Just south of the border, a new kind of inspiration is brewing among the community of artists that gathers to fuse their creativity and spirituality. It is here, in the tiny Mexican town of San Miguel de Allende, that a few virgins, saints and angels have banded together to create hand made pieces of divinity.

Three and a half years ago, designer Cheryl Finnegan gave up her life in San Francisco and her job at Levi Strauss to let her inspiration take hold. Her passion for such iconic females such as Eve, Frida Kahlo and the Virgin of Guadalupe led her to create a line of accessories celebrating the goddesses who encourage enlightenment, _expression, and creativity.

Ranging from belt buckles to rosaries, necklaces to key chains – pieces are handmade by an extended family of 32 craftsmen. In the spirit of these unique women – no two pieces are ever alike. VSA utilizes local resources: scraps from a nearby motorcycle leather supplier, hand blown glass, recycled beads and hand-painted medallions – all symbols of San Miguel’s passion and culture.

“It’s not about religion,” says Finnegan, “it’s about finding your own personal inspiration, whether it is art, love or anything that you find close to your heart.” And it was with that idea that VSA created a roster of spiritual goddesses, both religious and secular, in order to inspire every human being.

From the San Benito Collection, made from medallions from the Vatican to the Frida collection which showcases the many faces of a true artistic goddess – the VSA collection uses the symbols of culture and history to celebrate the women who inspire us all.
