The Real Best in Show

Live for the third year in a row, Animal Planet gives viewers front-row seats to the planet’s greatest dog show, the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship, where more than 150 breeds of the world’s most competitive and coiffed canines come together to vie for the coveted “Best in Show” title. This LIVE telecast event, which returns to the Long Beach Convention Center, airs Saturday and Sunday, December 2 and 3, at 8 p.m. (ET) and provides in-depth competition coverage and behind-the-scenes features about the owners, breeders, trainers and handlers. In addition, Animal Planet shares expert health and training tips and personal stories of some of finest dogs of their breeds, making this a dog show that’s more than just standards, points and judges. AKC/Eukanuba National Championship is hosted by Bob Goen and Leanza Cornett and is simulcast live on the Discovery Channel, as well.

BeansTalk loves Bassets and the photo above depicts a top example: The Bassett Hound possesses, in marked degree, those characteristics that equip it admirably to follow a trail over and through difficult terrain. It is a short-legged dog and heavier in bone (size considered) than any other breed of dog, and while its movement is deliberate, it is in no sense clumsy. Its temperament is mild, never sharp nor timid. It is capable of great endurance in the field and is extreme in its devotion.
