Krall for the Holidays

Grammy winning singer/pianist Diana Krall will keep fans happy this holiday season with the release of her first ever Christmas album Christmas Songs, Featuring the Clayton/Hamilton Jazz Orchestra (Verve, November 1, 2005).

“It was just the most joyful experience I¹ve had,” Krall says of recording the album. “Yes, it¹s a Christmas album, but I wanted to make this record in a style that the great singers that I admire used to make. I approached this record like I would any other jazz record. It had to swing!²”

The album was recorded in a Hollywood studio this past summer, but that
didn¹t keep Krall and company out of the Christmas spirit: “We set up a
Christmas tree, candles and ornaments in the studio. It was all very joyful
with a lot of laughing. I felt like a little girl and this was my party!”

Christmas Songs, Featuring the Clayton/Hamilton Jazz Orchestra is a
collection of holiday standards featuring the talents of Grammy winner Tommy
LiPuma, who co-produced the album with Krall, and an all star cast of
musicians. The Clayton/Hamilton Jazz Orchestra plays on seven tracks, and
the great jazz composer Johnny Mandel lends a string arrangement to three
others. Two songs were recorded with smaller groups, featuring eminent
jazzmen John Clayton, Anthony Wilson, Jeff Hamilton, Bob Hurt and Stefon
Harris.
