AMC Salutes George Clooney

AMC will air a Hollywood tribute to George Clooney, Tinseltown’s ultimate Renaissance man. In a relatively short time this multi Academy Award-winner has proven his talents as an actor, director, writer and producer. AMC pays homage to Clooney’s career when it presents George Clooney: An American Cinematheque Tribute. The World Premiere special airs Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at 8 p.m. ET & PT/7C. This telecast marks the fifth year that AMC is the exclusive broadcast presenter of this prestigious event.



Throughout the one-hour special, celebrity friends and colleagues share humorous personal stories about Clooney as they take viewers on a journey through his phenomenal career. The gala spotlights Clooney, one of the most admired and respected talents in the entertainment industry today, along with a troupe of celebrity pals including Julia Roberts (Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Twelve, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind) who presents him with the 2006 American Cinematheque Award, Ellen Barkin (Ocean’s Thirteen), Don Cheadle (Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Twelve, Out of Sight, Fail Safe), John Cusack (The Thin Red Line), Danny DeVito, Morgan Freeman, Salma Hayek (Spy Kids 3-D, From Dusk to Dawn); Bonnie Hunt, Richard Kind (Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Waiting for Woody), Julianna Margulies (“ER”), Carl Reiner (Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Twelve), and Noah Wyle (“ER”). Friends sending tributes via taped messages include: Matt Damon (Ocean’s Eleven, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Syriana), David Strathairn (Good Night and Good Luck), Renee Zellweger, and Catherine Zeta-Jones (Intolerable Cruelty, Ocean’s Twelve). The information in parentheses indicates projects each of these individuals worked on with George Clooney. In addition to the celebrity tributes and roasts, the jazz scene’s hottest new singer/composer, Peter Cincotti, performs before the star-filled audience. George Clooney: An American Cinematheque Tribute was taped at the Beverly Hilton Hotel before a live audience on October 13, 2006.

AMC will follow the award presentation with the network premiere of Clooney’s directorial debut, CONFESSIONS OF A DANGEROUS MIND, starring Sam Rockwell, Drew Barrymore and Dick Clark at 9 PM ET &PT/8C.

Academy Award winner George Clooney has gone from television actor to motion picture actor to producer, executive producer and director. He was honored with three Academy Award nominations, the first time in history an individual has garnered three Oscar nominations for two different films in the same year: as Best Director and for Best Original Screenplay for Good Night, and Good Luck and as Best Supporting Actor in Syriana. Clooney received the Stanley Kramer Award from the Producers Guild of America for Good Night, and Good Luck. The award honors films that demonstrate social justice. Coming up is Tony Gilroy’s MICHAEL CLAYTON, which co-stars Tom Wilkinson and Tilda Swinton, due out in 2007 and Steven Soderbergh’s OCEAN’S THIRTEEN, which is currently in production.

The American Cinematheque is a non-profit, viewer-supported organization dedicated exclusively to the public presentation of the Moving Picture in all its forms. The Cinematheque presents the best of film and video – ranging from the classics to the outer frontiers of the art form. Previous honorees have included a who’s who of the entertainment industry including Al Pacino, Steven Spielberg, Mel Gibson, Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Denzel Washington, Nicole Kidman and Steve Martin to name a few.
