch series D-Generation before moving on to the well-loved and widely acclaimed Fast Forward, where she worked as a writer and performer for its entirety - from 1989 to 1992. It was during this period on the comedy circuit that she met fellow comedian Glenn Robbins and a friendship was formed. From there she continued with sketch comedies and appeared in Full Frontal, however this was shortlived and only lasted the year of 1993. She then made the move into working on her own shows and co-wrote, co-produced and co-starred in Big Girls Blouse; the mid 90's sketch series created by her and fellow comedy queens and close friends Gina Riley and Magda Szubanski. Jane also made an appearance in the short-lived comedy series Bligh (1992) as the character 'Mad Lottie' in the episode entitled 'A Visit Royal.' Some of her notable TV appearances include interviews on Micallef Tonight, Enough Rope, The Panel and Rove Live - both as herself and alter ego 'Kath Day-Knight.'

Although Jane is best known for her comic work, she has performed in a number of theatre productions (The Rocky Horror Show, Popcorn & Man The Balloon), feature films (Thank God He Met Lizzie) and television dramas (Prisoner) over her many years of work which are testimony to her talent. She is also a special representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and travelled overseas in 2005 to help out as part of her ongoing role.

In real-life Jane is married to a lawyer named John Denton and has three children - Rupert, Nicholas and Anna. And of course she is also the creator, writer and executive producer for hit comedy Kath and Kim. She was born in Newcastle NSW (BeansTalk note: imdb.com gives her birthdate at 7 June 1967) and at the age of 7 her parents Avernal and Rosanne Turner moved her to Melbourne where they lived in the suburbs out at Mt Waverley. Jane went to Sacre Couer and went on to theatre school pretty much straight after finishing school, where she was classmates with Marg Downey. From there she went to Monash to do an arts degree and never finished the law degree. Jane also went to St Martin's Youth Theatre in South Yarra - where she met Gina Riley. It's halfway through her course that she met John, and from there the pair then lived overseas for a bit before Jane came back, got an agent and started off at D-Gen! As they say the rest is history!

Jane on the Show: "We recognise them so much. They're so Australian. Some of the ideas came from Sylvania Waters, bits came from a wedding series on Channel 9. Real people are out there saying these things, looking like this and being in these situations. It was this reality that we liked."

Jane on the show: "We thought it would be something like Big Girl's Blouse and Something Stupid; we never thought it would rate and become as big as it was. We knew we would be proud of it but we didn't think the public would take to it the way they did."

Jane on the show: "I would have to describe ['Kath and Kim'] as a bent 'Neighbours.' It's the next street down from Ramsay Street."

Jane on Kath's frizzy perm: "I do like putting on the wig. We always laugh when I put on my perm."

Jane on herself: "People always think there's a serious side to Jane Turner, but maybe there isnt? I shouldn't be so self deprecating. I should try and pretend Im really interesting."
