Lingerie Source: Jacalyn Bennett
While our associate editor was tending to other activities at the Showtime Emmy Gift House, we wandered over to the Jacalyn Bennett booth. Bennett started nearly 25 years ago doing private labels for other major brands, and, like Donna Karan before her, decided to launch her own brand and line. She had previously produced Frederick’s of Hollywood, among other recognizable brands. Bennett has more than 30 years experience in the apparel industry and won the Outstanding Alumni Award from the Fashion Institute of Technology
Laid out in the booth were some beautiful silk lingerie pieces, including richly colorful and elaborate corsets, bustiers, slips and camisoles. Pretty! Each of Bennett’s pieces are handmade.
Bennett’s design, technical and production staff work from her offices based in the USA, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong and China. All aspects of the production process including the construction specifications and quality standards during the cutting, sewing, finishing and packing process are monitored daily.
We loved looking at the lingerie, but our favorite thing was the beautiful vinyl-covered toile beach/tote bag we were given (and have carried to our staff/day job). The company’s information is cleverly embroidered onto a ribbon that runs along in the inside of the bag. There’s a great feature – a zippered pocket in which you can put things you want to keep dry while you put (in our case) your ice-filled thermos jug or your wet swimsuits (for the chairman of the board).
At any rate, check out the line. We’ve attached an image of icon Carly Simon wearing a Bennett design.
